Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 8

I think this mother is smart enough not to give up her career to exploit her family on tv. I thought when they interviewed her they don't even tape once a week. Her and her husband are both educated with good paying jobs, they can support their kids without the kids having to work. Is she a bad mother because she worked hard for her career and schooling and wants to be in the work place?? Don't forget Jon & Kate started out begging for money to support their family. All the good will collections at church, neighbors chipping in to pay the electric bill, all the free babysitting, etc.......This family has grandparents to help and thats great. I don't think you can tell from one episode the whole story behind this family!:happytv:

I don't know. I'm starting to think reality tv is cursed or something. So many couple's marriages crumble and I highly doubt that this family will be immune just because they appear to have it together. Remember how happy J&K seemed at first? Maybe they'll be the exception but the odds aren't too fabulous if you ask me. Being on reality tv ranks right up there with vow renewals and having another baby to save the relationship. Sheesh, I sound cynical don't I? It's just strange that reality tv seems to bring out the marriage problems. It must be the stress of filming or pretending to be something you're not.:confused3

Actually, I was prob wrong and maybe she is working towards staying home with the kids. Here is part of an interview:

'Bryan's grandma and a couple from her church, who have six kids, also come three days a week to do our laundry and play with the kids. That's a huge help. And when I work nights in the emergency room and come home in the early morning, Bryan gets the kids up and ready to go and watches them so I can sleep. But I'm praying for creative ways so I don't have to work outside the home. I'd much rather be with my children.'

Hmm, might that be by having them on TV?

She mentions they don't have regular help, but then says her mil comes once a week to watch five of them, while they do a one on one with a child, plus his grandmother and friends come 3 days a week, plus her mom helps, so it sounds to me like she has regular help. Plus she hired a sitter on one of the five part series when it was on...although we didn't see her as a regular babysitter.

This sounds so very familiar. And for those that think Kate's kids have meltdowns, you really need to watch this show.

This couple already is getting help, in hopes having 6 kids and being so busy/stressed (or whatever) doesn't hurt their marriage.

They started out with an interview on TV, then a special, then the five part series. I don't know how many they are doing this year. In another article she says they taped 5 days a month. They must have been very long days, to get all the material they showed us, since each show was supposed to be over a few days :confused3.

Maybe Mrs. Masches can get on DWTS and make enough money to stay home for a few years!
Remember just like J & K, these shows are all scripted. They just show you what they want you to see. I'm sure this mother could not compete with Kate and her "paid" staff. What happened to all of the Gosselin's family and friends?? How many episodes has this family taped compared to the Gosselin kids?? No comparison!

TLC is getting ridiculous. They seem to be treating these people like circus side shows...multiple children, little people big world, little chocolatiers, multiple children, multiple children, children with physical issues (like mermaid girl, rapidly aging child, etc.) hoarders, one big happy family and toddlers and tiaras. I wonder how they come up with ideas for shows like these? And isn't there a new family of quintuplets on TLC now? I saw a commercial for it and the dad was complaining about having so many kids, he misses his wife and said that people say children are blessing, ya right. His words, not mine.

Now my only exception is that I love Cake Boss! Weren't we all laughing over that a while back and saying we were going to do the drinking game for every time he said modeling chocolate:laughing:

It's definatley freaks on parade. They are sooooo exploiting the little people. OK, one show with a family of little people, and you would say it's good- as it shows they are like anyone else. But 4 shows? That is exploitation, circus side show gawking, exploiting their disablilty. I can't believe these people allow it to happen to them. Sad, I thought the days of this type of expoitation were over at the turn of the century.

I agree that most shows on TLC are a mess, I do enjoy Cake Boss and The Little Couple. Those people seem to have a brain in their head and aren't out for money and fame. I like how Jen on The Little Couple shows that just because she has a disability doesn't mean she can't be a top notch person in her field. I admire her.

