EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Michael Lohan Says Jon Gosselin Wants Off TLC To Pursue New Show

Posted on Oct 01, 2009 @ 04:10PM

While the world and TLC is still reeling from Jon Gosselin's recent announcement that he wants to shut down filming of Jon & Kate Plus 8, his friend Michael Lohan tells RadarOnline.com exclusively that the reality dad wants out of his TLC contract to pursue a new show.

“All I can tell you from my conversation with him two days ago is that he does want to pursue the Divorced Dads Club,” Lohan said. “Michael Heller, he and I represent Jon on a business level, wants him to do the show. Mark is trying to get him out of the TLC contract so he can.”

Divorced Dads Club is a new reality show chronicling the lives of famous divorced fathers and would include Gosselin and Lohan as two of its stars.

Lohan also revealed that TLC has been trying to force out Gosselin for awhile while keeping him on contract while they focus on Kate. On Tuesday, the network announced the dad’s role on the show would be limited and the show’s name changed to simply “Kate Plus 8.”

“TLC has come out and basically cut him out of Jon & Kate Plus 8,” he added. “They’ve taken the step already to do so. But what they’re trying to do is cut him out, cut him out, but tie him up still so he can’t do something else, while they reinvent Kate.”

Hmm, I wonder how much truth there is to this? It's hard to believe anything Lohan says though.

It is my understanding that only one parent needs to agree to the filming while the parents are still married. Also, only one home owner needs to give permission for the film crew to be on site while they both own the home.

Jon is a tool of epic proportions.

Oh, and Discovery network, who owns TLC, has offices in DC.

Does this mean that after Jon and Kate's divorce is finalized, both parents need to consent to filming? If I understood that correctly, isn't it odd that Jon wants to stop filming but delays the divorce at the same time? When the divorce is finalized, he can just say he does not want his kids filmed and the show has to stop right?

The Radar article about TLC suing Jon over the TV interviews says that Kate is going to be on after Jon tonight on Larry King to respond to whatever he says. :scared1: Wow. Trainwreck TV at it's finest.

ITA plus it's not like he's a disinterested 3rd party here -- he's looking out for himself here too. But I understood that this show was still in the concept stage -- they haven't really finalized the structure of the show, or who would be in it.

I thought I read an attorney for Kate, not Kate herself. I imagine Larry King would turn very "Jerry Springer" if Jon and Kate appeared together. :rotfl:

I wonder if Jon will appear with/without his attorney?

Ok - it's with!

/
I don't know about that! Jon seems pretty emotional - if Larry keeps at him with some tough questions maybe he'll actually say something interesting. His lawyer seems quite the hotshot!

His lawyer seems like a creepy, opportunist!.......sleazy! That's what he is!

okay...so now the kids have been "working" for 5 years without compensation because J&K were too poor to have an attorney look out for them and were bullied by big TLC into signing contracts. Really...parents are greedy=kids get the shaft

so do you believe him? a bodyguard, house arrest?

well they may have placed a bodyguard at the home but really that could be explained by the mass amounts of paparazzi they came out when Jon started clubbing. House arrest...seriously? He was always out with the ladies!

How embarrassing for the kids.

That's what I read as well.

No, he seems like an entertainment lawyer.

Totally agree!

Wow, only 22,500 per episode. There were reports it was like $75,000.

Whoa, Jon just said that Kate wants to continue the show for her own benefit, finances. Yikes.

But I do think they should have had a lawyer look over the contracts.

I might believe they didn't have the first one looked over, but c'mon, how many contracts do you think they've had to sign over the past 5 years. If they didn't it was certainly their own stupidity (perhaps greed blinded them)
