Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 5

He answered questions about Deanna Hummel, going to clubs, and smoking without any hesitation. It was only when asked about the status of the relationship with Kate did Jon tell people to watch the show.

Well then, this lends credence to the idea that TLC has something worked into their contract regarding their marital status. We have no idea what their crazy contract might include. It does make me wonder that there is something in it that restricts J&K from talking about their marital status to the public unless it be through the show. Which would explain why both J&K have said to watch the show when repeatedly asked by the paps about their marital status.

Did I miss something? Jon smokes???

What I find most shocking is that there will be a Season 6! Enough already! Cancel this show and go live your private lives. All of the kids will be in school now and they need privacy to grow up, not their Mom and Dad on People Magazine every week talking about their marriage! Go away and raise your kids! We are all sick of the drama and the pain!

I couldn't agree more.

DH and I were talking about what a stupid woman it would be to get involved with him...

TMZ said that the checkmark does not mean that they have been apart for 2 years.

Oh. Thanks for explaining that. I just heard on the Today show that Kate told People they have led seperate lives for the past couple of years though. So, living together but not really living together, I guess.

What I find most shocking is that there will be a Season 6!
I haven't seen anything definite about season 6. according to an interview Jon gave earlier this year, after season 5 there is an option for 2 more seasons.

In reading the article, it says they were making Father's Day cards for Jon, but he would not be around for Father's Day. Did I read somewhere else where Jon was out front of the property signing autographs and talking to the media? If so, something is not right.:confused3
I read that as they were doing the project on Friday, and he'd get the cards 2 days later... that Jon was absent when they were making the cards.

Remember when they moved into the new house and Kate showed the kids the new master bedroom and told them they would never be in that room again? I'm wondering if that's because they were "separated" behind closed doors.

The worse thing about divorce (not withstanding the hurt the kids will feel) is the lawyers.
Any talking in public they will both do, will be what the lawyers tell them to do, to make their side better.
I always find it funny, when one person says, this will be private and he/she should keep it that way, and not talk to the media...while they are telling that to the media :lmao:

They are both beyond keeping this private. As long as stories are printed about what is going on, they both will feel they need to get their side out.

And, she didn't phrase "The show must go on" as a question. It was a statement. She likes the money...who wouldn't? But when it comes down to tearing your family apart I think I would put it on hold.

I heard her use the phrase as an aswer to a question - probably similar to the one asked of Jon about how the show will move forward (or something like that).

I think this is the wrong perspective on that. Jon won't answer questions from the media on the spot, and his public statements will only be through the show or his lawyer -- I can easily imagine him losing his cool with some reporter asking personal questions in his front yard on Father's Day. Would you really have expected him to stand there and do interviews on Father's Day?

If he didn't want to do interviews on Father's Day then he should have stayed in his yard with his kids. I agree with madge - he answered many other questions....

Okay, so two days ago Kate filed for divorce and somehow in everything that has been going on it has been discussed and decided that the girlfriend is going to be on the show? I find that impossible to believe. TLC decides to put the show on hiatus and then what? Calls Jon and says "Hey, let's have Deanna on the new episodes!" Please.

I would think TLC is working hard right now trying to figure out what they're going to do for the rest of the season. It would have made sense for them to film over the summer while the kids were out of school. Now they'll maybe film the end of summer and into the school year, which seems like it would be more hard on the kids with school and all in their days. I'm sure the TLC people are all sitting around right now trying to figure out ideas for episodes and such....maybe it was a stipulation for Jon to continue the show - you show my friends or I'm done?? Who really knows. I do think it's way too early for any concrete details to come out though.

Did I miss something? Jon smokes???

Yes there were pictures on the last thread and he admitted it in an article...

I'm just wondering how long before Barbara Walters gets an one-on-one interview with Kate? Or Jon?popcorn::

Now do you really think Kate will allow the girlfriend to be paid, when she wouldn't pay her family and people she *liked*?! No way! She would be out of that contract so fast even if did cost 10 million dollars. :rotfl:

Wouldn't that be the ultimate in irony? If the girlfriend was getting paid by the show. :lmao: That might just be the one thing that would get Kate to stop the show. The girlfriend making money off HER kids. She said it about Jodi, "No body is making money off our kids but us!"

Here's the article from GMA this morning:

Despite an announcement that divorce proceedings have begun, "Jon & Kate Plus 8" matriarch Kate Gosselin is still wearing her wedding ring because taking it off would devastate her children.

Kate Gosselin explained to People magazine in an exclusive interview that it was her husband of 10 years, Jon Gosselin, who asked for the divorce.

"I curled up in a ball and I sobbed. I couldn't breathe; I was hyperventilating. I was scaring people who were calling to check on me because I couldn't even talk," she told the entertainment magazine.

In a confessional during Monday's night's episode of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" she said she didn't want raise her children as a single parent.

"I don't really want to be alone. I don't want to do this alone," she said.

Gosselin said her husband wanted to split for a long time before he told her he hired a lawyer and advised her to do the same. She said it's a step she would have never taken on her own.

