If she gets a laptop she can get online and see all the ugliness :sad2:.

At 9yo, I am guessing the girls are already using a computer. They start the kids in "K" now with computers!! ::yes:: Heck, I was in the APPLE store on Saturday and saw some little tykes using computers...so cute as their little hands were working the mouse!

I know they are probably already using a computer but for her to have her own readily available is different than using one in school.

that's bothered me for a long time. the TLC crew, the paparazzi photographers and even the fans that take the children's pictures ...

I don't understand why on earth Jon and Kate Gosselin believe this is a healthy environment for the children. To be so obsessed with fame and money is something I cannot even imagine.

Jon, Jon, Jon.:sad2: He is such an idiot. That video is ridiculous. What kind of father just stands there while a strange camera man films his 2 little girls in the backseat?? What is wrong with them? How is this a good thing for the kids? How will this give them a better life? How will all these 'life experiences' benefit them when their privacy is so invaded? . . . It was just so disturbing to see that flock of paps form a semi-circle around Cara & Mady and even more disturbing that Jon let them. If that were my DH, he would've been punching cameras left and right to move them out of the way.

I agree with both of these. I felt awful for the girls. It's their birthday, and they have to 'share' Dad with the paps. Too bad he didn't pick them up at school without the entourage.

Mady's voice was quite rude, I thought. The comment didn't bother me...my kids have done the same, but the tone :sad2:

Weren't they there this am too, when kate dropped them off? I guess they must have been if I know who did the morning run! :guilty:

I can't watch the video of the pick up, but when you say they act like they don't like their father, it makes me so sad. I worry that Kate may poison them against him. And not that he doesn't deserve some of that, but still, he is their dad. I wouldn't wish their lives on anybody.
I don't think Kate needs to 'coach' the girls. Jon does it himself every time he answers the phone when he is with the family. His mind and spirit needs to be with the children. (Kate, too, but it seems like Jon is always on the phone when he is with the kids.)

I know they are probably already using a computer but for her to have her own readily available is different than using one in school.
This is what I was thinking too. DD uses a computer at school and has her own at home. But she's restricted to sites and her parents aren't in the middle of a nasty divorce with crap all over the internet. :sad2:

I really hope he was just messing with the paps when he said what their gifts were. And while I don't believe that every child should be treated identically in gift giving, I always try to treat them fairly monetarily, such as buying a TV for one stepdaughter I bought equivalent presents for other stepdaughter, just not a TV as she didn't need one. Even if it was a top of the line laptop, doesn't a 4 wheeler cost a lot more. :confused3 Also, I try to treat all stepdaughters fairly like that when they are both going to be together at an event like Christmas or in this case a shared birthday where the disparity would be obvious.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.

I agree but in this case I believe that he would need to show respect to his daughters before he is able to get that respect back. I'm not saying its right but just that this divorce is obviously taking a huge toll on them. :sad1:

Around here a 4 wheeler for a kid wouldn't cost much more than a top of the line laptop, but it's pretty common for farm kids to have them -- don't know what they charge in PA, and the prices might be higher if there aren't a lot of them sold there. Having said that, Mady will get to use her laptop a lot more than Cara will be able to use an ATV, so I would think that would even things out a lot more.

And I agree with a pp, I hope that ATV comes with a helmet. I have honestly never seen a kid using one without a helmet, but then again we have helmet laws for biking, skating and riding motorcycles and skidoos here too.

it was a good time! I was hoping to see TotalSnowWhite last Friday, but our paths didn't cross :(

I saw Paula Deen at Casey's Corner last Friday, resisted the urge to comment on Kate. :upsidedow She is LOVELY in person. Very kind to the fans who approached her. I was so surprised to see her at Casey's, though. Her family took up almost all the tables, LOL!

for anyone with a trip coming up .. the crowds from free dining were evident this week. it might have been because of fall break in many school districts and the Columbus day holiday weekend, but it was crowded this week compared to the same week last year.

Too bad the paths never crossed!

I love Paula! We've met her at The Lady and Sons here in Savannah and she was awesome! She was inside for pictures with Michael and Bobby and Jamie were outside playing football in the street - very relaxed and casual atmosphere and very nice! She played with my little one for a few minutes - they had a great time.

