Josie Brooklyn Duggar

I know I will get flamed for this since this is a "support thread"...:duck:but does anyone else wonder who is homeschooling all the kids right now since Mom is/was in the hospital and most likely visiting the little one? Mr. Duggar does not seem very involved in the nitty gritty care of the kids. Oh wait, it is the older kids...just like always...taking care of their parents responsibilites and raising their siblings. :sad2:

My mom was the youngest of 12 kids, and she told me her older sisters raised her. She was never really "close" to my grandmother, who was always busy (guess so! They lived on a farm, my mom never had any clothes from a store until she was 16 she said). That was why my mom didn't want a big family...

I also think it's funny when folks use the word "Christian" meaning "good". Now, I'm Christian, but I know that doesn't make me a good anything! It's just a belief. No other religion tosses that around like we do!

Sorry if I've offended anyone, but I happen to agree.

I also thought it was silly how she had the vow renewal on tv with a wedding dress - come on, I wore mine once, I'm never wearing a wedding dress again! It was such a "look at me" thing. I have heard of small vow renewals, but not a whole wedding done over again! I'd be embarrassed if my mom did that.

no judging here, what ever works for that family. I think they have a very loving family and I could never be as together, organized and on top of everything that Jim and Michelle are. The are amazing really. So who cares that those older siblings pitch in and help take care of each other. There is nothing wrong with teaching responisbility for others as well as yourself. Michelle does an amazing job with schooling teaching them to play violin/piano etc as well as school work. Most home schooled kids are ahead of the game anyway so they probably not only planned for this in some ways just not so early. And if they take their break now its not like that can't pick up again later.

There is a difference between teaching someone responsibility and making them into an indentured servant. These kids are not pitching in, they are doing it all!!! And I am not at all impressed with their so-called education. It is sorely lacking. They can all read and write, but none of them can think for themselves. They aren't taught literature outside the bible, or any real science at all. It is sad. Just because they are taught to play a musical instrument doesn't mean they are getting a good education. Five minutes of listening to any of the children speak tells me that they are trained NOT to think about things, but to accept what they are told without question.
It is just sad that a family would have to plan for mom haing so many babies she wears out and delivers one of them this early. What a thing to plan for!

I don't care what the Duggar's do as long as they support themselves and their children aren't harmed.

I'm not sure that teenage girls who are required to help with younger siblings are being harmed or are any worse off than teenage girls who spend all day texting or surfing the internet.

Different doesn't always mean wrong.

Lots of prayers for the baby. :goodvibes

But that is it they don't help they DO IT ALL! Helping is taking the kids to the playground, folding towels, watching the kids an evening a week. IF the older girls don't do it it doesn't get done. They do ALL the laundry ALL the cooking ALL the childcare. There is something very wrong with that. And when you work so long and so hard at home that you have absolutely no free time, no social life, no fun then yes they are being harmed and are not growing into well rounded, educated, independent, people.

Honestly people, some of these posts make it sound like you're rooting for the baby to die to teach the Duggars some kind of lesson.

I don't share their religious beliefs but they have the right to live their lives, and raise thier children how they want.

My thoughts are with the family and I wish them well.

This thread was started for Prayers for the Duggar Family and Baby Josie.

I'm sorry but those of you who are bashing Jim and Michelle, do you not have better things to do? Do you know them personally, so you are stating facts that you have witnessed,or are you basing it on what TLC is showing?

I think we can battle this all day long about what is right for one family isn't for another. I homeschool my children, I don't on Fridays...Its what we do. There are many kinds of schedules that people follow that works for their family, in schooling, working, daycare, whatever the case may be.

Why dont we get back to the prayers for Baby Josie.:littleangel:

I am praying for the baby, and I hope she does well. I base my opinion of them on only the things that I hear them say, or see them write.

It should bother us as a scoiety when we feel children are being mistreated, which is what I feel is happening with these kids. If we don't advocate for these kids then no one will. If feel very strongly that these kids are NOT being adequately cared for, and it bothers me that this family gets touted as such a "loving, caring family" when all evidence shows me that the kids are really nothing but glorified servants who have been brainwashed into submission. No child deserves to be subjected to that. We should all have the guts to stand up and say "that is wrong" when we truly believe that it it is. Our entire government and judicial system is based on this concept. These children have the rights too, not just their parents.

and you of course, as usual, know it all...and absolutely, these kids are being mistreated and brainwashed etc..because, after all, you know everything there is to know about this family because well, you saw it on TV!:sad2::confused3

I guess the bowling, wall climbing, trip to Washington, trip to NYC, paintball, horsebackriding, etc. wasn't fun at all. Funny how they even had the girl's friends on the show before since they have no social life.

I think your perspective is totally out of whack. I think the older Duggar girls are some of the most well spoken teenagers I have come across. And it's not like they have public speaking training or theatre training. Just regular girls.

It looks to me like a wonderful family to be growing up in.

Maybe some people from their church and homeschooling are helping out.

I see Jim Bob as very much a caring, involved father. And he unplugs toilets.

Glorified servants with cars. :rotfl::laughing:

I thought it was funny on last night's show when John David was at Josh's car lot at was trying to sell Jana's van "as seen on television".

In their book which I read it clearly talks and has a photo of Jana and John David's high school graduation.

Not just on TV. I take everything on TV with a gran of salt. I have read their blog, looked at their website, and even GASP!!! read some of the literature ther recommend on their philosophies. I still don't agree with it and don't think that it is the way children should be treated. Sorry, if you don't agree with me, but I have a right to my OPINION. So do you. And a right to voice said OPINION. I never claimed to know it all. Far from it, but I know a coached response when I see it, and that is all I have ever heard from these children when asked about the things that really matter. From everything I have seen and read, I have formed an OPINION about this family. They put themsevles on display for the world to see. They have to expect that not everyone would agree with their phiolosphies and way of life. Even that some would consider it boarderline abuse. You have your OPINION and it is also based on your experience. We both have a right to express our OPINIONS without being attacked and belittled. I am NOT being rude or argumentative. All I am diong is expressing my OPINION. Not agreeing with someone's opinion does not mean that I think any less of them or think that I am somehow superior. It just means that we see this particular issue differently, and that is ok. No value judgments made about the worth of the individual involved in the discussion. It is not meant as a personal attack on anyone here. Why can't we have a civilized discussion without the nastiness??

Just because they had a high school graduation doesn't mean they got an adequate edusction. I tutored college football players who graduated high school reading on a 3rd grade level. How does having a car have anything at all to do with the fact that they are doing the work of 5 Moms???

Hinting that a family is abusing or neglecting their children in not civilized.

The main reason your OPINION does not matter, right now.
Is because this post was started for prayers for their new baby girl.

It was NOT STARTED to bash them, to even discuss their parenting beliefs, it was started so people would know their littlest one was born, extremly premature, and needed all the prayers she could get.

End of discussion.
If you don't like them, this is NOT the post to voice your concerns.

their "friends" appear to me to be from families with the same phiolosophy as they have. I wonder if they would be allowed to have friends who wore pants and makeup???

How do you know they are doing the work of 5 Moms??

Having a car shows that they do have independence and that they are not "servants" as you classified them.

Hmm up here in Canada you have to meet certain requirements to obtain a HS diploma. Maybe it's not the same where you live. :thumbsup2