Also remember..they are just starting. They started with a special, an interview, and depending on where you read it it, 5 or 6 sho (with placements of course). I have no idea how many they are doing this season. But does it matter how many shows, if the idea is to not show the kids on TV? Why would it be OK for this family..is it because it's less shows? Is it because the mom works outside of the home? So, it's not how they treat their husbands, or that their kids are on TV? Is it really objectionable just because some don't like Kate, and it's not really about the kids on tv?

People complained because Kate said she did it all herself. This mom says they don't have regular help. Uh, so far we know about 4 days of help (plus they try to have date night with a sitter, although that seemed to pretty much go down the drain), plus the sitter she hired. Or is it ok, because it's family and not volunteers?

I do have another quesiton. If the thing people don't like, is that the kids are on tv, why isn't anyone up in arms about this show? We've seen these kids in the bathtub without clothes, having hissy fits, hitting each other, just like the Gosselins.

Since I was not familiar with the show that has been discussed upthread, I decided to go and watch the re-cap bits on wetv.com. Although they are only small pieces of their episodes, I get a sense of how the family interacts and can honestly say that while there are similarities to J&K, I think that Bryan and Jenny are years ahead in their maturity. They don't have any problem talking about how much work is involved and how grateful they are for the help they have. Let's wait a couple of years before we start really comparing them to J&K. I'll be curious to see if Bryan and Jenny will have alienated their children from every single family member, and of course only time will tell if either of them would prefer to be a celebrity in the media circus that Kate seems to long for.

I went to Carlo's bakery last year when the show was first airing. This was when there was when the paps were constantly stalking Jon and Kate. I said something to her about now you guys have to be careful so they don't end up like them. And she said there are so many of them that they keep each other grounded. I had the bakery to myself then. I went back a few months later and it was a madhouse!

Deleted, because it just doesn't matter. For those who think it's about the kids being on TV, you will object to this show IMO. For those who just hate Kate, you will like this mom, love seeing the kids on TV, and have no objections when she says how much work it is having these kids, and not think her snips at her husband are very similar or bad.

ITA! This family has taped several episodes and our "Kate Lovers" are already dissing the family, but they don't like it when years of Gosselin family exploitation is pointed out. Are the Gosselin's the only family allowed to showcase their kids?? Kate has come forward and said it gives them the opportunity to travel and do things that they couldn't afford. So the Masches have careers and the Mom would like to stay home just as I'm sure any normal Mom would want to with her children. The problem with Kate is she isn't home 90% of the time. She is off crying poor in interviews or making a fool of herself on DWTS! The Masches seem more like a family the average person can relate to rather than the Gosselin's who shove it down our throats thanks to their fame loving mother. These other families are competition for the Gosselin's and Kate wants the stardom.
I'm going to wait and see if the paps start following the Masches, they start going on free trips and vacations like the G's and if they cut off all ties with their family and friends and eventually divorce. Anyone notice if they have security yet?? :rolleyes1

I haven't watched much of it. I did go on you tube last night. Really didn't have much. With what I saw, I really don't care for her. As much as I really don't care for Kate, I would much rather watch her. Her hubby does seem like he really doesn't like having this many kids.

As far as the melt downs. big difference, these kids are 2. Kates are still melting down at 9 and 6. And for what it is worth, no I don't think she should have her kids on TV. They have a way to support those kids. NOt that Kate and Jon don't. I just think it is too late for them to be a normal family, This family still has time and I am sure they are following in Jon and Kate footsteps and want the attention. Something about the mom just rubs me the wrong way. I think because I saw an earlier interview, when the show first started and she sounded like she was trying to be Kate. Like she was trying to copy her and be her.

I like the Little Couple too. I think Jen is very smart and has a very successful career. They don't flaunt the trips they take and they usually always have a reason for traveling to that particular place such as a wedding, dr. appointment, visit family, etc.......:flower3:

ITA! This family has taped several episodes and our "Kate Lovers" are already dissing the family,

