As has been said many times here on the DIS, you can find many different answers to the same questions on the internet.. Weren't you just trying to explain something about cats here recently - with internet links to back it up - that was strongly disputed by someone else? Same sort of scenario..

Not at all the same. Copyright laws aren't opinions. They are laws, very specific laws. I assume most people who put together a recipe book, do not copy all of the directions and/or the book in it's completed form. Many cookbooks carry the same recipes, because the person putting the book together has made changes. It doesn't seem fair, but it is legal. I self published and sold a book for Easy Bake Ovens many years ago. I was surprised that I could use any recipe, as long as I didn't use the name Easy Bake Ovens and I changed the preparations. I buy many cookbooks from churches that have the same recipes, but again, most of the directions are a bit different from each other.

How do I protect my recipe?
A mere listing of ingredients is not protected under copyright law. However, where a recipe or formula is accompanied by substantial literary expression in the form of an explanation or directions, or when there is a collection of recipes as in a cookbook, there may be a basis for copyright protection. Note that if you have secret ingredients to a recipe that you do not wish to be revealed, you should not submit your recipe for registration, because applications and deposit copies are public records. See FL 122, Recipes.

With that said, I didn't expect Kate's book to be original, but a compilation of thoughts and recipes that she uses (or doesn't LOL!).

Anyone care to share any tips with me that I would have gotten from Kate's cookbook had it come out on time? :goodvibes
I love this on line recipe place. On teh top, you can click on ingredients and put what you have on hand, and it will ship you a recipe using those ingredients. I have made many items from this place. I heard Kate does too :rotfl:

Actually, I provided a direct govt link--I didn't realize that their official information would be considered bunk. It does not contain what you say (regarding the 3 significant changes), but I let it go b/c if you have a book that states exactly what you state, who am I to refute.:confused3

What I said was a recipe was not copyrightable, it's presentation was and my only other comment was that is how Jessica Seinfeld got off the hook with her cookbook despite being sued by a person who wrote a book first that seemed very similar, but it was found she did not violate copyright laws.

And the only reason I responded to this post was over your chastisement of my internet research. That was below the belt and uncalled for.:sad2:

THANK YOU DORIS!!!

(Straight from the person who strongly disagreed with my cat research!)

She has been doing speeches for a long time. So has Matt. Has she stopped?

I don't think so. she doesn't do them as often as Kate in one fail swoop.

The speech on the most recent episode was in March/April this year as it was during the kid's spring break.

She doesn't do the circuit like Kate.

I think the 2 that I know they referred to on LPBW were at colleges as a guest speaker.

I think she did some this summer as well. I thought I read that she brought the kids with her and they spoke as well. Maybe I saw one on youtube.

Nope--going OT again...but with connections...:rotfl:

Okay--DH has been unemployed for 2 weeks and got several nibbles on his resume on Monday from recruiters. Interviewed with them on Monday, the one company called today for a "real" interview with the actual company with a potential start on Monday.

Bad news--it's in Marlyand (HOME of TLC and their lawsuit against Jon and south of Pennsylvania where the Gosselins live). (Good news, he will be almost as far away from PA that you can get so little chance of Gosselien contamination. :lmao:)

Good news--it's a job and we can make it work briefly. (DH can give Jon pointers on how easy it is to find a real job in this economy--okay I know it is hard for some folks, but I had to connect to J&K some how.)

Bad news--it's 9 months. Now add that to my ticker. :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1: (umm....let's see...connect...connect...Kate ticks Jon off, Jon ticks Kate off and 9 months from now maybe they'll be divorced and stop ticking each other off).

Good news--contract can be terminated...which is good b/c former employer should be up and running in March/April--so I'm hoping for THAT. (Much more quickly and easily than the Gosselins Divorce being finalized...)

Bad news--did I mention it was far away and due to the size of our mortgage and the amount of pets, us moving up to Maryland as a family is pretty much a no go. (Nope--we won't send the pets back to the breeder. They're all mutts, but they are our mutts! 5 kitty mutts and a bunny mutt.)

Good news--low cost of living area, so DH living up their by himself will still keep is with income that is sustainable unlike unemployment checks. (Jon and Kate's mansion probably can be bought for pennies on the dollar.:rotfl:)

That's all I got--but that's a YAHTZEE!!!

OMG. I don't know if this is a repost, because I am a newer contributer to this thread. Sorry if it is:

Um, was that Kate in the bathroom? (the picture). That was really funny. Oh if only Jon could use his powers for good instead of evil! ;) He has some potential there. This is kind of like the Kate spoof of herself for Jay Leno, though that was generic mom humor.

She has been doing speeches for a long time. So has Matt. Has she stopped?

What are their speeches about, and/or are they for an organization or for themselves?

Do they do a tour or is it a once in a while kind of thing?

A small part of what you have posted is correct - the rest is wrong.. But I'd rather not argue about - considering I don't have my sources right here on hand, so we'll have to agree to disagree..

And the only reason I responded to this post was over your chastisement of my internet research. That was below the belt and uncalled for.:sad2:

What was "below the belt"? It was an example - that happened to appear on this thread - of how various information on the internet can be skewed, incorrect, not up to date, etc. - and how people can have opposing views and/or question the validity of what they find via these searches.. Similar to all of the various links and youtubes regarding J&K.. I'm sorry you felt otherwise and I honestly don't see how it can be called "below the belt and uncalled for"..:confused3

At this point, I'm not sure what topic "is" safe to discuss on this thread anymore.. :guilty:

Yes, like Jon and Kate, sometimes you have to maintain different households. I hope it works out! We are a military family so we know all about making it work when dad is not around, you get through it. :flower3:

That was pretty good.
 if your dh gets the job in MA

"The court papers contend that Jon’s contract is overly restrictive and “against Public Policy and therefore, unenforceable and null and void.”

Then Jon shouldn't have signed them.

"His lawyers say that neither Jon nor Kate (nor the kids) were represented by a lawyer or manager when they negotiated their first contract in 2005 with the network."

That may very well be. However, they had legal representation in 2008 and that is when the last contract was signed.

[I"His lawyers say that neither Jon nor Kate (nor the kids) were represented by a lawyer or manager when they negotiated their first contract in 2005 with the network." [/I]
.

No lawyer or manager? How irresponsible is that?

I don't think they tour.

I know Matt had written a book (before the show--was selling them at some conventions early in the series).

I believe their topics deal with overcoming adversity (of course related to their dwarfism).
