I just read a rumor on screamscape that Journey To The Center of the Earth (same as @ Disney Seas) may be coming to Animal Kingdom with work starting mid 2005. I'm not sure that the story line is for the ride (is it different form the book?) but I'm not sure how it can be made to fit into an animal themed ride, heck even Expedition Everest is pushing it for an animal theme!

Maybe this would fit better in Magic Kingdom where 2000 Leagues was! Kind of the same idea and it sure would be a spark for this park.

According to The Disney Corner, Journey to the Center of the Earth (JCE) is slated to open in 2008-2009 not mid-2005. It is supposed to be located off of Camp Minnie-Mickey. Right now they have this listed as being only a rumour, with no other stage of development happening. We all know, of course, how many Disney plans never come into fruition. It's really quite a fascinating read to glance over their Disney Future section to see what may be in the works.

If you will reread the OP's post, they said work would START in 2005 not be completed by then. We all know how Disney takes its sweet time in building new rides.

Well, at this point it is still slated as a rumour so who really knows? I guess the point of my message was simply to share what I had read. I wasn't trying to nitpick the OP's post.

Tokyo's Journey is a wonderful ride, but what makes it shine is its inclusion in the incredible Mysterious Island. The atmosphere and theming is so excellent that by the time the ride starts you're completely psyched. I can't imagine this being recreated at WDW, but who knows.

You enter an elevator to take you down to the loading platform, which is deep in a massive cave. You enter/exit the same door of the lift so it must go down (unlike The Living Seas). Then you enter vehicles that (I believe) move on the same system as Test Track (or similar). There are very smooth and can accelerate extremely rapidly.

My only complaint was that the ride was a bit short, but then that's always a complaint I suppose when you enjoy a ride so much.

It can fit tenuously into an animal theme, especially mythical animals, but it's certainly not the animal-oriented per se - except for the lava monster!

Personally, I hope they don't build it. I'd like to see something original instead of bringing rides from parks I've already visited.

There was a thread on this rumor a while back, don't recall when, exactly, but about five or six years ago, the rumor was that it was going to be a replacement for Catastrophy Canyon at Disney MGM. And so the rumors swirl...........

That would be awesome! Tokyo Disney always gets the cool rides! :( LOL

Several buddies and I went to Tokyo a year ago, and my wife and I are going back in March. First, let me say the Tokyo Disney Sea is the best Disney park on the planet. The rides could NOT be more original, exciting, and WELL FUNDED. Journey and Mysterious Island are no exception. This is an A list ride as much as ANY ride can be. Stunning visual appeal, perfectly produced and timed sound, and a great thrill at the end, (though I always thought the monster at the end looks like one of the villians from Zelda: Wind Waker). I'm not too thrilled about it being copied and dumped in the middle of any park. I'm running out of reasons to go to any other Disney resort OTHER than Florida because, sooner or later, Florida will have everything that all the other parks have.

On a personal note, TheBellHop... my wife and I want you to be our best friend forever! A Disney fan AND an Animal Crossing player!
