Sending Gosselin's a GC to Toys R Us, is like sending shoes to Oprah. Just not necessary, imo. But to each their own.

And I did read that the Gosselin's spank their kids (they spoke about it at a speaking engagement), but TLC doesn't want to show it.

I was thinking the same thing! But I do think it was a nice gesture to show the Gosselins' they support what they are doing. After all of the crap they must see in the media, and all of the negative comments, it must be refreshing to them to get positive and encouraging notes.

So the Duggars are on right now...are J & K back on after that? I have TLC on Monday and Wednesday nights all night!

ITA...I know a lot of people who have had their teeth whitened, my sister/dentist has even lightened a dark spot on one of my teeth
It was actually a veneer she put on the tooth yrs eariler that had discolored.
So does that mean my friends and I are priviledged and "not real" anymore?

As for the other things (other than the hair implants and tummy tuck)....Seems like all normal stuff to me.

That's a really good point. While the majority of my life is spent either working or with my (TWO- only two!) kids and husband, if my life was edited for interesting 1/2 hour segments, people might think I was spoiled, or indulged. This past summer I had a massage, went to lunch/dinner several times with girlfriends, went on a few date nights with my hubby, laid out on a floatie in my pool, spent lots of hours reading in the hammock, etc. I also did countless hours of laundry, car pool, cooking, cleaning, hosting playdates, etc. It really does depend on how you look at it.

Do you all think that they would still be able to afford living in a brand new million dollar home if the show was cancelled and the crew left them to pay it on their own? (not starting an argument - I'm actually slightly concerned that this could happen)

Just like the Extreme Makeover house in Atlanta that went into foreclosure.... yep it could happen although I would think that Kate would be a bit smarter with money than those people were. :rolleyes1

Well, I'd imagine a tummy tuck may be a little more common among mothers of multiples. :rotfl:

I think it was very sweet gesture. If we only did what was necessary, how mundane would life be? :flower3:

Exactly my point! :thumbsup2 I'm sure I could make everyone think I'm self-indulgent, spoiled and rollin' in dough if I aired all my fortunate events back to back on a Wednesday night.

LOL...ITA
I do have a friend that had an elective one. Didn't cost her a lot of extra $$ because she had it done during her hysterectomy. She had to pay for the surgeon and the extra OR time. She had a lot of scarring from 3 C-sections and no matter how much weight she lost and how many crunches she did, she couldn't pull in her stomach muscles.
I actually have a similar problem on only the left side of my abdomen sue to scarring. However after seeing how horrible her recovery (and the one I'm about to post about) was there is no way.

The other person was someone who lost a lot of weight after gastric bypass. The surgery was a medical need. the extra skin and untoned muscles were pulling on her internal organs. However her recovery took months and she almost died from a staph infection.

I know someone who has had the hair plugs done, his don't look as good as Jon's do though. I also know someone who has had a tummy tuck and butt lift.

I myself, if I had money to burn would get as much, tucked, lifted, sucked out and reduced that I could. Would sure beat exercise and diet! And give me a day (heck a week) at a spa...that would be pure Bliss. (pun intended)

Could you just imagine that? OMG, how dare she physically abuse those children call child protective services, throw her in jail for life and on and on. The comments were be horrible.

Oooh! You just said the magic word!! I L:lovestrucVE Bliss!! I had my first Bliss facial a couple of years ago, and it was pure...well, bliss! I swear, my skin was glowing!! OK, edit my Bliss spa trip right before our WDW vacation, then add in my last trip to the mall. Leave out the day-to-day blahs, please.

My BFF with the triplets also had a tummy tuck. After having multiples I think it is very common.

OT, My mom had a breast enhancement by the same plastic surgeon that did Kate's tummy tuck. He is a fantastic Dr. and really caring.

Personally I could care less what TLC gives them, a house, car, whatever. They make a ton of money off this family. To build them a house would be no hardship for them.

I guess that is one big thing I don't understand. Why are people so upset with what they are getting either in money or other means of compensation. Of course the network isn't taking a loss on it. the Money comes from advertising.
Would those that keep complaining be happier if the network kept a larger percentage? Somehow i really doubt it. they would find something else to ***** about.

Sure, I know people who have had plastic surgery, for one thing or another, too. I also know people who save up and take fantastic vacations (ourselves included). I know people who have been to expensive spas, and go out to fancy dinners. However, in my middle class blue collar world (the world J&K used to live in) no one can afford to do them all, plus renew their vows in Hawaii and have a brand new million dollar house built.

I also don't know anyone with a nanny, or anyone who gets any (let alone all)of these things for free.

I couldn't care less if they do these things, or who pays for it. All I'm saying is that I used to be able to relate to them and now it's much harder.

Just because my sis-in-law had her breasts done does not mean that automatically make the Gosselins relatable for me. :confused3

Is there anyone on television that you could say you relate too?

JMO - but I think it's an unreasonable expectation to think you can relate to someone who appears regularly on tv. It may start out that way - and that's the "hook" to get you to watch. But I don't think anyone who appears in the spotlight is relatable these days.