Yuck about the crowds! I figured it would be busier though - it seems like they're coming out with a new promotion every time you turn around!

UPDATE: Jon Gosselin has a double-D problem on his hands -- as in his daughter's name is misspelled on the cake. It's Mady -- not Maddy.

A person from a mysterious entertainment show ordered the cake Jon Gosselin is schlepping to the big birthday.

1008_jon_gosselin_infphoto_1084077_split_exsomething2.jpg

An intrepid TMZ reporter called the Cupcake Cafe in NYC. The owner told us she got several calls from "a person from"Entertainment Something," ordering the cake and asking permission to shoot inside the bakery when Jon came a callin'.

When Jon arrived at the shop he had his eye on the cupcakes -- thus the name, Cupcake Cafe. Jon was surprised to learn the person from "Entertainment Something" had already ordered a cake. The owner thinks Jon paid cash, but that begs the question -- did "Entertainment Something" ultimately foot the $94.00 bill?

We checked TV Guide but no "Entertainment Something" is listed. So we took a shot in the dark and contacted "Entertainment Tonight." The rep said her show absolutely did not pay for Jon's cake.

But when Jon got the cake, an entertainment show was inside the shop shooting the "action." We do not know if the crew from "Entertainment Something" was inside the store, but"Entertainment Tonight"was.

Stay tuned.

Ok first I think it's sick that you can't order your own daughter's birthday cake. Then they spell the name wrong.....Then you allow the entertainment show that ordered the cake to tape you picking it up even though you want to be "Just Jon"??? I'm not familiar with the bakery - is this one that "famous" people use and they're playing dumb with the name of the entertainment show or more of a "normal" person's bakery where they wouldn't normally get a call from a tv show to order a cake?

Well, who knows how true this is AND how on earth it's even known:

Gosselins Reach Truce for Twins' Birthdays

Jon Gosselin with misspelled birthday cake

Jon Gosselin had been gearing up for an all-out battle – and instead found a rare break in the animosity with Kate.

The patriarch of eight saw his twins Mady and Cara for their 9th birthdays at their Pennsylvania home on Thursday without having to cut short the visit as he had originally feared.

"I'm staying until the kids go to bed," he said during a break in the visit. "We're trying to be cordial for Mady and Cara."

Jon, 32, arrived at the celebration with a vanilla cake from New York's upscale Cupcake Café that had his daughter's name misspelled "Maddy" with an extra "d."

The store's Ann Warren says the cake was ordered over the telephone by an entertainment show – she couldn't remember the name, only that it was "Entertainment something" – for Jon to pick up, and that the woman caller spelled out the name.

The woman asked if it would be all right for people to film inside the bakery, and Warren said that would not be a problem. There were paparazzi and camera crews waiting when Jon got there. He looked at different cupcakes, but then Warren brought down the cake she had decorated. Jon seemed genuinely surprised, according to Warren.

The birthday visit marked a brief respite in the war between the reality TV couple now in the midst of a bitter divorce. On Wednesday, Jon had accused Kate of trying to change plans they had worked out to spend the birthday together by insisting that he only spend two hours in the late afternoon and early evening with the kids.

I think it's great that they were able to work it out and both spend the night with the girls. I hope they were able to contain themselves and have a nice night for the kids - I know it's a long shot but you can hope right??

And the cake - I think it looked more like a cake for Kate. I don't have girls and my kids aren't that old yet but it looked very fancy (at least the Mady's with the misspelled name) for a 9 year old I thought. What about fun, bright colors or a favorite sport, tv show, theme, something like that??? It just looked way too grown up for such little kids.

Last night on ET, Jon was buying the girl's swatch watches...great gift selection for each Cara and Mady! ::yes::

There -- that's my positive Gosselin comment for the day. :)

I can't get past watches for 9 year olds?? Really?? I hate wearing my wedding ring anywhere because I know how much we paid for that and I would hate to loose it and have to replace it. A 9 year old is bound to misplace a watch. What happened to "normal" toys like a DS or something like that - maybe even a nice trip to Disney to get a break???? (I'm sure they have whatever they want so it makes the gift shopping hard but a watch for a kid???)

