Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread--Part 7

True. But LPBW has been on the air longer than J&K.
Maybe it's just me, but I think TLC is showing the worse fo Matt this season. With K & J gone, I am suspicious about how this will be shown now. How long have they been on?

Keep watching..J & K started out just like these shows. It's all about what TLC wants the shows to be. We used to think K & J was real too.

We who? :rolleyes1
:rotfl:

Also, if Jon and Kate (or any other reality star, for that matter) didn't like how they were portrayed, then they didn't have to sign on. From what I understand, they were on year to year contracts. Ultimately, money talks.

They have, but those were specials. The series was after LPBW. I think court docs said 2007, didn't they?

Don't remember.

Jon and Kate have been on since 2007.

2 six year olds and 6 two year olds... that's what one of the show openings used to say.

I don't know that it was her turn. This article doesn't say.

Former "Jon and Kate Plus 8" star Jon Gosselin was reportedly thrown out of his own house over the weekend. Jon told "The Insider" during Tuesday night's episode that at about 11:00 p.m. Kate showed up and apparently started to "throw [his] luggage at the door." Among the contents were Jon's clothing and his laptop.

Thanks. I wonder, if it wasn't her day, why he wouldn't have called the cops? I wonder if the kids were at home and if they got to witness this. Shame on the both of them, if so. I wonder how she 'started' to throw it. I wonder if she picked it up and he got to it before she actually threw it.

Did the kids celebrate their 2nd birthday on the show?
Aren't they 5 now? Would that be three years they have been on?

Kate has never said she didn't like how she was portrayed. She said that (especially the negative) portrayals of her were real. She never complained as though to say "I wish they wouldn't show that..."

I didn't watch Monday, so I'm not sure if she said something.

The only people in reality who I have heard that didn't like their portrayal are people that are on shows like Big Brother or Survivor. In those, they are taking very different people and telling the story and they will purposefully edit people to show a good or a bad side. Sometimes, the person will be backed up by other players who agree if there was a good side and all the show saw was bad.

Kate has never complained about her bad portrayal that I am aware of and didn't even Jon admit that TLC edited out resolutions and such.

I've not really heard any reality show star complain if the show was more true to life than a game show format. ("True to Life" as a format--not that the show is "true" portrayal of their life--hope that makes sense!)

I agree.. Obviously there is no way of knowing for sure - only what we see on the shows - but I have a gut feeling that Jim Bob Duggar was very smart in his contract dealings with TLC.. There are many things on that show that we "could" see - but don't - and I have a feeling it's because the Duggars have the final say in what airs and what doesn't.. (One thing in particular that comes to mind off the top of my head is the "green sheet shield" whenever Michelle had an ultrasound performed at the doctors..) And of course Jim Bob has stated numerous times on the show that they would no longer allow filming if their Christian lifestyle was not represented.. He's a smart man and obviously put some safety provisions in their contract before ever signing on the dotted line..

They started the series at age 2 and I think their 3rd birthday party was season 1.

3 years is 2007, 2008, 2009.

The tups were born in 2004.

I believe they had a special in 2005 and again in 2006.

Not sure--let's go check wikipedia.

I checked IMDB--even better!

Surviving Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later (2007) (TV) .... Herself
Surviving Sextuplets and Twins (2006) (TV) .... Herself

Those are the two specials....
And in 2007 they started the show.

So at most they have been filming for 4 years. However--just b/c a show airs in a given year, that is no indication of when it was filmed.

I.e the 2006 show could have been filmed in 2005 and this would have been their 5th year of filming if that is the case.

We, collective we :lmao:

I don't think Jon and Kate had a problem with how they were portrayed until Jon wanted to also do other money making stuff that wasn't sanctioned by TLC. They prob recognized that a large part of both of their behaviors is why it was successful. People like to watch train wrecks. They can say they don't, but the ratings spoke for themselves. And yes, for a certain amount of money, many people would not care how they are shown. If Jon didn't like how he was portrayed (wus), he could have easily not signed, same with Kate (bossy).

I did think that they signed for two years, with TLC having the say on if it would continue..no?

We who? :rolleyes1

Not sure how wikipedia can be correct and IMDB an be wrong considering the latter requires the shows producer to post and any Tom, Dick, or Harry can write a wikipedia article...

but wiki states:

The couple and their children star in the reality TV show Jon & Kate Plus 8, which documents their lives. The show's first two seasons aired on Discovery Health channel and then moved to TLC.[3]

The family was featured in a special on Discovery Health in September 2005 entitled Surviving Sextuplets and Twins. A year later they were featured in another special entitled Surviving Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later. With high ratings from the specials, Discovery Health signed the couple to a series that aired beginning in April 2007.[3] The family is filmed for three or four days per week. The family receives payment for appearing on the show

Where is a smiley that hits the side of your head, as in aha! Yes, I see the three years now LOL.

we'll never know, unfortuantely. totally he said, she said for this one.

the article said the weekend. isn't Jon usually there on the weekends? The ATV pics were from Sunday, right?

