Did you ask an attorney to do it? :rolleyes1 It costs quite a bit more, good for you for doing it by yourself though, many people are intimidated by all of the requirements
No, we have several very capable people and when you put all those heads together, it works LOL!

It only took one day for the Attorney General to get all our paper work on line. Now everyone can see how we did at filling out the paperwork LOL.

I bet you mean AA :rotfl:...our church lets a group meet here too! Scouts...good one I forgot about!
Yes I did. I was trying to be so careful too.

Several churches rent out their rooms for nursery schools in our area. We also let our hall be used for baby and wedding showers and private parties (no drinking) for $35 (cleaning fee).

MOPS, Upward football/basketball/soccer, AARP driving courses, blood drives, divorce support groups ... all of those are sponsored by at least one local church in my area and are open to the community. Church membership is not a requirement. I know of dozens of "trunk or treat" events sponsored by churches on Halloween night, and anyone can go. The largest church in our community has a HUGE July 4th celebration that we've attended and aren't members.

While I agree that churches prefer people to become members, but I've never been involved with one that has told me I was supposed to join. Maybe it's a regional thing, or specific to the faith-based tradition practiced? I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, I'm just confused by what you're saying.

every church preschool in this town is run through the church, as a ministry of the specific church. I am not aware of one in my town that rents space from the church (although I have heard of it in other areas).

Just agreeing with you here. I do everything at our local Methodist Church...MDO, preschool, sports, VBS...all run by the church and we are not members. They have a Community Life Center with a free, open to the community gym and tons of classes anyone can take. They are awesome!

What kind of community oriented events?

What I mean is you are supposed to join a church. It is not like just going to a store it is more like going to Costco/ BJ you need to be a member. BJ is not open to the public if you are not a member you need a guest pass.

Chruches can say they do not want you to be a member most business that are open to the public have a hard time pulling that off.

Most of the preschools that are run in churches around here are renting out the space to the owner of the preschool. My DD went to one & the owner had a few in the area in churches. It may be different with your church.

None of the churches around here that I know of rent out space to pre school, they are church run preschools and you don't have to be a member to go to them. I think a church saying that they don't want you as a member would not look very good on them. I can't imagine what you would have to do to not be a member.

Churches are not a public place that is what I have been saying.
they might let you in but they do have to like a store for example.

We are Catholic & only members of the church can play sports for the CYO teams. Our church will rent a hall out but you need a member to rent it for you.

My friend has been visiting churches trying to find the right fit they all want you to join that she has been to.

If you have a home church you can say when you want a service to be held & you do not have to be "open to the public."

Speaking as someone who raised their brother, a "free" nanny like the Gosselins have and a sibling being used as a "free nanny" are two VERY different things. .

That's not really what I meant. The post that I responded to was about having children do chores like mowing the lawn, laundry...but not babysitting.

My MIL is in Vero Beach the churches are really different than up here.

Even the Catholic Church is so different. The priest owns a few nail salons...which is really strange to me.

I just recently found out that a pastor can make a conscientous objection (or whatever it is called) to paying income taxes out of their income. But it can only be on their pastoral income.

Really? My BIL is a pastor (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) and not only has to pay income tax as self-employed but also has to pay income taxes on the fair market value for rent while his family lives in the parsonage.

This is probably why it's a slow J&K day:

Gosselins Vow to Shut Their Mouths...for Now

Today 10:50 AM PDT by Gina Serpe and Ken Baker

We'll believe it when we see it—or rather, when we don't see it, hear it or read about it—but after what we can only imagine was a contentious weekend for anyone bearing the surname Gosselin, something of a détente has been called, at least temporarily, between Jon and Kate.

"We have a truce," Jon's attorney, Mark Heller, told E! News. "Neither side will be commenting until after the hearing."

A noble if exceedingly tardy gesture, to be sure, but all won't be quiet on the Gosselin front for too long: The silence-breaking hearing of which Heller speaks is taking place tomorrow.

The arbitrator's conference will be held in Pennsylvania at an as-yet undisclosed location (in other words, not the courthouse) most likely at an attorney's office.

Over the weekend, Kate's attorney, Mark Momjian, told E! News that the duo will attempt to hash out agreements on "economic issues"—all 235,000 of them, we're guessing—during the hearing. Last week, Kate filed for temporary spousal and child support from Jon.

But while the duo may be doing their best to keep a low profile today, the same can't be said for their hangers-on. Chief among them, Michael Lohan.

While Jon spent the weekend on parental duty, getting tagged out by Kate last night, the reality dad isn't hurting for company thanks to the unexpected and no doubt unsolicited arrival of his fellow tabloid-baiting papa.

"Jon didn't know he was coming into town and Michael already left to go home to Long Island," a source told E! News of Lohan's visit.

"I think he came into town to discuss the single dads reality show they have been thinking about for some time."

While the outcome of tomorrow's hearing remains a mystery, either way, Jon is scheduled to be back on dad duty by Wednesday.

Mmmmmm, I wonder if Jon will still be ET tonight? They said Friday, he would be on Monday night to talk about how it went with his kids over the weekend.

that must be specific to your area, or my part of the country is very different than any place else.

I attend the local Catholic church, but am not a member. I was told where to pick up a membership packet when I started attending, but that was the only time joining the church was ever mentioned to me. In fact, I alternate between 2 Catholic churches, tithe at whichever one I am attending that day, and membership has never been a concern.

