Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 6

I thought it was interesting when he asked if they had signed contracts for season six. I got the impression she did but that the show would not involve Jon.

it was said in an interview that season 6 was an option .. they'd see how the ratings did and re-evaluate.

Okay...finally got caught up on school stuff enough to sit down and read pages on the thread. I couldn't have picked a better time. Very good stuff.

Just a couple of comments--so glad other people dislike Elizabeth H. from the view. Besides her political views, which drive me insane, she is just plain annoying. Kate would be a welcome change.

Also, don't think Kate as said much outside what most people would be tempted to say about an ex-spouse under the same circumstances. Saying he was acting like a 15 year old isn't exactly something your kids are going to hate you for later not is it likely to cause her and Jon to never speak again.

Also, I agree that Kate will have a difficult time keeping up with the View. She didn't seem all too bright in Multiple Blessings.

I don't know, what would the kids think? I don't think most people would carry on about their divorce in such a public manner. If you think Kate is taking the high road and her calling Jon a 15 y/o won't harm the kids, more power to you. But, IMO she is equal to Jon when it comes to things the kids will cringe about both now and later. True or not, a mother concerned for her children and their privacy(or one concerned about their relationship with their father) does not go on a media blitz. Period.

I totally agree. A mother who is so concerned about her kids privacy doesn't do television interviews. She is doing everything she can to save this show. She will jump through hoops to keep that gravy train going. Sorry--it won't be enough. The divorce changes the reason for the series in the first place. They lost too many viewers for this show to continue. Everyone is sick of their free trips and freebies.
Concerning Kate's filling in on "The View"--they must be pretty desperate with who they are using for fill ins, but of course, Elisabeth is no prize either.

I'd rather listen to Kate Gosselin (or Jon Gosselin, or Shooka Gosselin for that matter) talk than Elisabeth Hasselbeck any day.
of the names I saw listed, I'm looking forward to Megan McCain.

I can't believe The View is having kate as a guest-host when they have talked about her in the past. Isn't that alittle two-faced? Plus when do the kids start school? As a mom, I would be busy getting my kids ready for school and excited about getting them in a positive school routine instead of running off to be on tv.

ITA! The real measure of what should be considered bad-mouthing is whether the kids should be hearing their mother saying things like that about their father - not quite the same as when she bad-mouthed him during their marriage, since she is now making comments which essentially say Jon doesn't care enough about the kids. I feel the same way about her statement that she had to file for divorce to protect her children.

And whether it is true or not makes no difference. There is a huge difference between a tabloid saying something about their dad and their mother saying it. Sure, in the end she might be able to make her kids hate their father but what will she have gained? JMHO, I know there are a lot of people on this thread with some very strong feelings against Jonn so maybe they don't mind what Kate says about him, but it's not like were talking about a child molestor or a serial killer here.

What would I think the kids would think? That Jon is acting like a 15 year old. I assume if in fact the twins did call their mom, that would be why. She didn't call him a 15 year old. She said he was acting like one. Compared to what many parents call their husbands in person in front of the kids during a divorce, I thought that was tame. I'm sure when they see the covers showing just what dad is doing, being told he is acting imature is nothing.

Where are you finding this info that they have lost too many viewers? The amount of people watching this show is still considered considerable for a cable show, and is still not as low as it was before the last show of last season. I agree it was way up during the last and first show, but that was an artifical high.I have seen nothing pointing to the loss of too many viewers for this show to continue. The boards I read are pro show, and have been loving the way the series is now. I think the view on who likes it and who doesn't really depends on what type of boards you read. Eventually it may go back down and down, but right now there are people enjoying the way it is going, including the 'freebee' trips.

I like Kate, The View and Elizabeth ( we part ways on some of her most conservative views, even though I am a Republican). IMHO opinion Barbra is the most annoying followed by Joy. Anyways, I have seen Elisabeth comment on JK+8 she think they should stop the show. Too bad Kate is filling in for her; like Elizabeth or not she isn't afraid to tell her opinion! Would be very interesting!popcorn::

if kate is truly interested in trying to get her own talk show then i can see her appearing on the view as a way for her/her "people" to test the waters and see how she does/how people respond.

for the life of me though-i can't figure out what kind of format/style of talk show anyone who develops these could come up with that realy would suit her/market well.

when i look at all the talk shows and the celebs that have managed to be successful hosting over the years i can't come up with any format that would suit her/be effective.

i don't think she has the skills/knowledge that an unscripted kind of moderator type show calls for. unless it was HEAVILY scripted i can't see her as being able to interview people and doing the follow up questions that the successful hosts come up with spontaniously (seems the realy successful ones with this are former journalists, lawyers or counselor types-people with strong interviewing/communication skils). i also can't see celebs, people in the public eye clamoring to have her interview them (as they do with oprah, barbara walters and maria shriver).

i don't think they could market her in the "domestic" vein. she's shown on her own show that she does'nt like the 'artsy/craftsy' thing, she's no queen of the kitchen, and it would come off very fake to have her talking about/trying to get people to relate to her as a sahm or even a tradition work outside the house mom when as a talk show host she obviously would not be (so forget her talking about what it's like to be with all those kids 24/7, dealing with the laundry/housekeeping-unless it would focus on how to successfully do it with "only" a small staff of personal assistants and childcare providers:rolleyes:)

so what would that leave? the light, bantering celeb interview format? can anyone see any celebs with audience drawing power clamoring to be interviewed by kate???

i think at one point, before all the current drama in the household and mudslinging back and forth there could have possibly been a niche for her on one of the christian networks. she would have had to have gotten direction and training on how to speak (sorry but all those uuuuums and the rolling of eyes and other habits she has would'nt fly) but she might have been able to pull off some kind of fakey soft topic show where she talked about raising a christian family and did segments on coupon clipping and budget meals and such but i can't imagine any of the christian networks remotly considering her at this point. they might feature her on a show now and again, but i don't think they would even consider her for a host at this point (they like their hosts to fly under the radar).

the view is also having latoya jackson guest host one day, so i'm guessing their selection criteria is strictly based on who will pull in viewers not who can functionaly participate in any kind of capacity as a co-host.

The twins are off to school and we now know why Kate decided on jr. kindergarten for the tups:

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20300664,00.html?xid=rss-yahooheadlines

Jon gave the interview, not Kate...and I'm hoping that means they came to a decision about the junior kindergarten thing together. Kate did say on LKL that she and Jon do agree about school issues.

I point that out because the topic of school has already come up once before. It's a decision (hopefully) both parents made together, and it isn't really fair to put the spotlight on Kate or Jon singularly about this decision. KWIM?

My mistake, it was Kate who said it. Yes, it was Jon who told that to People Mag. Regardless, my point was that we have an answer to why the tups are only doing jr. kindergarten. I assume they agree on school issues since both of them were there at the bus stop and Kate said they agree on Larry King Live when it comes to school and the kids. I wasn't putting it on Kate or Jon alone. I guess my wording wasn't great or clear.

Somebody on the thread who I can't recall now, mentioned they thought the tups might not be going to full kindergarten because they were preemies. That made sense to me and then this morning I saw that article in People saying the same. Which is why I posted it. I think J&K must agree on school issues or else we'd be hearing about it in some trashy magazine!

Really? Five and eight y/o should be aware their father is being immature? What does this accomplish and how is that good for the child? Huge difference between doing something in person and doing it where everyone in the world (literally) can see/hear it. I think children should be shielded, but I look to be in the minority.
