We've always skipped this attraction, one of those, "I'm not sure why, but I've got bigger fish to fry" attractions. I know it's been refurbished. Can you enlighten me?
JIIw/F (Journey Into Imagination with Figment) is probably the most Magic Kingdom-like of Epcot's attractions, i.e. it's a family-friendly dark ride that is not really heavy on education like Spaceship Earth or Living with the Land.
It's short and not very elaborately themed, but it's nevertheless a fun ride, and there is virtually never a wait for it. It certainly is a lot better than Journey Into Your Imagination was. If anything, it makes for a good air-conditioned break
It's cute. The first revamp of the old Imagination ride without Figment (who was a major part of the old ride) was boring, dreary and not fun at all. The new version with Figment is much better (but I still miss the original). It is educational without looking educational and is worth seeing at least once.
If you have young kids, it's pretty good, but otherwise I think it's a big snore (Figment or no Figment.) Alot more could have been done with this concept. You just ride through a few static sets, with an occasional animatronic Figment that really doesn't do much of anything.
Of course, my daughter (5) wanted to ride it 4 times, so I guess it succeeds with its target audience.
Like you, we always skipped this attraction. We rode it for the first time this past Feb. It is very cute. We really liked it. In fact, we got right back on and rode it again.
We have been going to Epcot since it opened and spend a couple of months in Florida in the winter, so when we got home this time we looked at some videos that were taken of the original Journey into Imagination and could not believe the difference. We loved the original ride because there was so much to see and a lot going on, but thought the rehab was a big waste of time....lots of wasted space and not much use of 'imagination'! I could see why there were no lines waiting! Wish they had left it as it was originally...sometimes change is not that good!
We all loved the original ride and we were so excited when the second version was being refurbished to include Figment again. We rode it and DS just looked at me and said "boring". That was a lot kinder than the things I was thinking about it. Needless to say I did not like it but I'll keep on checking the little shop for new Figment things. However, I think that a young child would enjoy the ride and DS likely would have too when he was younger.
Is there still a segment where you are in complete darkness? We've never done this one but I seem to remember reading that there was a segment where you are in total darkness and it sounds like something is coming towards you. Just wondering if we should skip this one with our 6 mo. old since she doesn't seem to care for the dark. Any advice? TIA.
At one point, which only lasts about 30 seconds or so, you are in the dark and it sounds like a train is nearby. I remember this effect being alot more intense in the past- as though the train was coming right at you. Now it just seems like it's somewhere close- not threatening at all.
That ride is awesome! i've rode it since i was little and i still love it! im taking my little nephew in may to ride it for the first time, very good for kids especially when they used to guess "where figment would pop up next"!
