Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

Okay, I've been away since 6/12, spent a week @ AKV. Miss WDW but glad to be home. Anyway, can someone provide me with cliff notes from last 9-10 days? It would be much appreciated. I even forgot to set DVR for Mon. night. I'll have to remember tomorrow night, ET & TLC.

Cliff notes??? Basically the word HATE has been debated and discussed on about half of what you missed!!

Jon Gosselin didn't just spend his Father's Day with his eight kids. He also spent it talking to fans and reporters outside his $1.1 million Pennsylvania home.

In an impromptu press conference Sunday afternoon, the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star signed autographs and answered questions with the dozens of people who stopped by to get a look at the family.

Although he mainly told the group that they would have to watch the show, when asked where his noticeably absent wife, Kate, was, he replied,
"I have no idea."
Jon, who spent the afternoon sitting on a lawn chair while his kids -- Cara, Mady, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel -- played on a slip-and-slide toy, also said he no longer goes clubbing at night...

Okay, one more time. WHY are the kids playing on a slip-n-slide in a visible to the public part of the lawn when they have an in ground pool behind the house? I thought they were tired of the gawkers? Okay maybe they don't want to swim, they want to slip and slide; take it to the back yard.

Jon, don't act like you don't know where your wife is; it just sounds bad.

I just assumed Madge, that you would have an in with the DMV and could check to see if it's registered to Jon.

If they lived in Kentucky, maybe. I'm not up on the DMV of Pennsylvania. I'm not even sure we refer to it as a DMV here. I mean, that's what it is, but I don't hear people talk about going to the DMV. We go to the clerk's office. LOL

I would bet a nickle (sorry, in case I'm wrong I need to hold on to my bigger bills) that if Jon donated his, the internet in general would think he did a great thing LOL. I would be surprised to find out that he did though..I"m thinking it's part of his new persona.

agreed that that's what would happen but personally wouldn't think it's a great thing and agreed.

Ok, thanks, so basically nothing much. I go over daily with my kids that they DON'T "hate" one another or other people. Such a harsh word.

There is supposed to be a one hour show tomorrow night with an "announcement".

So glad to see the people in "my" world aren't the only ones who feel this way.. :thumbsup2

Not only is it harsh, but I feel it's a very "threatening" word that shouldn't be tossed around lightly..

Could someone pm me tommrow with what happens on the show? If you piot it it will get lost in the postings. I have to be at a staff meeting and learn Concious displine......

I just finished watching Jons 30th birthday show where Kate pulled off a surprise trip for him to Key West. Wow what a difference a few years make. They seemed so happy, she seemed nice and normal no venom or strange things and Jon seemed dialed in and happy and complimentary of her and all was well. None of it seemed fake or for tv it seemed like they were there for each other.
It just makes what has come to happen that much sadder. I feel bad for both of them right now. This clearly isn't where they were or who they were a few years back.

And you know they don't give anything back, how? Because TLC has said this? Or just because they don't show it. You know she doesn't tithe, or give to charities, because the show doesn't show it? So, I assume no one on shows on TV gives to charities because we don't see it.
Have you ever sold anything that was a gift to you? On eBay, Craigs list, garage sale? Did you give the money from it to charity? Ever give something to the mission and take it off your income taxes, as a donation? It shouldn't matter how Kate got items she gave away. She didn't have to donate the money from them, but she did. I can't believe that she can't even get credit for what we know she has done LOL.
For the Ronald McDonald house, she wrote a check. I suppose that was TLC's checkbook?

I personally think it would be a shame if the crooked houses got donated. That's something the kids earned from being on the show and I don't regret one thing the kids get.

Ok, I'm going to say something that I KNOW will get me flamed! Why do the Gosselins have to give back? Does it make them bad people if they don't? Why should we tell others that they should give to charity? I'll also add that we have no idea what J&K may have given back, we only see them on the show. I just don't get this idea that they SHOULD be giving back because they're on TV. What about your favorite celebrity, shouldn't they be giving back too then? Don't get me wrong, I think it's wonderful when people do give (I've done this with my girls) but I don't think it's right to expect them to. Am I making sense? I hope that came across correctly!

ok ... I was gone for 48 hours and 13 pages have been posted!

ran across this (apologies if someone else shared this already):
http://www.babble.com.au/2009/06/22/update-jon-kate-not-divorcing-true-announcement-revealed/

I'm not sure about the house in NC, but other than that, I agree with this post about the future of JK8 (the show, not necessarily the marriage). I think they're going to give the appearance of a happy ending for the purposes of the show, but after Kate's new book is released and they've fulfilled this season's contract, I predict a split.

I hope they are going into counseling. Any counselor worth their degree should be able to show BOTH J&K where they are going wrong in this relationship. I think it could be a wonderful thing if they're both willing. I sure hope they don't televise it though. That would be t-a-c-k-y.

Maybe she has a TLC checking account that lets her write checks free will??

That would be crazy. What broadcasting company is going to give checks to write at free will? I find that really hard to believe.

A lot of people don't talk about what they give. I won't, but it doesn't mean I don't. I have no idea what or where any of my friends give. I'ts just not something we talk about. So who knows..maybe they give way more than any of us know.
If she and Jon are really interested in the cause, I hope they're doing a little more than what was on that particular episode..

