what I don't understand is ... why didn't Jon invite the videographer to shoot free and clear, instead of from the bushes?

Because they didn't pay $$$

you have to be non-profit to be tax exempt, but that does not automatically mean you have 501(c)(3) status. This I know from PTO at school. :lmao:

Oh TRUST ME I know this all too well, it is a costly and time consuming process to get a 501(c)(3) approved.....like starting around $5k plus where I work :goodvibes

That is interesting though that you can make your home a church even though it is only open to the public when you designate it as open. Clearly I have been missing out on a good property tax strategy! :rotfl2:

I found this on another site:

I don't think that article is correct. I don't believe that means no tax is due ever. I just looked up the name of a few people I found by googling and they are listed the same. Perhaps it's been paid, or you can't pay on line. As I said earlier, I found one site where it said they pay $11,000 in property taxes. I guess anyone can say anything.

well, crap. It sure looked good, didn't it? LOLOL ... I didn't think to try any other property.

Maybe it was TLC in the bushes:laughing:

Churches are not open to the public. Most churches are only open at certain times for their members.

Radar has photos of Jon decorating pumpkins with the kids. That's all cute and good, however it looks like the paps are right in the yard.

has it been documented anywhere that Jon invited the paps into the yard to take the pictures? I know it's walking and quacking like a duck right now, and I'm inclined to believe that Jon did have them back there shooting pictures .. but now that the post is gone (the same thing happened to a post on Radar telling about the guest on Paula Deen's talk show pilot) and there's no proof .. I don't know. I just like my facts, is all. LOL. :lmao:

It looks like they replaced the photos with video.

If you watch the video, you do see one guy taking pictures on the property.

Also, Michael Lohan at is at house. http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2009/10/jon-gosselin-michael-lohan-bike-buddies

I don't think that's entirely correct... many churches run preschools and other community oriented events throughout the week, and not just for their members. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean?

There was a d-bag dad summit in Pennsylvania this weekend, as Michael Lohan paid Jon Gosselin a visit.

Jon is getting huge.

We did all the leg work ourselves and it was just several hundred. We had to pay more though, because there was an error.

What kind of community oriented events?

What I mean is you are supposed to join a church. It is not like just going to a store it is more like going to Costco/ BJ you need to be a member. BJ is not open to the public if you are not a member you need a guest pass.

Chruches can say they do not want you to be a member most business that are open to the public have a hard time pulling that off.

Most of the preschools that are run in churches around here are renting out the space to the owner of the preschool. My DD went to one & the owner had a few in the area in churches. It may be different with your church.

Did you ask an attorney to do it? :rolleyes1 It costs quite a bit more, good for you for doing it by yourself though, many people are intimidated by all of the requirements :thumbsup2

The most important thing is making sure that it is run correctly once you get that coveted status, the price usually includes a year of monitoring too.

Anyway, I think that a "regular" church though it may not be open to the public 24 hours, is still a public place of worship. I have a hard time reconciling someone's personal residence as the same.

Our chuch has a house for the priest too, but that is only like 20% of the church grounds - the other 80% are the church and parish center.....it seems to me like your home would be more like 20% worship space and 80% living quarters. :confused3

This is probably why it's a slow J&K day:

Gosselins Vow to Shut Their Mouths...for Now

Today 10:50 AM PDT by Gina Serpe and Ken Baker

We'll believe it when we see it—or rather, when we don't see it, hear it or read about it—but after what we can only imagine was a contentious weekend for anyone bearing the surname Gosselin, something of a détente has been called, at least temporarily, between Jon and Kate.

"We have a truce," Jon's attorney, Mark Heller, told E! News. "Neither side will be commenting until after the hearing."

A noble if exceedingly tardy gesture, to be sure, but all won't be quiet on the Gosselin front for too long: The silence-breaking hearing of which Heller speaks is taking place tomorrow.

The arbitrator's conference will be held in Pennsylvania at an as-yet undisclosed location (in other words, not the courthouse) most likely at an attorney's office.

Over the weekend, Kate's attorney, Mark Momjian, told E! News that the duo will attempt to hash out agreements on "economic issues"—all 235,000 of them, we're guessing—during the hearing. Last week, Kate filed for temporary spousal and child support from Jon.

But while the duo may be doing their best to keep a low profile today, the same can't be said for their hangers-on. Chief among them, Michael Lohan.

While Jon spent the weekend on parental duty, getting tagged out by Kate last night, the reality dad isn't hurting for company thanks to the unexpected and no doubt unsolicited arrival of his fellow tabloid-baiting papa.

"Jon didn't know he was coming into town and Michael already left to go home to Long Island," a source told E! News of Lohan's visit.

"I think he came into town to discuss the single dads reality show they have been thinking about for some time."

While the outcome of tomorrow's hearing remains a mystery, either way, Jon is scheduled to be back on dad duty by Wednesday.

Jon better not go outside. ;)

What kind of community oriented events?

MOPS, Upward football/basketball/soccer, AARP driving courses, blood drives, divorce support groups ... all of those are sponsored by at least one local church in my area and are open to the community. Church membership is not a requirement. I know of dozens of "trunk or treat" events sponsored by churches on Halloween night, and anyone can go. The largest church in our community has a HUGE July 4th celebration that we've attended and aren't members.

What I mean is you are supposed to join a church. It is not like just going to a store it is more like going to Costco/ BJ you need to be a member. BJ is not open to the public if you are not a member you need a guest pass.

While I agree that churches prefer people to become members, but I've never been involved with one that has told me I was supposed to join. Maybe it's a regional thing, or specific to the faith-based tradition practiced? I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, I'm just confused by what you're saying.

Most of the preschools that are run in churches around here are renting out the space to the owner of the preschool. My DD went to one & the owner had a few in the area in churches. It may be different with your church.

every church preschool in this town is run through the church, as a ministry of the specific church. I am not aware of one in my town that rents space from the church (although I have heard of it in other areas).

While it may be slow today, this statement says it's gonna be busy tomorrow! :rotfl:

What kind of church is for members only? That's what a church is, a community outreach. Church preschools around here are all part of the church's ministry. Youth events, carnivals, vbs, Wed. night dinner, mission friends, sports...it's all outreach. They would never limit worship to members.

I love the Duggars. They are different, but oh so refreshing! I don't care if they pay taxes or not. There is no sense of entitlement there. The kids seem to be confident, competent, and sure that they are loved.

Poor Gosselin kids, those two numb skulls for parents...

AAA meets in our church hall as do the boy scouts and girl scouts. A grief group meets here also each week. We are also the designated civil defense building in our neighborhood.