Actually, for me, I'm just more confused as what it is people want. I thought they said they didn't want the kids on TV and their private times shown. Now I'm begining to see it really is just about Kate, and not kids on TV.
As for 'dissing the family', (and I really didn't mean to dis them, I thought I was saying what they have shown so far on the series) I'm really trying to figure out why people would say it's ok for this family to have the kids and the private moments and the meltdowns on (and only time will tell if these kids will still have meltdowns when they are 6) but not Kate and Jon. I think both families are pretty much the same, (at least like K & J were in the begining..this family is in the begining yet) so if you think Kate and Jon are exploiting, I'm confused as to why you wouldn't think this family is. I'm not saying either is, but I don't see much difference, so if you do think J & K are..well, why not this family? I don't like the private moments shown on either show (and the one with the grandfater giving baths were pretty private as they climbed out of the tub), and I don't like the disrespect any of these parents show their partner. So, is it only exploiting if the press starts following you :confused3?
And personally, in my life, I'd rather be a lover of someone than a hater. I don't hate either Kate or this mom, and I didn't say this new show was exploiting, but Kate isn't. However, I am confused as to why this show, which is very similar is OK in some people's books.

OK Mousey, are you sitting down? I agree with you. Plus, these are adults, so it's their choice to be on.

I like the Little Couple too. I think Jen is very smart and has a very successful career. They don't flaunt the trips they take and they usually always have a reason for traveling to that particular place such as a wedding, dr. appointment, visit family, etc.......:flower3:

Apparently the Gosselin's are the only family not allowed.

And when I see things like Kate is gone 90% of the time, well, I just don't think exageration helps anyone's case. She is gone a lot, I agree, but some of that time Jon is with the kids, so I'm glad for that. I'd like to see her be home more, but I don't think that is going to change, unless her twisted show is a failure (which IMO it will be, but I haven't actually seen it yet, so maybe I'm wrong).

This is more like a normal family? It's still a TV family, just like K & J, edited. I would have thought since they seem so smart, they would have had a contract that agreed to be careful with what they show. Maybe they are smarter this season. Remember, this is only their second season, and they have been lucky enough to be able to afford help and have family near. I wonder what it will be like this season, now that they have moved away from family..or at least that is what the teasers have said.

What I doidn't like to see last year, is someone has started a Raising Sexutplets Without Pity site (but they didn't have a comment section, at least not last year, so that is good..it was more a comment on each show)..I hope it dies out, and the person who started it, doesn't realize the show is back.

Maybe it's because the other family is moving away, that prompted them to do the TV show. Everyone here would have to admit that having all those extra people around to keep an eye on all the kids is one bonus plus the extra money that comes along with it.

As I said before, let's give it some time before we connect the dots between Bryan and Jenny to J&K. It did take a couple of seasons before J&K became so outrageous with their behavior. But that's JMHO, I would rather be the type of person who gives this new show/couple the benefit of the doubt rather than make assumptions.

I'm not saying its ok for the Masches to put themselves on tv. After what happened to the Gosselin's they either were offered some $$$ or they didn't learn anything from the past and want to follow in the footsteps. I would love for someone to pay for my family to go to Disneyworld, but I wouldn't love being taped the entire time for the whole world to see. Kate comes across like she is some big talent and really the only thing she did was have 2 sets of multiples. Since DWTS I have read even more negativity about Kate and how people wish she would just disappear, etc........The show was cute in the beginning even though stuff was shown that looking back was not appropriate. However, they aren't babies anymore and not that I'm saying they should be better behaved, their are times that their behavior is embarassing for their age. The two older girls are just thrown in the mix but even they have outgrown their tv cuteness.
Life changes, family dynamics change and I think TLC is pulling things out of the hat that will catch viewers eyes regardless of who it exploits.

OK Mousey, are you sitting down? I agree with you. Plus, these are adults, so it's their choice to be on.

Gee, I'm honored! This has to be the first time ever. I'm anxious to see how this show changes when they throw a baby in the mix!:cloud9:

Hey LoraJ:wave2: Nice to see you here again!

I'd love to stop by Carlo's bakery too but I don't know if I could handle all the yelling...Buuuudddddyyyyy! They should change the bakery's name to that! They do look like a huge, loud and fun family. And I'm sure she was right, there are a lot of them to keep the others egos in check. Did you eat anything from there? Everything looks delish.:goodvibes