That was so sad and disgusting. I blame Jon for that fiasco. He made such a big deal about today and their birthday etc...of course the papparazi was going to be there. :sad1:

If the paps and everyone are there, I would have preferred the TLC crew be there. At least they know those people and are comfortable with them. It probably would have made it more special and they (J&K) would have "behaved" for the camera maybe.

On a side note, has anybody noticed that Jon has said hardly anything to the paparazzi in the videos taken in about the last 24 hours? He just mumbles a couple of words under his breath (sort of reminds me of the way he used to talk with Kate when he was on the show)? Like when one of them at the fence said "what did Kate say when you got here?" He just said "Hello"

Except, of course, when he took the time to compliment Kate (and defend her) about the skit she did on Leno.

Big change -- wonder what caused it? Wonder if it will stay that way ie. I'm hoping.

Do you think that's because of the girl from the van yesterday that put a hault to the interview from the street in NYC? As soon as she came out and told him to tell the pap he had to go, his attitude totally changed.

New Details: Jon Gosselin's Birthday Gifts to his Twins Revealed

http://www.etonline.com/news/2009/10/79530/index.html

ET has exclusively learned what Jon Gosselin has given his twin girls for their ninth birthdays. Read on for details…

Sources tell only ET that Jon's birthday gift to daughter Mady was a laptop, while he gifted daughter Cara with an ATV that will be delivered in seven days.

Check back here for the latest.

I thought he bought them watches?

While I'm sure they can get just about anything, another ATV?? Cara can't ride Jon's when he's not there? Or maybe this will lead to some daddy/daughter time since they both will have one?? It seems like you'd be trying to save money and not blow it if you're taking your family off tv (your source of income) with no other job lined up... And the lap top - I hope someone (even if it's the nanny) has enough sense to put some limits or block sites or something on it before Mady starts using it.

At 9yo, I am guessing the girls are already using a computer. They start the kids in "K" now with computers!! ::yes:: Heck, I was in the APPLE store on Saturday and saw some little tykes using computers...so cute as their little hands were working the mouse!

Oh yes - DS5's homework a lot is on the computer. It's scary - I can't remember when we started using computers in school but it wasn't until I was in at least middle school and I remember at my dad's house they didn't have a computer so I had to type everything on a type writer. It also amazed me that DS2 is able to use some of the sites and how much understanding he has of it from watching his brother.

I know they are probably already using a computer but for her to have her own readily available is different than using one in school.

I agree - I hope there are some "rules" for using it. Maybe the internet isn't even an option on the laptop, who knows. If Mady's into the clothes and stuff, maybe it's got some special software or something like that so she can play around with designing clothes. I hope someone thought this out... Both gifts IMO could be a Mom against Dad gifts..."Mom won't let us use the laptop and ATV while you're not here" or something like that...

Taking care of her morning duties, Kate Gosselin was spotted dropping her kids off at the bus stop in Reading, Pennsylvania today (October 9).

The “Jon and Kate Plus 8” mommy took care to make sure her children were buckled in and secure amidst the rainy weather.

http://www.celebrity-gossip.net/cel...osselin-rainy-morning-at-the-bus-stop-219985/

Poor Mady looks ticked off in these pictures. Is the large black guy the other body guard?

With “hair that looks like she fights crime in space,” Kate Gosselin starred in one of the funnier sketches Jay Leno’s aired since the start of “The Jay Leno Show.”

In the bit, titled “MILF Meltdown,” Gosselin treats unruly paparazzi like her own kids, loading them into the car and sending some to time out until they’re ready to behave.

Gamely being in on the joke tends to be good publicity, but the timing of this Oct. 7 sketch was unfortunate. The preceding days involved a dispute over whether estranged husband Jon Gosselin drained their bank account, weepy television interviews about not having enough money to pay her bills, and allegations that Kate wouldn’t let Jon see their twin daughters on their birthday.

Not exactly the best time to have a jocular sketch poking fun at parenting skills hit the air.

But at least there's this: “MILF Meltdown” represents an innocent instance of bad timing that really isn’t anyone’s fault. Reps for “The Jay Leno Show” confirm that the taping took place on the show’s Burbank lot on Aug. 24, and it’s safe to say Gosselin had no idea then what this week would hold.