Regardless of what the dictionary says, "hate" means something entirely different to me, my family, my fellow church goers, and many, many other people I know..
As for what you thought the word meant, I'm surprised that so many people you know have never looked the word up. Perhaps this is a good time to enlighten them..that when they intensely dislike someone, it's hate, and if you don't like the word hate, it's important that you (general you) look at what other words may be being used in it's place, that means the same. Maybe the world can be a better place, if they (general they) understand that. It is a defensive word but so is intense dislike. No matter which you use, I still have a hard time figuring out why people feel that intense dislike for someone they don't even know.

I completely agree, and you're correct we really have no idea if J&K do/give anything more to charity than what we see on tv, but then again it's really not our business, and I don't get why ppl. think they're horrible selfish ppl. if they don't do anymore than what we see. Sure it'd be great if they did (and they may, who knows) but it'd be great if a lot of ppl. did more, but I don't think ppl. sit around saying I'm some horribly selfish person because I don't "give enough." Could I give more to charity instead of taking my vacations to Disney?? Of course, but I don't, and I only have 2 kids to think about financially. I don't know, but I agree I don't think they should be criticized because some don't think they "give enough."

It is harsh..but it's harsh because of it's meaning, not the actual word. All words are just words, but their meanign can hurt. You can call a rose by any other name, but it's still a rose. You can call hate by any other name, but it's still hate. No point in sugar coating it. I can't think of one single person I intensly dislike/hate.

So glad to see the people in "my" world aren't the only ones who feel this way.. :thumbsup2

I just can't let this go. You are kidding/exagerating right? That's what hate would mean in your church? I'm pretty sure your church hated what happened to Christ..but I would hope they wouldn't want to kill the person who did it, or slowly torture them to death...would they? Or would they preach forgiveness?

To us it means something more along the lines of: "Given the opportunity I would kill Kate.. Slowly torture her to death.. Purposely run her down with my car.." Things along those lines.. That's why we never attach it to a "person" - nor are the children in our families allowed to do so.. It's just very, very offensive to us and crosses over into areas that we don't approve of..

Why don't you and C. Ann take this to PM? This discussion about hate has gone way beyond the tv show and is more about what you two believe and have varying opinions on.

Stop the debates before we get shut down please.

Sorry, you are right. The church part is beyond what we should be discussing, it was hard for me to let it go, and I should have.

The meaning of hate, though, I still see as pertinent to the discussion about Kate, since I was asked why I thought anyone hated Kate. But I put the meaning out there, from the dictionary, and now I'll drop it.

I'm not saying this as religious debate, but just add my two cents on the word "hate". We had this SAME discussion a LONG time ago on another thread (ha! I think it was about Tom Cruise) and some peopel took all sorts of offense to the word being used lightly and others tossed it around like it was just a word that meant they disliked something.

It is a "you say tom-ah-to , I say to-may-to " thing.

Religious people are usually going to take more offense to it. I remember explaining it to a person on that thread at that time, and I will explain it again here.

Disclaimer_ this is MY personal view. I don't care if you don't agree with me, I am just explaining how I and many people that are close to me view the word. I'm not preachin, just explainin....

As a Christian, I have been taught that God is Love. It says it in the Bible. "God is Love" God is in all things that are good. When you "love" something, it is all good. It is love. It is godly. God is in it. On the contrary, Hate is evil. Hate is the stuff that satan is about. It is the opposite of Love, and anything the opposite of Love is the opposite of God. So that is why many religious people will find it an extremely HARSH word, not to be used lightly or sometime not to be used at all.

I totally understand though that some people just see the word as a word that means "extreme dislike or aversion" and when I read it in their post, I keep that in mind, because they may not have my background with the word.

Now, I try not to use the word lightly, (I'm sure I do from time to time though, because I know I'm not perfect) But with all that said, I still have an extreme dislike and aversion to Kate. ;)

As for what you thought the word meant, I'm surprised that so many people you know have never looked the word up. Perhaps this is a good time to enlighten them..

When did I say that's what I (or anyone else I mentiioned) said I/they "thought" that's what the word meant? Simply because I said, "Regardless of the dictionary" - meaning nothing more than you were choosing to use the "gotta go by the book" definition and we choose to raise it to a much higher level than what is stated in the "dictionary"? I clearly stated that's how we "feel" about the word "hate".. Feel..

Why on earth would you assume these people don't have access to a dictionary and have never "looked the word up".. "Enlighten" them? You do realize that you are being downright insulting now - correct?

"Knowing" the definition of a word - and the way one feels about it are two entirely different things.. I can think of any number of words that have completely "innocuous" definitions - that for one reason or another, certain people find extremely offensive and choose not to include in their vocabulary..

That was the point I was trying to get across in a civil manner..

Having said that,, I will end this conversation about "hate" with you now because it's not in my best interests to continue on at this point.. In recent months I have learned an important lesson about remaining true to my own beliefs - rather than engaging in "head games" over an issue that has already been clearly explained.. It's not necessary (nor should it be) for me to repeat myself over and over.. Either you "get it" or you don't..

I don't choose to "hate" people - Kate & Jon included.. Those who choose to go by the "dictionary" are free to follow it "to the letter"....

I choose to stand by my beliefs..