---------------------------------

here's something that will fall under the heading of "take it for what it's worth": There has been speculation on the internet that Kate only occasionally goes to a hotel to spend the night (when it's Jon's turn) if she's in town and not away on business. That she stays at the house, which would go along with her comments Kate has made in the past about how much time she's at the house (i.e. she feels like she's there much of the time). I don't know if that's a reasonable speculation, I would think it would be terribly difficult to be in the same house as the other parent, allowing them to have their time and not step in. At any rate, that's been floated out there... and these are people who suspected Jon was staying in the basement at the old house. their hunches aren't always so far off.

I thought TLC was only 2007 but they were on Discovery Health before that so I thought it was longer.

I had "heard" this as well, along the lines of she just stays in her room when it is his custody days. Although it would explain why the paps can't find Kate on Jon's days, it just seems to out there even for them.

Maybe they haven't even broken up. Hey, this rumor is as good as any other :rotfl2::lmao:

Hey All! Work's been busy this week so not nearly as much time for y'all! Sorry about that! :goodvibes

I was reading my CFO Magazine today and the October issue has a big article entitled "Back On Track: It's been a frightening year for credit - starved companies. Can they relax a little?". The story starts out like this:

In September 2008, as the fishermen who star in the hit show The Deadliest Catch crisscrossed the Bering Strait in search of snow crab, the show's creator, Discovery Communications, braced for a major squall. The programmer had gone public the same week that Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy and Bank of America gobbled up Merrill Lynch. On the cusp of the biggest storm in banking in 70 years, the company needed to adopt a more durable capital structure, one that matched its assets and its new stature as a public concern.

But the timing couldn't have been worse.

Discovery Communications CFO Brad Singer counseled patience, and after spreads tightened 400 basis points from January to July 2009, the $3.5 billion cable-television company pulled the trigger. It refinanced $1 billion of term loans and private-placement debt with an institutional loan and a bond offering, pushing out maturities from less than 18 months to 5 and even 10 years. The new debt didn't wipe out all of the old, though. "I'm an incrementalist," explains Singer. "Markets come and go, and as long as you have time, you're going to get the best terms if you can pick when to access the market."

So was Discovery using TLC to use J&K to help them get out of some of the debt that they have?? This could make sense if they were able to sell ad space during the show for much more than other shows. It would also explain why they're holding on so long and taking such an interest in Jon if he's "pulling the plug" on the profit they so desperately need.

I never believe it was anything but what TLC wanted us to see. I understand what you are saying now. But those are just words. None of the shows are actual. It's all for money. As long as they are considered reality shows, many will think that's what they are. I always assumed that what Kate meant is, they didn't cut out the 'bad' parts (although apparently they did some of them LOL). Didn't try to make her look nice, didn't try to make the kids perfect (no hitting!).

I haven't been to a speech Amy has given, so I have no idea what she says about the show. They are seldom on anything with interviews, although I bet they will be soon, if they keep portraying them like they are.

I don't think Amy goes around giving speeches. Kate and Jon speeches were for themselves and about how 'inspiring' their life is and for collecting.

I get to be off-topic and relevant all at the same time--do I get a triple word score bonus for that?

Someone just posted about an e-mail they got from somewhere where they scanned like every piece of documentation from the school about their 3rd graders progress and e-mailed it out.

Let's give Jon & Kate a *little* credit....I think they do have a line of privacy they don't cross and I don't seem them doing that to their kids. (not to mention how much scanning work that would be anyway).

Just so I'm not misunderstood, I'm not saying that LPBW is real by any stretch of the imagination. I know that pretty much all reality shows on TLC since their reality era began are staged in many aspects. I was moreso alluding to how J&K seemed to be more staged. Is it J&K's fault? I don't know, maybe TLC was using them as the test case of how to "influence" what occurs on their reality shows.

I watch them all, so I don't really dislike any of them. I just think that LPBW is less staged than J&K was ever since the Hawaii episodes. But yes, you are all right that none of it is totally real. The sad thing is that so many people think it is. Which gets me to thinking about the horrible reality TV shows on MTV and VH-1 that teens might be watching nowadays. Those shows are horrible. Filled with sex, sex, and more sex. But I don't want to derail the thread, so I'll stop right there.