This is sad coming from a rag mag:

I've been getting a lot of emails from readers lately asking when the non-stop coverage of Jon and Kate Gosselin will come to an end.

I'll be honest—I don't have an answer for ya...

You see, stories about the train wreck reality stars do really well around here, and over at the entertainment news shows and celebrity rags. I promise you if they didn't, we wouldn't be covering them.

I know what you're thinking: the media created them. I agree—somewhat. Sure we all had a hand in making them bigger than they probably had to be, but that's in the past now.

You want the Gosselin hysteria to go away? You know what you have to do. Just stop paying attention to the stories about them, and I promise you the Gosselins will go away.

Yes, I do because there haven't been any videos of him talking like that to the paps, except for the one about Kate's skit, since then.

As for the cake and the watches, my DD would want that cake -- she's even asked for a wedding-style cake for her birthday. And she has been wearing a watch since before she started school -- not every day, more as jewelry -- and she now has 4 of them. Some of those were presents, but one she paid for out of her own money saved up from her allowance. Funny thing is, I never wear a watch -- all of my appointments are on my blackberry, and that keeps me on schedule better than a watch that I might forget to look at.

It wouldn't be safe for Cara to ride Jon's ATV -- she should only be riding one that fits her body size, like a bicycle or skidoo. They make them for kids as young as 6, and she will have to have it replaced when she is ready for the next size up.

When will Jon Gosselin be old news? I'm so tired of him.
—Vp, via Twitter

Now, now. No need to step on Jon Gosselin, alone like he is. He has only 14 or 15 twentysomething girls hanging on him at any given moment, and most of them can't possibly understand the exhaustion that comes with issuing all those salvos against his soon-to-be ex.

Assuming it's really what you want, there are about six things Gosselin could do to get us gossips to stop writing about him:

I turned to Robert Galinsky, who runs a real live school for would-be reality stars. He earns actual cash for teaching people how to be interesting to reality-show audiences, and it's not much of a stretch to figure out how those techniques could be applied in reverse.

His tips for Jon include:

1. Lying more. Yes, really. Jon should come out and say Kate is the best thing that ever happened to him. "If he starts lying in a preposterous way, people will eventually tune him out like white noise." Case in point, Galinsky says: Crayzee, onetime contender on Flavor of Love. "She lost in part because she kept lying, and people stopped paying attention."

2. Ceasing to dress like a meth dealer at a Lebanese disco. When it comes to bloggers like Jessica Morgan from Go Fug Yourself, Gosselin's Ed Hardy wardrobe has not been his friend. "If he were to dress like a normal person," Morgan tells me, "people would stop paying attention."

3. Eliminating conflict. Arguing is the cornerstone of reality stardom—and gossip media. Eliminate it, and the magic vanishes for viewers. "If he decided to show his children a decent role model for handling conflict, and he was nice to his ex, no one would care," says Morgan, who has tweeted about Gosselin quite a bit.

4. Going off the air permanently. Remember Jerri from Survivor? Exactly.

5. Getting an endorsement gig. This may not make much sense at first, but hear Galinsky out. "He's a reality star, he's supposed to be authentic," Galinsky explains. "Once he becomes a spokesperson he becomes corporatized, a hired hand." Case in point: Omarosa, a former contestant on The Apprentice. "Once she corporatized and packaged herself, we didn't see her in these spontaneous situations anymore. Once that happens, you're marginalized, and all you can get is speaking gigs."

6. And finally: Very simple. Jon, stop doing stuff.

I agree Madge! I don't understand why people choose to put personal photos of weddings, children, etc....on my space and facebook for all to see. I can't believe some of the people who post on youtube videos of themselves singing and they sound awful! Don't these people realize that a search on the internet could reveal information that they might not want out there??

Fame and money are why Kate wants to continue the show. Z on TV had an article today that said J & K plus 8 is dead. Kate plus 8 is on life support. They have lost 4 out of 5 viewers because of all the lies, deceit, etc.....

I'm glad the twins got nice gifts from Jon. At least they are getting to share some of the money they earned over the past 5 yrs.

