I don't understand the above. Didn't the stopping of the filming of the kids come about because Jon said, release me to let me do other things, or I'll not let you film the kids (or somethign like that)? Did the earlier lawyer try to get TLC to stop filming the kids (without Jon wanting something out of it, if he did) or do you mean the earlier lawyer tried to get Jon out of filming? Did Jon want to get out of filming (and out of being paid), or did Jon want to be free to also persue other things, if that was the case?
I think a soap opera is easier to follow, even not having watched one in years LOL!
It had something to do with the letter they had received from TLC stating that if either Jon or Kate felt that filming was detrimental at that time, they could stop it because of the divorce (which I'm guessing is different from any wording in their contract). But I don't know whether he also asked to be let out of his exclusive contract too. Based on what a TLC rep said about a month ago, stopping the filming would have meant a stop in the pay, so I guess that would have been assumed.
I never had any information on when this happened, but there were at least 2 links that discussed it (other than Jon saying so) -- one discussed Charles Meyer representing Jon and I think the other was an interview with Rabbi Shmuley, but it has been no secret since the time he did the LKL interview -- but it had to have been some time before Charles Meyer stopped representing Jon and that was some time in the summer.
what is the (or is there a?) difference between accepting cash/chips in Vegas or cash only for pictures at a speaking engagement like Jon and Kate did in the past? It should all be reported, right?
PS. I'm not trying to cast Kate in a bad light with this question, because it's a good question about what happens after she files -- I am just curious if there's a tax difference. Especially, if there is no difference, then Jon may (for as stupid as this seems/is) not have realized the implications OR he figures he got away with accepting cash for something once, it would be ok to do it again.
Yeah, I'd love to see how the "love offerings" are dealt with on a tax return -- not saying they never claimed them, just wondering what they would be called.
Why? Just because you accept cash doesn't mean that you're not claiming the money as income. Waitresses do it all of the time.
Yes, ITA, we only have Michael Lohan's word for it that Jon ever accepted cash or chips, and as far as I know you guys down there in the US haven't filed your 2009 tax returns yet -- there's no reason to believe IMO that Jon is trying to defraud the government.
It's stuff like this that is making me need to take a break. I'm sure this happens with Kate too although I don't notice it as much (which is why in my mind I've nicknamed her "teflon Kate") but I'm getting really tired of the posters who day in/day out are searching for reasons to declare Jon a terrible human being. Yes, I get that you don't like him, but honestly some of the stuff that is posted here -- new posters and lurkers must come away with the impression that this guy needs to spend the rest of his life in prison. And I just hate to be in the position to have to defend him against things that he actually hasn't done yet (or may never do) -- I don't want to defend him, period. People believe what they want to believe, so I'm just tired of arguing about these kinds of things.
It's been great hanging out with you all -- I'll check in again if something big comes out, or I get over this feeling, or you get to Thread 8 -- whichever happens first.