People magazine deputy managing editor Peter Castro told "Good Morning America" that the situation is "the portrait of an American family crumbling."

"They don't hate each other," he said, but added, "[Jon] did not want any part of counseling; he wanted out of this marriage."

"It's real reality television," he said.

The Gosselins admitted on Monday night's episode that they had been living increasingly separate lives for the last two years, and Kate Gosselin said the breaking point in the marriage was not a result of the show or tabloid scrutiny.

"I believe it is a chapter that would have probably would have played out had the world been watching or not," Kate Gosselin said.

In the no-fault divorce papers she filed Monday in Montgomery County, Pa., she called her marriage "irretrievably broken" and said she is willing to "negotiate a fair and reasonable" settlement with Jon Gosselin.

Attorneys for both Jon and Kate Gosselin said Tuesday that the couple lived together on their Berks County compound until recently.

"They have been living 'separate and apart' just within the last week or two," said Jon's attorney, Charles Meyer, using a term from the divorce petition.

While court papers do not explain what led to the couple's breakup, in a statement released to the media Kate Gosselin said "Jon's activities" over the weekend had left her "no choice but to file legal procedures in order to protect myself and our children."

"To be honest, I was hurt by Kate's statement about the divorce," Jon countered Tuesday in his own release. "I have always done everything I can to protect our family. This weekend, I was home with the kids for four days, just being a dad. No nannies, just the kids and me."

While they reportedly are unable to agree on the division of their assets, Jon Gosselin said he hopes to "resolve things amicably."

Jon and Kate Gosselin broke the news to their children together, first by telling twins Cara and Mady.

The identical twins had very different reactions to the news.

"Mady was something. She said, 'I can't say this comes as much of a surprise. I could've guessed.' But Cara just crumpled into tears. She was crying, and I was holding her in my arms like a baby," Kate Gosselin told People.

The Gosselins broke the news to their sextuplets by keeping it "light and airy."

The Gosselins, who are parents of 8-year-old twins and 5-year-old sextuplets, have decided to share their expansive $1.1 million home in southeastern Pennsylvania and rotate time there so that each parent gets to spend time with the children.

The children were told, "Daddy's not going to live here sometimes, but he'll come back half the time and we'll trade on and off."

The family's troubles have resulted in huge ratings for the TLC show. The 10.6 million viewers who watched the Monday night show detailing the Gosselins' break up was a record, beating the huge audience for last month's "Jon & Kate" fifth season premiere by 800,000 viewers.

But the estranged couple's relationship difficulties will not get in the way of their hit TLC show. They've said they will continue filming the hit show.

"We interview separately, we'll film different things," Jon explained on Monday's episode. "Me and the kids, her and the kids."

"What [the show is] about changes almost on an episode basis," Castro said. "The reason people are tuning in is because this is American rubbernecking at its finest, or its worst, depending on your view."

The network said it would air a retrospective of the Gosselins' 10-year marriage next Monday, followed by a hiatus until Aug. 3.

During that break, "the family will take some time off to regroup, and then a modified schedule will be in place to support the family's transition," the network said.

In a statement Tuesday, TLC president Eileen O'Neill said the network "continues to support the Gosselin family and will work closely with them to determine the best way to continue to tell their story as they navigate through this difficult time."

New 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' episodes will include Jon Gosselin's new girlfriend

http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2009/06/24/2009-06-24_new_jon_and_kate_plus_.html

I will hold my thoughts until I see exactly what this means.
If we have to watch this play out infront of the children, then count me out for good. I agree with the PP who said it would be different if after some time, we see one of them meet somebody new & start dating again. But it's too soon for that.
If there is just a brief appearance of her in a group or something, that's different.

I just heard on the Today show that Kate told People they have led seperate lives for the past couple of years though. So, living together but not really living together, I guess.

They just have to prove that they lived as individuals - not necessarily physically in different homes. If they kept seperate bank accounts, bought cars without consulting the other, took separate vacations, seperate filming schedules, etc....these are all things one would do if not married.

Shame on Gosslin for violating her children's privacy in such a disgusting way. All I can hope is that the judge hearing the divorce reads this and has the same reaction. Those poor children. It's beyond indecent to chat with People about your children's pain. But, hey, money is money.:rolleyes1
(And, of course, J&K can take plenty of the credit for what the kids are being put through. :sad1:)

Did I miss something? Jon smokes???

He was photographed sneaky, sneaky; and it did not look factory rolled. Know what I'm sayin? Jon said he's struggled with "smoking" for a long time. He is a snowboarder, dude. You need to see the pic. :rolleyes1

He answered questions about Deanna Hummel, going to clubs, and smoking without any hesitation. It was only when asked about the status of the relationship with Kate did Jon tell people to watch the show.

Well exactly my point -- he's not doing interviews re Kate, their family, their kids, their divorce all over the place. It's either a teaser for the press, or having a bit of class -- guess it depends whether you've already decided you don't like him.