I am so thankful for my friends and relatives who post photos of themselves and their family. Especially my SIL who lives across the country who posts photos of my nephew. It is just not the same thing as those looking for fame and fortune.

In the photos from this morning, Mady looked like she was in a good mood when she first got out of the car. One photo looks like Kate is looking through her bag for something. Maybe something got left behind. Or she's upset about the paps.

And yes, that looks like the other bodyguard.

Hey LoraJ! I post pictures of my kids as well on my facebook and shutterfly accounts because we live 1,000 miles away from our family so it's a little way of having them see what the kids are up to. Now I do have it set so only my friends can see them and I'm not shopping them for a tv show :goodvibes

Thanks! I thought so but wasn't 100% sure. I guess it's good that Kate's realizing the protection might be good to have around for the kids right now.

I thought he bought them watches?

If Jon bought an ATV for Kara,
he and the dealership - salesperson broke the law.
The law went into effect January 1, 2009. Nationwide.
This isn't just an individual state law.

You cannot buy an ATV for anyone under the age of 16.
Why? Because there is lead in the spark plug.
I'm not kidding.
No dealership can sell an ATV to anyone stated that it is for their child to ride. Plus Kara is suppose to be 12 years old,
to ride legally also.
Kara is suppose to take an ATV safety class at the age of 12.

Of course they can ride the ATV on their land,
but if she would have an accident, no insurance would cover her.
I'm hoping this isn't true.

Many families are buying "used" ATV's from individuals now in Moto-cross. Dealerships will not sell them, they don't want the liability either.

It's so funny how words/actions can be translated/mistranslated in the media. In this article on MSN (http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=435613&gt1=28103), the link from the main page says "Jon doesn't like Kate's Leno skit", I guess because he says the timing is messed up.

But as those of us in the know understand, he said that because the timing of when she filmed it was messed up from the time they aired it.

Who knows what other misunderstandings are out there??

But as those of us in the know understand, he said that because the timing of when she filmed it was messed up from the time they aired it.

I'm sure there are alot of misunderstandings out there. Last night on Showbiz Tonight they made a big thing of Kate taping that Jay Leno segment. They wanted to know why she was taping a skit with everything that was going on, like it was just taped this week. One of the links here says it was taped August 24th. They also made a big deal out of Kate buying a new ring to replace her wedding ring. I know Kate talked about getting a new ring, but it sounded like she hadn't bought it or ordered yet or anything. There was something else too that I know was wrong, but I can't remember now what it was.

That is a sad video clip... it looks like Kate was giving them a bit of a talk before they got out of the car..maybe "just ignore them, don't talk, don't look at them, etc." I know a lot of people are not Kate fans and think she puts on a "oh I'm all alone" act...but she looked so tired here...and at one point while she was walking back to her car I thought she was going to cry...there was just a look on her face. I know that they brought this on themselves...but still...no one deserves to have all those cameras in their face all the time.

I am starting to feel like I play a part in them being there since I click on the links....:confused3

It looks to me like Kate may have been telling them the same thing. They had to hear the questions through the glass of the SUV. I know what you mean Nancy, I am feeling the same way about me being part of the problem.

If I were them, I would hope my father protected me from scary situations like that, not encouraged it. :sad2:

I think this makes me the most angry at Jon and his making the paps his buds. It is becoming dangerous for the kids.

Poor Mady looks ticked off in these pictures. Is the large black guy the other body guard?

Yes, he is one of the bodyguards. He has been in photos before of Kate running errands with the kids and going to the grocery store.

This is sad coming from a rag mag:

Wow. Looks like a good time for me to stop going to Radar and checking the latest story. I went this morning but...I feel like I need a shower.

Who knows what other misunderstandings are out there??

Exactly, I was disgusted with Radar this morning because they had a story up about what a bad day Jon had yesterday. They went to say that he was almost banned from his daughter's 9th birthday. WHAT? Excuse Me? That in no way shape or form happened. I am done with them.

I'm sure there are alot of misunderstandings out there. Last night on Showbiz Tonight they made a big thing of Kate taping that Jay Leno segment. It is like Redrosesix suggested, the media loves the negativity of it all. They love trying to show the worst of Jon and Kate and try to create more hate, drama and fighting with their version of the "story" they want to run.
