Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

Also, I noticed something else after watching last night and just wondering if anyone else has. It seemed like Kate was a bit more down to earth and humble before she got her tummy tuck. She seemed content to let John talk more and not correct him as much. But I also felt bad for her when he was talking about her body and how her belly looked. She definitelty has alot more self esteem and confidence now then she did back then.

I don't think it's the tummy-tuck that changed her. I just think she's been parenting 8 kids for four years now; I think gaining that experience has made her more confident and determined in how she does things. You can tell in those earlier shows, they had the "new parent" glossed-over look; now they really know what they're doing and what works for their family.

Perhaps in the specials and first few episodes they were still self-censoring a bit for the cameras too. It's been a few years now, and I'd imagine they're more open and honest in front of the cameras then they were in the beginning. I know it would take me a while to warm up. They have a regular crew now that they see on a daily basis, so I bet they're more likely to talk to them like friends would, rather than being acutely aware that every word was being recorded. Plus, in the beginning, the focus of those shows was more about the overview of life with the kiddos. Now the show is in the down and dirty day to day stuff, so it's catching (and airing) more of the stresses and conflicts that they deal with all the time.

Good point!:thumbsup2

That was my thought - that Kate was trying to look good for the cameras and holding her tongue a bit more. As she grew more comfortable with the cameras then she let her guard down a bit.

I did think that Jon was a bit cruel talking about her tummy and hair though. Let him give birth to sextuplets and see how he looks. :duck:

Regarding the "eating organic" comments. I watched the specials last night and what I heard her say when she was preparing her 15 meal marathon before the tummy tuck surgery was that they felt they were giving the kids a gift that they would never even know about, and tried to "buy organic as much as we can afford to". Don't knock them for trying...every little bit helps. Surely everytime you feed your family an apple without pesticides or meat that hasn't been injected with antibiotics and steroids, you've made a better choice than feeding them the other stuff.

I love this show!! They both seem so great with the kids. Even when things are tense and crazy, they are all so normal!

ITA!!!! I just watched that 1st year special again last night and I can stop thinking about how Jon said he "prefers blondes" and he "wished he had a paper cutter" for Kate's belly! :confused3 I totally had forgotten about that recently because Jon always seems like a sweetie!

LOL...several yrs ago I had someone make a snarky remark about DD eating a "lunchable" at a playgroup park day. At the time we were pretty strict about her diet because we had just found her sensitivity to artificial additives in food. Little did the person realize that the "lunchable" was an organic one from applegate farms. I would guess that we buy about 5%0 organic but we buy almost everything 100% natural/min processed and avoid things such as high fructose corn syrup.

Here is the summary for tonight's episode:

Jon & Kate Plus 8 : "Boys' Day Out"
Jon spends the day with the boys at the golf course while Kate and the girls go grocery shopping together

Should be a good episode.

I thought tonight's episode was just kinda ho hum. Anyone else?

I really liked it. I think I laughed more during this episode than I have during the past 4-5 episodes

I need to look around and see if I can find the recipe for the Monkey Munch. (Or whatever it is!) I think my kids would LOVE that.

Me, I am looking forward to the episode where Kate takes all 5 girls out by herself. That'll be interesting. I thought it was a hoot when Jon said to one of the boys when they were whining about being dirty: something to the effect of you need to man up and stop being so girly. :lmao:

I understand why it's normally a huge deal to take 8 kids to the grocery store..but to take 3 isn't that big of a deal. Not sure why Kate was huffing and puffing so much about it. I do it daily. Me, I would have left the powdered sugar off the Monkey Munch, myself. Peanut butter, yeah, I would make a trip for..powdered sugar? No way.

I think it was on TLC tv guide that says that Kate takes the 5 girls to a pottery painting place, while Jon takes the boys to the gym with him. Though I think Yahoo TV guide says that next week its Gosselin movie night. Not sure which one is right. I think both sound like they would be good episodes.

.

I caught that too. He said something about their mother warping their brains against dirt or something. I like Kate, but oh my goodness she is a little obsessive about dirt!

The pottery episode airs Sunday night and the movie episode airs next Monday night.

For the record...I like Kate. The only episode I thought she was absolutely horrible in was the gum episode. I watched it this morning. I hadn't seen it before. I did think she had gone too far throwing away the poor boys bear over gum. She was not at all sympathic when he said something like "bear is my buddy." Being type-A myself, I get like this--but that is when my husbands steps in and says something like...I'll freeze the d*mn gum off the bear while you pack for the trip.

I think Kate has changed a little too...or relaxed more I guess. I also think that the editing may be working harder at making her look type-A to keep the show more interesting. It is harder to keep interest up for a weekly show.

Also, my DD love Madie and Cara (I think she secretly wants to be a twins like her brothers) so she loves to watch...we had to make monkey munch today. It is the chex mix--muddy buddies recipe. I reduced the powdered sugar, added nuts and increased the vanilla. Very good.

BTW, she didn't actually throw away the bear. She did throw away a pair of socks.

I don't know what is in the Monkey Munch, but I think I might like to try it. I don't think Kate's recipe had vanilla in it.

When kate was reading over the ingredients, I'm pretty certain she said vanilla. I jsut don't think they showed her adding it

I think the powdered sugar is what dries out the peanut butter and wet ingredients so you can actually pick it up in your hands.

I was glad to see that side of Kate. She promised the girls something and she made sure she followed through so as not to let them down. :thumbsup2
I loved the little girls all wanting to lick the "blue thing." I remember another episode where Mady got to lick the beater and she said she was glad Cara was at a friends house because she didn't have to share. It must be rough in that house to get the beater.

I thought it was a good episode.
