Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread--Part 7

How do you do it? How much would camp in the summer & after school care be for 8 kids? Who watches them at night when your working as a nurse?

On the TLC paycheck you can have overnight help but on a nurse's paycheck? Then you have the sick days for each kid. I never knew any large family that the mother worked. If she is going to work as a nurse Jon & Haley will have to move back in.

I know a lot of mom's that do the 12 hour shifts on the weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Their dh take care of the kids on the weekend. They did it, so they didn't have to pay babysitters. In Wisconsin, they are making over $1200 a week as an RN working those shifts. My friends now have kids in highschool, one has a 3rd grader, but they are now going to day time shifts. If she doesn't find tv work, (she said she wants to work with TLC), I'm sure there was a reason why she renewed her nursing license.

Just glad to hear Kate admit (in an indirect way, though) that this is ALL her fault. That if she hadn't treated Jon like such a nothing, thinking she was everything that he would not have strayed. No, she is not responsible for his behavior now but she did start this whole domino effect. But yet she still wants to be on TV, exploiting her kids. She tore her marriage apart, next is the family as far as the kids, since she says they are already acting out. If she wants such peace for her kids, that can be accomplished without the cameras.

How'd she get 8 kids in that SUV? Well, I've certainly gone over the speed limit from time to time so she will get off with a warning from me! :rolleyes1

I thought she could only fit 6.

I thought that was what she said on the first day of school.:confused3

All parents I know with more than 6 kids had to upgrade to a van, b/c there wasn't an SUV on the market that would contain them. Or so I thought.

It might have been just Kara or Maddy, or just the tups.
Maybe she was going to a soccer game after school, who knows.
I'm sure they were all buckled in, and no one was sitting on the floor.

The reports said the nanny was there with her car as well when Kate picked them up at the bus in the SUV.

I didn't hear Kate say it was all her fault or that she thought she was everything. I heard her say she was not proud of how she treated him, that she wished it had been different. There are things they both could have done differently, and they are both saying that now.

Respectfully. I don't understand what the big deal is about her going back to nursing. If she likes doing TV, so what? I mean if she does a talk show or another show on TLC or whatever and she enjoys it and gets a paycheck more power to her IMHO. Most women you see on TV are moms.

I actually don't see her being a nurse again -- who would hire her after what they've seen on TV? But getting a real job is not the end of the world.

And what if the TV thing doesn't work out? What then? Maybe her insisting on doing the show is admitting that she can't succeed in a TV career on her own.

This is the real issue -- her life would have to change, a lot, if she did a regular job. Honestly, she could just do shifts on the days that Jon has custody.

It's not as if they're starting from zero -- they have a huge downpayment on the house where she lives, plus have another house to sell. If they both worked regular jobs, even part time, they could do it if they cut out excess spending.

And it's not as if J & K +8 was going to last forever -- at some point both parents would have to find another way to make an income. And I certainly don't see the parents' refusal to get real jobs as sufficient justification to make the kids continue doing the show.

I agree! I was a single mom with one child for a number of years and just with one child in daycare, it was tough to make ends meet and I have a college degree as does Kate. With 8 kids, it is impossible. Why would you do that and take time from your kids and work for someone else when you have the opportunity to work for yourself AND be with your kids? It's a no brainer.

I didn't come away with that interpretation.

That is the great thing about nursing -- hospitals are open 24/7. There aren't a lot of jobs where you can do that.

My mom is a nurse, well was, she hasn't been in 20 years but still renews her license. She does because it is very easy to do and IF she needs it, she has it. If you let it expire, it is not so easy to reobtain. She does not renew it to go back to nursing as she doesn't have any intention of ever doing.

I think Kate admitted to Ellen, that they try to eat as much organic food as they can, especially meat and vegetables. But she said it is very hard. So at least she changed her toon to "all organic"
and now just says, "as much as possible".

I watched the show this evening,
the thing that bothered me the most:
she sort of gasped and said, "how can I go back and be a nurse with 8 kids".
The interviewer should have said, "if you want to make it work-anything is possible."
And, sorry 1 more thing-she still can't admit or say, when they seperated.
She admitted that she realized the marriage was over, while flying in an airplane.

Well at least she is coming forward about that. The last I heard is that the kids didn't know what a Dorito was....:sad2:

The kids have a father. It isn't like she is a widow. She is divorced. Jon took care of the kids alone for many months before they hired help, he could do it again.

Once again, she has Jon. She is not a widow who found herself on her own unexpectedly. Our neighbor has 6 kids with two sets of multiples. According to her the multiples are the easiest at this point 8 & 12 because they have the same homework/same school events. She is *gasp* divorced and each parent plans their work schedule so that one can be with the kids.

Another thing that had me :sad2: last night is when Kate said she feels she is with the kids most of the time? She's delusional. Watching last night reminded me why I stopped watching.

OMG you have to be kidding, you don
t think that there are single nurses out their working, I really can't b elieve you, that is the craziest thing I have ever heard. She would have to find someone to watch the kids, just like all other single nurses do. I don't know why you think she is so special. I do understand about the money, but that other argument just takes the cake.

I just thought of one more thing. If the joint custody continues then Kate could work 12 hour shifts on her "off" days and then be home with the kids on her "on" days. Problem solved. ;)

I honestly don't remember, and don't have the interest to rewatch it to find out..but did she say most of the time, or more than Jon?

And I'm sure Jon will also work 12 hours on his off days, and they will share the cost of the house.

Of course, if Kate is working per diem, so she can work on her schedule (if the local hospital even has that available), getting health insurance might be a problem. And of course, I assume, just like hospitals around here, if soemone doesn't show up on the next shift, Kate would need to have a plan in mind (or Jon always available) to stay with the kids until she can leave work. Hopefully, whatever job Jon gets will have health insurance.
If they do downsize, it will be tougher for the kids to stay in the house and J & K switch places like they do now (in a smaller house). So one of them would have to have physical custody and a house, and each of them have a place that could fit all the kids when they have custody days. Hmm..I assume they would share the large van so they can get the kids to each house. So, that's at least three insured vehicles. So much easier to figure it out from my comfortable chair at home. I'm thinking not so easy for them to figure it out.

I'm curious what she thought she was going to do when she knew she was having sextuplets and didn't have the TLC show yet? Wouldn't they have thought they would have to make it on a nurse's and an IT's salaries?

What she means is she can't live the lifestyle she likes on regular salaries.

Here you go - sell the million dollar house and go back and live in the other house. Take the kids out of the ridiculously expensive private schools and put them in public schools. No more flying out to California for spa days. Harsh, I know, but hey Kate most people DO live that way!
