You know she is pregnant AGAIN! Mama Duggar that is. The oldest is getting married this fall. Is it really "only" 17? I thought the newest addition will make 19? Who knows. I think they are cute, in a sappy, Ma Ingalls kind of way.

I don't watch the Duggars. How do they support their family? What does the father do?

From what I understand (and it's limited, at best :lmao: ) about the Duggar family - Daddy (and Mama?) Duggar had a car dealership and land holdings before getting married. Apparently, they were lucrative investments. I don't know if they still own land, the car place, etc. now. Jim Bob Duggar was also a state representative for the state of Arkansas. He's always been self-made as best I can tell. They also claim some sort of religious exemption and don't pay taxes? They hold church in their home. Not sure if it's for their family exclusively or if others participate.

Of course, they have their earnings from site sponsors and TLC shows.

I know on one of the Duggar specials thy said that one other family attends their "church".

A DISer who lives in Arkansas posted on one of the Duggar threads that Jim Bob's father has money and that he was the one who gave Jim Bob the cash to start the businesses. If that's true, Jim Bob is not quite the self-made man he claims to be. I'm not saying he didn't work hard at these businesses, but being given money to buy your business would certainly put you a giant step ahead of people who had to scrimp and save for years just to be able to buy a small business.

I'm sorry if this was already posted here, as I did not go back and read any of the posts. But did you read the great reviews from two different people that went to hear the Gosselins Speak? You can read them at:

http://gosselinsdonotneedourpity.blogspot.com

http://theanti-gosselinswithoutpity.blogspot.com

Its super cool to read how great they were, how the service was FREE, how not that many people have in the offering etc. and what the actualy definition of Love Offering was what they were getting to come there to speak. Loved reading this!

The first blogger obviously thought the love offering was all that Jon and Kate received, but itsn't it more likely that the church paid them a speakers' fee in addition? :confused3
Okay as for the second blog, I wonder how Jon and Kate feel about all these "fan pages" with photos and videos of their kids. Just google gosselin fan page and people have posted videos set to music of each kid on youtube, there are fan pages on myspace, etc. and people saying they are obsessed with the Gosselin kids. I didn't check out the pages but I really hope none of them are cruel or creepy. :sad2: Last night I watched a rerun of the Utah ski trip show and Kate used black tape to cover the names on the kids' personalized backpacks, explaining that she was doing that because in the airport she didn't want any strangers to know the kids' names and be able to call them by name. Umm, okay? I think that ship has sailed. :confused3

I thought they'd said that, but I really wasn't sure. I haven't seen all the Duggar shows, especially some of the earlier ones where they speak about their "church". I'm sure, with this show coming to TLC, I'll have the chance to catch up on the reruns. :happytv:

Whoopty Doo?? She's been asking him for years to do that and he finally did, I would have had the same reaction as Kate!!

I can be Kate-like when I get overwhelmed and tired, but lucky for me my DH can see me start to melt down and he knows how to "handle" me and calm me down before I freak.

I thought the show was cute and they looked happy.

I agree, I actually thought her reaction to his offer of help was cute. They seemed very happy in this episode :) I'm glad the kids got their stuffed animals at the show. :)

Especially when people send the kids stuff, and Kate says to them how "neat" (or whatever word she used?) it is that people know what they like and don't know them.

I didn't know that - about the money. If that's true, that you're right ... not so self made. Now, if it was an inherited family business, that might be a different story.

At any rate, I've always understood that Jim Bob Duggar is pretty financially savvy.

I just went to the Duggers website and there is info on their son's wedding. They will redirect you to the couple's site. She is from Florida and also from a large family. How old are they? Is he 22?

I think if you watch or read about this family "scimping and saving" is their middle name! They 19 of them probably make about as big a carbon footprint as the average family of 4!

They saved up and built their house (from two kits put together) practically by hand. It took them like five years, and they finally did get some professional help at the end. Their previous rent house was small; with three or four sets of bunks in the bedrooms and only one or two bathrooms!

Wacky, maybe, but it is interesting to me. They went to a debt free seminar years ago, and have lived that way ever since.

I love how they embrace their corniness. They seem to know other people may not "get" them, but it works for them, and they live according to their values and beliefs. Anyway...back to those Gosselins.

Somebody thought that the theatre used all live animals in their productions! Can you imagine the elephants, lions, orangutans and gorillas on stage together? Funny. Those animatronics are really impressive from the pictures.

I posted something similar a page or two ago. There are many things that I don't agree with about the Duggars, but I do admire this particular trait about them. I also admired the fact that they were sparing with their TV shows, but I guess that's gone by the wayside.

I've got last night's JK8 taped. I'll watch later when DD gets home from school.

My kids are 10 & 14 now but when they were little I can remember the frustration I would feel with my husband. After a day of grocery shopping, mowing the grass, cleaning the pool, etc., I would try and do baths and dinner meanwhile the dryer is buzzing and the phone is ringing and the dog needs out all at once of course....and he was clueless. :lmao:
So I can understand Kate's excitement. But yeah I was expecting the Hawaii announcement or something along those lines.

Loved the show, that Noah's Ark production was really something.

My DD and I just finished watching last night's episode; we loved it!

First, Leah and Alexis in the interview chairs w/their stuffed animals -- too cute and too funny!:cutie: :lmao:

And I totally "get" Kate's excitement also. I swear, if my ex asked me that question more often, we'd probably still be married!

I also got the feeling, with the way Jon and Kate were talking at the end, that this was the season finale. Does anyone know?

Funny, I just made a thread on this! (in the community board)

He is 20, don't know how old she is

I think it is. The Hawaii episode is the season opener in a couple of months

Thank you kindly!:goodvibes

Does this mean they'll be no action on this thread until the new episodes air? Will I have to give 100% of my time and attention to my own family now?

I don't know why Kate is so set on Jon asking her "what she needs him to do" and making a big deal of excitement when he did ask her. As I recall watching many episodes, JON puts all the furniture & stuff together, he gives all the kids their bath, gets them dressed, taking boxes to the dumpster, taking care of the recyclables, and so on. She even said in one of the earlier episodes while giving one of the girls a bath, that giving the baths was not her "job". She acts like he does nothing!

She's the one that has all these helpers for laundry and the kids, and I doubt that she helps him with his "chores".

Well she kinda treats him like a servant. She kinda treats everyone like a servant. That doesn't make her the devil. Not my cup of tea, but I know a lot of women who are like that more or less. They just aren't on TV for everyone to scrutinize. :rotfl:
