Her tummy problems are because she's lactose intolerance. Glad they figured out her problem, but it seems like it took a long time to diganose.

Hopefully, she'll be ok now and can stay home.

But it took them all this time to diagnose that Josie was lactose intolerant? What about the floating organs she has? Something isn't right.

my dh is lactose intolerant. It took them a long time to figure it out. While he was so sick and losing weight the Dr's told my MIL to fatten him up with milkshakes

I've never heard of a baby being "allergic" to Mom's milk. My SIL did have to eliminate all milk from her diet while she was nursing. Baby had a gassy tummy, not near what Josie has. She switched to soy for the duration. Her ds is now 9 and has no problem w/ milk.

My friend's baby was not just lactose intolerant, but seemed to have a milk allergy (one can kill you, one just makes you feel ill).

He had to have a special soy formula...

And of course things are not right... There are going to be a myriad of difficulties with that child, as there are with all micro-premies. They are just choosing not to tell everyone (which I totally understand)

My children are lactose intolerant and so am I. I nursed but had to watch that I did not eat or drink milk product, and the hidden fillers that are problems. Hotdogs, some generic medications, the ferious Iron pills I took needed to be switched, in the hospital we both were having blow outs and realized it was the brand of Iron they were giving me.

Mothers milk is the most digestable, if it is free of the diet of lactose, When they added the fillers to plump her up may have contributed, As I needed suppluments for the kids we had to go soy. Even the lactose free formula was not 100% lactose free.

They can't be pregnant already (of course they could be...) For heaven's sake they are going to have their hands very full with Josie for quite some time. It would be really horrible if she jumped right back on the train at the Gestation Station...........

I'm glad she's home, I hope she gets some peace and quiet to grow. I thought her problem was constipation, didn't they report recently she needed 6 enemas a day? Lactose intolerance usually means diarrhea.

Not always but I'm thinking she has more of a milk allergy than lactose intolerance since a milk allergy will cause problems passing stool. My kids couldn't go at all with out medications.

I know that micro-premies are likely to have myriad health problems, but many of them are not manifested until the child is older. Also, even if they do know of other problems, they may be choosing not to tell anyone until they know what these problems will mean for her and the family.

A milk intolerance, not to be confused with lactose intolerance, is very rare in babies but is actually an allergy to the protiens in milk. 2-3% of babies have a MPI. My DS is MPI and we are having him tested to see if he is allergic to soy as well since up to 25% of babies that can't handle milk protiens can't handle soy either. He is on very expensive formula. Lactose intolerance in babies is extremely extremely rare in babies.

It probably was People. I don't know if it was from the same article, but when asked if Michelle was pregnant she said something like, "It's possible. I don't know."

These micro-premies can throw you a curve faster than you can say Holy Smoke! She may be out of the hospital, but she won't be out of the woods for several months.

I think there is a lot of information that has been witheld from the public. Not that I blame them--they are under no obligation to spill their guts for the vultures to pick over. Personally, having worked with premies I believe there is probably some "condition" going on there. There are some GI problems which would cause the floating organs, floppy abdominal muscle, and severe constipation. I doubt that lactose intolerance is the whole story.

As far as Michelle being pregnant, I believe she probably is. I saw her interview where the interviewer asked her point-blank if she was pregnant and Michelle carefully side stepped, saying neither yes nor no. If she is pregnant they will probably face enormous criticism, so I can't blame her for trying to keep a secret that will protect her family. We'll all know soon enough. After having 19 babies, you know she'll be in maternity clothes at 3 weeks!

I hope for her own health that she isn't pregnant. God forbid something worse happen this time and endanger her life. She has 19 children and they need a mother.

My son is allergic to milk and also soy. They have some sort of similar protien that he cannot digest. It causes him to bleed internally. When I nursed I had to eliminate all soy and milk from my diet. Any milk I had pumped and stored before that had to be dumped and he was put on Nutramigen Formula for a few days while I pumped and dumped until it the DR was certain I wasnt consuming any milk or soy.
