Yippee!! More Reality TV to snark about!

Earlier this year the Duggar Family began filming for an ongoing weekly series titled 17 Kids and Counting, scheduled to debut on October 1, 2008. This series is being produced for Discovery Health by Figure 8 Films, the same company producing the Jon & Kate Plus Eight series.

A ratings war ... Gosselin vs. Duggar. I wonder who will win?

Could never watch a show on the Duggars. Kate occasionally irritates me. The Duggars constantly infuriate me. Would not be good for my health. I have a major problem with the "full quiver" movement. Where would our nation be if we ALL had as many kids as we were physically capable of having?

Oh, I have a big issue with the Quiver thing. And the no taxes because their house is a church thing. And the oldest raising the younger kids thing.

But I find their big round collar blouses and tater tot casserole hysterical.

I wonder how Figure8 will spin their lifestyle? Their earliest episodes on Discovery Health (no idea who produced them) are very different than the later ones. The later ones are more warm and fuzzy. Less Stepford.

I do think it will create some competition for JK8.

You know she is pregnant AGAIN! Mama Duggar that is. The oldest is getting married this fall. Is it really "only" 17? I thought the newest addition will make 19? Who knows. I think they are cute, in a sappy, Ma Ingalls kind of way.

I'm sorry if this was already posted here, as I did not go back and read any of the posts. But did you read the great reviews from two different people that went to hear the Gosselins Speak? You can read them at:

Its super cool to read how great they were, how the service was FREE, how not that many people have in the offering etc. and what the actualy definition of Love Offering was what they were getting to come there to speak. Loved reading this!

I think these links were cool, but didn't get the impression Jon and Kate were speaking for free. I would think the church absorbed the expenses instead of passing along the fee and per dium. Since the fees used to be clearly on the contact info of the old website, that's a little confusing to me. A love offering would never be mandantory. I'm glad they enjoyed the speaking engagement; come to think of it, I've never read anything negative by someone who has been!

Last week before Jon & Kate came on, did anyone see the show about the Heppener family? They have 16 children. As I was watching, I found myself comparing between them & the Gosselins:
*The Heppener family parents seemed really happy & loving to each other.
*The children made homemade taffy and played outside in play clothes, not worrying about getting dirty.
*There was no (none that I noticed) major arguing or putting others down.
*They seemed to be happy in jeans & T shirts, not worrying that they can't have a good time because "gotta keep their free clothes clean".
*There wasn't any "in your face" product placement.
*In no way did the Mom act like she was better than everyone.
*They talked WITH each other, not as Kate does as belittleing Jon.

I know they are not a perfect family, but it was on my mind and I thought I'd share.

Let me clarify that when I said free I meant that the people who went did not have to pay to get in. And regarding the other multiple families on TV, including the Duggars who now ALSO have their own weekly series. May people not turn on you and be as nasty to them as they were to the Gosselins. Who knows whats now going to come out of THAT closet.

Thanks for posting those links. Nice to finally hear people with positive experiences getting the word out! Interesting to read one of the bloggers mentioning how she tried nine times to get her post on GWOP and was denied; it wasn't until her 10th attempt when she "posed" as a hater, that they let her post.

I'm surprised they're doing a weekly show. Why? I don't know. The Duggars have seemed to do just fine with the yearly updates and occasional vacation or house show.

I didn't get the impression that they spoke for free, either.

No college fund, but the love offering went straight to Jon & Kate. They still take up a love offering, even after 3 seasons on TLC, a book advance, and 2 more books on the way. I wonder if maybe this is one of the last speaking engagements booked (that they kept) before the PR firm took over?

Are you talking about the Duggars? People not being nasty about them? Too late for that ... they've been the subject of message boards and blogs for a while now. This TV show will just bring it all back to light again.

But there's one thing about the Duggars. They seem to almost make fun of themselves, sometimes. People make fun of the tater tot casserole? They air a segment on their show about it. People also ask for the recipe, too. They mention that as well .. but, I think it's great that they can be laid back about it. Or at least appear to.

After last week's build up of tonight's episode, I was kinda dissappointed. Last week, they led us to believe "something big was going to happen" with Kate screaming in excitement, kissing Jon, jumping up & down all happy. Well, after seeing the show, I thought "Whoopty Doo", Jon asking Kate if she needed help with anything!!!!!!!!!!!!
The part about the kids seeing the play was pretty good. I wonder why next week's episode is a re-run? Is the season of new shows over?

So many people seem upset about the product placement, but it's not just on this show. DVR's have become very popular now and as a result fewer people are watching commercials. Advertisers need to find another way to get to the consumer and this is how they are doing it. I heard earlier that the show with the highest number of "product placement" spots is actually American Idol. Most of the time people don't even realize it's being done. I really noticed it on The Biggest Loser last year, it was even more obvious than on J&K.

Whoopty Doo?? She's been asking him for years to do that and he finally did, I would have had the same reaction as Kate!!

I can be Kate-like when I get overwhelmed and tired, but lucky for me my DH can see me start to melt down and he knows how to "handle" me and calm me down before I freak.

I thought the show was cute and they looked happy.

I have no idea - I only report what I read. LOLOL. It didn't make much sense to me, unless Oprah sees the $$$ value in a Duggar series, maybe?
