Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

They warned us the risk of multiples during every meeting with my docs. We also had to sign a letter of consent that both my husband & I knew the risks of fertility meds & multiple births.
We had an appointment that is was explained to us that if there were a high number of multiples....3, 4, 5, 6 that it is very comman that a couple reduces the size of the pregnancy for the health of the Mom & the babies.

Yelp, I'm sure as the use of fertility drugs has increased the pages and pages of lawyer talk and CYA has increased but I never once heard a doctor say that 5, 6...was a real possibility. They basically said twins are pretty common, sometimes we see triplets...once in a blue moon quads. If I were dying to get pregnant I'm not sure that wouldn't go in one ear and out the other

I only mentioned it because I think one of the reasons people Kate bash is because she took fertility drugs...some people seem have a she knew she might have 6 babies so too bad about her attitude.

I think much of it has to do with the fact that many patients will follow the Dr's advice and have a reduction. However Jon and Kate refused because of their religious beliefs. I wonder if that is why many Dr won't even mention the possibility of larger numbers. They know they will recommend a reduction if there are more than 3 or 4, and assume their patients will agree.

ETA: not to mention the lies that have been said about Kate taking the fertility drugs. She was diagnosed with fertility problems, yet there are those who insist she only took the drugs because she didn't want to wait to get PG. I believe at least one person saying that is the blog that was linked to early on in this thread. The one where the blogger joined the DIS just rip Kate apart on the thread. Same person I suspect is the true identity of many of our more recent 1-2 post wonders.

Facts are facts, they are on t.v. to profit.......do I think they are exploiting their kids? 100% yes.

I look at it like this...they use organic foods whenever possible (I do that as well) so she can "keep her kids healthy", buying the 1/2 cow etc. I see and respect her keeping their bodies as healthy as possible BUT has she thought about their mental health? Emotional health?
Family vacations with cameras in their faces, I think one of the twins already has issues and I wonder how this "fame" is going to escalate her issues never mind what it is doing to the others. When the cuteness & newness of the entire situation wears off I hope the kids recover and don't become another "famous child" statistic.

I agree - facts are facts and I do believe they are doing this television show for profit. But it is your OPINION that they are exploiting their children. I believe they are in a unique situation and saw an opportunity to become involved in something which we secure their financial future. And what harm is it doing the children? They are just being themselves and living their life.

Like a pp mentioned, I wonder how many of us would turn down the opportunity to do the same? How is this any different from a parent whose child has an incredible singing voice and is then encouraged to audition for producers? I guess all the parents of any child in show business are horrible, abusive and exploitive.

I went to school with with one of the family relatives and the show is so far from true reality especially Kate. The show pays for practically everything they have. Jon being an IT doesn't make anywhere near enough to do what the show shows you and they have to add the little sections of Kate talking nice due to all of her mean and cruel words that half of don't make the airing of the show. Kate is all about the money and the fame.

This made me laugh. Do we stop or not? They use the front of their house in the show opening, and the kids play in the garage and driveway instead of the back yard.? I do think the kids need privacy, like when they are sick, tired, crying, using the bathroom, or need to talk to their parents. I guess when a popular show is based on the "reality" of your family, you have to take the sweet with the sour.

OK, so I work with a girl who has a three year old daughter, and the proud papa has had a camera in her face since she was born! He's completely enamored with his daughter and wants to capture every moment. We joke that daddy is a camera who can talk.

No, the camera isn't on 24/7, but neither are the cameras in the Gosselin house. Just think of it as really great home movies where no one has to be left out because they're filming.

Also, I don't think people are "protective" of the family, per se, but of their opinions and thoughts that are under fire when others post contrary opinions. I imagine it's the same way for non-supporters. I find it ridiculous that someone can possibly dislike that much that they don't even know.

I'm amazed how protective so many people are about this family.

Don't worry so much they are laughing all the way to the bank.

