Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

It's disgusting because no matter how many children you have, you don't need 8,000 square feet.

And to allow that to be built for you and your family (and furnished) free of charge is the epitome of greed, IMO.

But then, we are talking about Kate. Being modest isn't one of her virtues. :rotfl:

I don't really think it is fair to put all the "blame" on kate AND JON (he's there too remember?) because I hardly think they said "sure figure8, we'll move to NC IF you build us a ginormous house specifically to my liking." At the end of the day, TLC and figure8 are businesses and they both decided that this would be good for them (if rumors are true).

I find it a littler exaggerated that someone would be buying them a brand new home, but it doesn't really bother me. To be honest, if someone offered me a new home, I would have a hard time turning it down.

What you are not getting though, is that the only people that have said they are getting an 8,000 square ft. house are the people at GWoP.

If you haven't been there, I suggest you visit to see the love they have for Kate

I won't believe it until I see it of course. Just saying that even with the rumors, it isn't fair to put all the blame on kate and jon as if they demanded tlc build them a home, which is how it is sounding to me.

Oh yes I'm familiar with the love fest at GWoP!

There are a lot of things people don't need. You're on the Disney boards... do you need to go to Disney World? Of course not. I'm sure there are people out there who would say no one needs to spend a lot of money to go to a giant corporate theme park, and you're disgusting for doing so. The world just doesn't work that way. People work for and want different things... who are you to judge what people want/need? It's just a rumor that Jon and Kate are even having a house built for them, but they opened their lives and their home up to the world and Figure 8 is making a huge profit off of them. If they offered to build them a new home when they needed one anyway, what's so greedy about that? It's smart, if you ask me. These are companies and corporations we're talking about... they're looking out for themselves and their profit. If the rumors are even true, they're building the house for themselves; they know that doing so will bring them some sort of financial gain. These companies aren't stupid or threatened in any way by any demands Jon and Kate may have made... whatever Jon and Kate get is offered willingly and they'd be stupid not to take it. As much as people on here love to complain, I'd LOVE to see them turn down a new, custom-built, fully-furnished home that was being offered to them by a big company... I'm guessing that wouldn't happen

You better believe I'd turn down a new custom-built, fully-furnished house...I believe in working for what you have, and not taking handouts. ;)

If the rumor is true, it is payment for doing the show, it isn't a hand out.

Do you work? If so do you believe your paycheck is a hand out?
After all you wouldn't be able to pay for your car, home, WDW trips etc without it.
If you have a problem with them getting paid, I suggest you(or who ever is the bread winner in your family) stop accepting payment from your employer.

How is it any different than a TV show building a set(s) for a show. Also building a bigger house if the rumors are true it would probably be easier to film. And if TLC or Figure8 or whoever is building it they probably know what works for filming and what doesn't and they wouldn't have to through and redo things so that they can film.

There is another adult in the family that I am guessing has a say in how things are done in that family, it's not all Kate.

I think they are working. They are in a TV show. You do know all those actors/actresses in Hollywood get handouts all over the place don't you? They get paid to make an appearance at a party or bar because it is all advertising for those places when the photographers snap pictures and say "so and so, who attended a party at _____________"

I don't consider it a handout at all. (That is if the whole thing is even true)

I think the thing that is starting to bother me about the show is that it no longer seems real to me. It started off being about (what I felt to be) a very real family, with a very real marriage, dealing with real issues that anyone could identify with. While I do not have 8 kids, I related to their sturggles to raise their kids, spend quality time with each of them, juggle work, and pay the bills.

Now they are going to the spa, working out with personal trainers, getting hair plugs, getting their teeth whitened, have a paid nanny, ect. They go on outings every week where they get special tours, private trams, and wait in no lines. They just don't seem real to me anymore. This is no longer a look into an Amercian family's life, but rather a show about a family cashing in on their 15 minutes of fame.

The kids are adorable and there is always something cute and funny that happens in each episode. For now, that is enough to keep me tuning in but I'm not sure how much longer it will hold my attention. I don't begrudge them any of their due, but the show certainly has changed. I highly doubt that I am the only one losing interest.

We love the show in our house . My DD 22 got me started on it and my Dh watches it even at work . We sent gift cards to Toys-R-Us for them this sumer to buy some sumer toys . Do I think they have plenty ? sure I do . Do I think they hav to much ? that is up to thier parents not me .

DONT WATCH THE SHOW if you dont like it . Dont ruin it for other who do though .

Everyone tells me that Kate reminds them of me . I dont think so because I would spank the kids wen they are bad LOL ok now attack me cause I spanked my kids. They both are fine, normal, one is going to be a police officer and may spank his own kids ;)

I'm curious. Did you get some sort of response from them? I heard they really do answer all e-mails and such, did they send you a thank you?

I doubt these things are happening every week. They may be airing every week, but that's the magic of television. At 7:00 the kiddos can be running around in diapers, and two hours later then can be fully potty trained.

Also, I think the show would get boring if they didn't add these extra outings, events, etc. I think they're still relatable. We go see Thomas, to WDW, the zoos, etc., etc. We go shopping, have childless dinners, etc. I think a lot of us do have these things, they just aren't broadcast back to back, which can make it seem like they're spoiling themselves. We may not get the backstage meet and greets and other things, but it doesn't make it any less relatable for me.

Yes we did and I have emailed Kate several times before and as far as I can tell she respondes herself. Is it really her I believe so : )

We did get a Thank You Card , Kate loves Disney ( I am sure you all have caught her Pooh tattoo on her leg. I signed an email " Your sister in OCD" and when she responded she signed it the same way LOL

Wow. That's really cool. Maybe they aren't the devil's spawn after all ;)

ITA...I know a lot of people who have had their teeth whitened, my sister/dentist has even lightened a dark spot on one of my teeth
It was actually a veneer she put on the tooth yrs eariler that had discolored.
So does that mean my friends and I are priviledged and "not real" anymore?

As for the other things (other than the hair implants and tummy tuck)....Seems like all normal stuff to me.

I heart JK plus 8! I think I am just as neurotic as Kate and its one of my best qualities! LOL- I need something to make me stand out!
John reminds me of my DH as well!

Sending Gosselin's a GC to Toys R Us, is like sending shoes to Oprah. Just not necessary, imo. But to each their own.

And I did read that the Gosselin's spank their kids (they spoke about it at a speaking engagement), but TLC doesn't want to show it.