I think I can relate to Kate because I am a Mom and a Wife. I get flustered with my husband when he is sidetracked playing with some gadget instead of paying attention to the kids (like Jon was the day in the garage). I get overwhelmed when everything seems to pile up on me at once and kids are pulling on me from all sides and I just want to scream (like on the plane to Utah). I feel like I am the only one who cares that my kitchen is clean (like Kate does when she talks about how she sweeps her kitchen 3 times a day).

Sure I don't have 8 kids - don't WANT 8 kids - but I do love the kids I do have and they bring me tons of joy along with the moments of exasperation and exhaustion. That alone makes the show enjoyable to me - to see another parent go through life and how they handle it.

No, I don't agree with the way they seem to profit from their family but on the flip side they seem to have found a balance between satisfying the public's curiousity and being able to provide for their family on their own terms. I have to admire the way they have done that. I think at times they have gone a bit overboard with that and greed has gotten the better of them but I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing if put in the same situation.

I think I can relate to Kate...

Haha!! OK, I was going to come post about this. I don't know if anyone reads the Disney for Families board, but I posted there about an issue with DS's teacher, and I get the feeling some people think I am "going Kate" about the whole situation. :lmao:

I totally agree with your posts. There is a definite change in the appeal and feel of the show. While I still enjoy and watch the show, I have found myself turning the channel in mid show. What was once family chaos is now TV drama, and I too am losing my interest in the show. Lately, my main interest is in Jon's hair plugs. I am curious to see how they grow in. ;)

I think they are smart to take advantage of the opportunities that have come their way, but for me, a viewer, those opportunities have put a damper on my interest.

Side note ~ While reading the previous posts, I read it is rumored they are having a mansion built. Being a neat freak myself, the first thing that came to my mind was ~ Oh the stress for Kate... can you imagine keeping a mansion clean with 8 children running through it. :rotfl:

:rotfl:

You better believe I'd turn down a new custom-built, fully-furnished house...I believe in working for what you have, and not taking handouts. ;)

 I'll believe that when I see it ;) Are they not working? Like I said, Figure 8 is profiting off the fact that they're in the families home several days a month. If the company is making money off of them, and is offering to compensate them for it in another way, why shouldn't they take it? It's just a rumor anyway. Either way, why do you care?!

I use to love the show, but now it's like watching a train wreck. Potty chairs (for 4 yr olds) being dumped in dunes...why didn't they pee in the dunes? Quit giving the kids all that juice and maybe they'll quit peeing so much.

Bibs, sippy cups and high chairs for 4 yr olds? Why do they need a bigger house? All the kids will end up in one room anyway; kids don't "spread out." I thought WDW and crayola were bad, but the beach trip took the (sugar-free, organic) cake.

They "love" horses but the kids say "00h"and won't get near them at the house they looked at. I love how bored Kate was in the bottom of the lighthouse reading about (imagine this) lighthouses. Just like the day out with Thomas, they really wanted to make this educational.

And don't forget "the sun sets everyday...let's move along." Does she not look at the episodes and see how neurotic she is? Jon is a Saint, and she seriously needs help (not a "family helper" to boss around, but medical help) or the kids are going to join the circus.

Just to defend the potties...DS3 tried to pee outside this past weekend, and he ended peeing onto the back of his shorts. I'd rather pull out a potty than change clothes, in her case possibly several times. We may start carrying one on long trips. Love those IKEA potties!!

I do agree about the sun comment. I rolled my eyes at that. Yes with the boys, I would have had them just pee without the pottie seats.

However I just don't get the the comments like "Jon is a saint, Kate needs medical help".

I like Jon, I'm certain he is a great guy, but he comes off as a big goofy kid. If he would act like an adult, Kate wouldn't have to have so much control over everything. Instead of sharing the responsibility of 8 kids with him, it is more like she is taking care of 9 kids. No I don't mean it is like that all the time, but it happens often IMHO.

Back to the sand dunes....all those guys were standing aroudn the jeep, but Jon had to be the one pressing the excelerator for the spring to be put on.
He needed to help with the kids

Jealousy

Where do you think the wild horses are peeing? I don't see anything wrong with letting the kids use the potty and then dumping it. They were nowhere near a bathroom, so their options were kind of limited. I think it was Alexis that needed to go first, it wasn't just the boys.

I agree with you on the bibs high chairs and sippy cups, but I think it goes with Kate's desire to have everyone neat and clean. What I don't get though, is they are her kids so why does it matter? If the kids don't complain about it, why should we.

The kids were Ewwing at the horse at the house because they were feeding it apples and they showed the horse with his mouth open and they were watching him chew. I don't think they were grossed out by the horse, but rather his eating habits. Guess they get that from Kate :rotfl:
As for the lighthouse, Jon took the twins to the top of something (I don't remember what it was) when they went to California. Kate stayed at the bottom there too because she was afraid of heights.

The sunset, again I agree. I could sit and watch sunrises/sunsets forever. Not everyone cares though. Sometimes I watch and hope that Jon will do what he wants instead of giving in. Reminded me of the Little People, Big World episode where the mother was watching the sunset and the kids were rushing her. She simply said, "you can go if you want, but I'm going to stay and watch for a little longer."