I'm not protective of the family, I don't know them, I only know what I see on TV. What I don't get is those that show such hatred for Kate or the show itself, yet they continue to watch. If it bothers someone so much why not stop watching....change the channel.

Me, I know I'm watching a heavily edited reality TV show. I take it for what it is worth. I think the kids are cute, I have had lots of 'aaaawwwwww how cute' moments watching this show. If they continue the show as the kids get much older will I keep watching .

I bet they are laughing all the way to the bank, I would be too.

Maybe I'm the only one willing to admit this...but I would totally do put my family on TV for three or four years to pay for the next 16 years.

In a year or two J & K can walk away from it all. In an interview I hear comedian Bill Murray say "don't wish to be rich and famous just wish to be rich." J & K can do both.

I completely identified with Kate when she said that while she was pregnant with the sextuplets she worried that she had ruined the twins lives...they would never have the opportunities other kids have. I felt the same way when I was pregnant with my twins. I knew I could afford two kids but three was going to be a stretch. I wanted my kids to be able to do t-ball and dance or whatever.

Kate has found a way to provided for 8 kids the way she and Jon were providing for two on the regular salaries.

BTW--was anyone else suprised to hear Jon yell at the kids when he was trying to back the van and trailor into the beach house on last week's show. WOW! Now, that was reality

I was just thinking the same thing. I had 3 kids, was a SAHM for a bit. My life was pretty interesting for a bit there! But in my house they would have seen the opposite: cranky mom(ok, crankier than Kate can be at times), messy house and lots of pre-packaged food hitting the table. I swear my middle kid lived on Stove Top stuffing for about 3 months. That's all she would eat at dinner so I made it every night.

But if someone would have offered me money to stick cameras in our faces, gave me freebies and sending us on trips and fixing my house, I'd be saying "where do I sign?"

I hear North Carolina mentioned as a possible relocation. Does anyone know what part of the state? I love the ride down through WVA, VA into NC. Beautiful areas.

I'm a tad envious of Americans in this area. So many options for having a totally different lifestyle and climate. Obviously, we have varying choices here. But not to your degree.

Kate has said over and over that she hates the cold. So that will be nice for her.

You're right, we are lucky to live where we live! Snowskiing in beautiful mountains in 1.5 hours and remote, pristine, beaches in 3.5. ssshhh! don't tell...we don't have traffic issues either.

Are the Gosselins really thinking of moving to Figure Eight? If so, why? It's a total resort area - there aren't any schools or year round families there, are there? Some of my friends and neighbors have vacation homes there and at Bald Head - I never hear of a year round population. Why would you isolate your family off the coast so that you would need a boat every time you went to the "mainland", even if you did feel that your family got a lot of attention in public? I would think it would be far better to find some place with a decent amount of land so they could fence and gate the property.

Oh, I thought they meant Figure Eight Island - it's a private resort community off the NC coast, just past Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach.

So where in NC are the Gosselins thinking of moving? Anyone know??

Since it has been said that the rumor is that they want to be near their production company, figure 8, **** I figured anyone would know it was the production company we were talking about.

I have no doubt that people have stopped and thought they could just approach the kids, call them by name and talk to them. I would FREAK if some stranger pulled up to my house, got out of the car, called my child by name and expected to be able to talk to my kids. Who knows what someone's intentions are?

While the sign is tacky I don't blame the parents for wanting to protect the children and apparently there was enough of a problem that it needed to be bluntly addressed. Some people just don't get subtlety.

Sending Gosselin's a GC to Toys R Us, is like sending shoes to Oprah. Just not necessary, imo. But to each their own.

Yeah I know right ....... but sometimes I do silly things that make me feel good .

When I see Oprah next week I will tell her that you feel as though she has to many shoes ( and no I am not kidding) . I was just telling her that I thought she needed her own Blaniks because she waers to toes out of mine. She needs to learn to walk I swear .

Good thing no one knows who I really am because then they could sell a story of my kindness to that rag mag the Star.