Now, the larger of the two churches has a similar rule about renting their facilities -- they'll let anyone use it, but you must go through a member/sponsor to do it.

You do not have to be a member of the church to attend the parochial school, either. Members get priority, but membership is not a requirement.

My friend has been visiting churches trying to find the right fit they all want you to join that she has been to.

My husband did the same thing when we moved here (he is not Catholic) and that was not our experience. I know that it does happen in other places, though... including locally. It just isn't something we are personally familiar with.

If you have a home church you can say when you want a service to be held & you do not have to be "open to the public."

Outside of daily Mass, a funeral, wedding, or other special event .. what reason would you have for scheduling a private service?

My MIL is in Vero Beach the churches are really different than up here.

that's why I was asking so many questions -- I really wasn't trying to be argumentative .. I was just trying to understand what you are saying. I think we're mostly talking about regional differences. And also, the difference between a Catholic and Protestant church. Being Catholic and married to a Baptist has taught me a lot over the years. LOLOL. Someone mentioned a Wednesday night supper -- those are BIG around here. Most of the Protestant churches have them in conjunction with their Wednesday night programming .. makes it easier for families to get to church if they don't have to worry about supper.

(is this religion talk? if it is .. please delete it! I don't want to get into trouble!)

Even the Catholic Church is so different. The priest owns a few nail salons...which is really strange to me.

my SIL priest owns condos in West Palm, LOL.. I always get a kick out of that.

Maybe the priest likes his congregations to have nice nails. lol

That's just sick since the pictures ended up all over today. It's one thing if it's a friend and Jon wanted pictures of the kids carving pumpkins. It's another to sell them for your own gain..... Also, still no helmets and the girl's hair is hanging in their face (just a pet peeve of mine!). Come on people! Safety!!

Hopefully Kate's allowed to show this to the judge tomorrow to show Jon doesn't want the kids off tv - he just wanted to stick it to Kate and TLC. Can you use something like this in court? I have no idea but it seems like it's pretty good proof that he doesn't care if his kids are in the public eye or not...

Did I miss something where it said that Jon hired someone to shoot the video or release pictures to the tabloids? I watched the video and it's quite obvious that it was taken from a distance. The only sound that you hear is a car honking. You can't hear anyone talking. As for the photographer, how do you know which pictures he took and if any of those pictures are the ones that are showing up today?

What is showing these pictures to the judge going to do? Does Kate (or anyone else for that matter) have any proof that Jon released them?

You could go undetected around here in a Catholic Church. But if you try to have a wedding, funeral or christening they will tell you no way. Even if you are registered in the Parish the Priest might say he has not seen you at mass aka not getting the weekly envelope & tell you no way.

We were talking about a HOME CHURCH like the Duggars have. Thats how the private/public thing started. I hope we do not get in trouble for this.

Does anyone think he is making money doing this? Did I read Lohan was there with him this weekend. Do you think they are filming the new show:laughing:

The house is set up for itpirate:

Apparently, Jon has said definitively that he's not doing that show. If Michael Lohan showed up unexpectedly it may be to try to convince him otherwise, because IMO nobody is going to watch a show just because Michael Lohan is on it -- probably the opposite.

I don't defend either of them. I find both Jon and Kate at fault for the current mess.

Same here.

While it may be slow today, this statement says it's gonna be busy tomorrow! :rotfl:

Exactly. They're all resting their vocal chords right now. :lmao:

ITA, the video was taken from the road, and it shows a photographer taking a picture of the front door :confused3 Weird, with all of those kids around to take shots of.

I also find it confusing that the shots that were up this morning were there only momentarily -- maybe they were taken from the bushes, since they were all from the same camera angle. The rest of the pictures from that day were of the front of the house (obviously the same day as the video because the kids were wearing the same clothes) and were also likely taken from the road, and those were up on the sosugary site. And in those pictures, there are also a few of Jon carrying a camera.

I have a few theories on how this all transpired, but they are only theories. None of us were there -- we don't know what really happened. Yes, I always err on the side of caution (with both Jon and Kate)

The video is from a pap that was probably on the street. The photographs in question were probably an exclusive for some magazine I would not say that Jon hired them, just that they paid Jon to allow them the exclusive.

Showing the pictures to a judge could show that Jon was not honest in saying he wanted the TLC show to stop because he wanted his kids out of the spotlight. Between allowing this photographer on property and the ET exclusive, it could be shown that Jon stopped the filming out of spite since TLC dropped him.

That photographer got plenty of pics of them in the backyard as well as Joel sitting on the stoop looking sad.

We were wondering how the P got pictures of the backyard... then we saw the video.

I don't think that's unheard of... no matter what part of the country you live in. Especially in a large parish.

and with that, no more church talk from me! :upsidedow

I am just catching up on this thread and last Thursday or so, the day of the twin's birthday, Kate dropped off the kids in what looked like a Target parking lot and Jon picked them up there....

Now, I must ask, does anyone know the story with this bus stop? The reason I ask is because my daughter went to a private school her entire life and during K-8 her bus picked her up at our house. How far is the kids school from their home, anyone know?

I am wondering because I know kids love to ride on buses to school but wouldn't it be better for those kids for them to be dropped off at school directly and then picked up there?

I had to believe after watching the fiasco that the kids would have much more privacy being left off at the school instead of in such a public place.

Just my opinion,

MsA

ITA with all of this. They must have to give the nannies hazard pay to do the school bus run.
