Well, if a policeman says that someone is fleecing churches, or whatever word he used, don't you think if that was a fact, there would be iminent arrests?

I don't think there will ever be any concrete proof to the allegations about what was happening at the churches. Too much time has passed, too much of the evidence is based on what people said or heard, as opposed to records keeping. I don't think we'll ever know the truth about those early speaking engagements (the love offerings, cash only for pictures, etc). No charges will be filed, IMO.

If a policeman says they are exploiting their children, and he knew that as fact, wouldn't you think he would call CPS? Etc to the other stuff he said.

Maybe he has called CPS. How would we know if he has or hasn't?

We don't know what the facts are, but he should if he is commenting on them. I'm not talking about what we are all saying (and I find it very interesting that we all see things so different), but a figure of authority (which is prob tougher for me to even say, since so many of our policeman are in jail. Many of the criminals had to be set loose, once the policeman used the evidence..ouch for our area) if it be a pastor or a policeman should keep their mouths shut (IMO) if they aren't giving facts. If it's just gossip, they are hurting people, and I don't feel that is right. Again, that is my opinion.

and the cop was giving his. LOL.

Yes he was. I agree..it was just his opinion. And because he's a cop, he is in the blogger's blog. And people will assume it's fact because of his authority.

He could have stated he has called CPS..after all he was anonymous, so no one would have been able to prove if he did or didn't.

I guess I shouldn't hold up policeman or pastors to any higher levels than all the other people on blogs and boards. Why do I say that? I'm back to that 15 minute thing again LOL.

One more note on church record keeping. Many of the churches she spoke at were Assembly of God churches and I do know a bit about their record keeping, as well as other churches.

Love offerings are not traditionally just handed to the speaker. They are called in and outs. They come in, are counted and a person is paid by check. The churches generally needs that 'proof' of payment. The bigger churches that are affiliated need it because their church generally pays their home church based on money raised. For instance, if our church gives 10% to the home church, our church giving is based on what we 'take in'. Money for speakers is money taken in. The smaller churches use the records to keep track of what comes in and out for their own budget meetings, and in case the IRS has questions. We often promise a certain amount and if the love offering doesn't cover it, it comes out of our regular church giving. We have our books (as do other churches) gone over by an accountant regulary, that is not attached to our church.

We often have speakers..in fact we'll have one today. Regular payments which are not love offerings are also paid by check. It's not like our speakers come in and we hand them a secret envelope to enable the speaker to not claim it on their income taxes.

I have no idea about 'cash for pictures' in churches. I had never heard about that until it was mentioned on this board. I did see when she got cash for her picture at the charity garage sale, the money was put in a container meant for charity.

This is not to be confused to the financial wizards of late who have found churches to be trusting people. Those are usually and often the members own money that the financial people have been taking.

Your church may vary, but that is how our church and most others handle stuff like this. We are under a lot of scrutiny, so most churches try to keep it where it's easy to trace. Kate is not the type of speaker we usually have in our church, but I do know for sure, if she insisted on cash for anything she wouldn't be speaking at our church.

Yes, she has been looking miserable..miserably sad, I thought. I have no idea how much she sits around. I've only seen a few pictures. I hope she's out sitting, to be with her kids while they play. If she wasn't, and the Nanny was, people wouldn't be happy with that. Why would you think she is bored home with her kids :confused3

The women goes from traveling week after week without her children promoting her book, etc.....we know Jon isn't around to babysit--obviously their is a nanny or other staff to watch the kids because of her mini trips to Starbucks, gas, etc....with 2 kids at the most being treated and the rest home! She just looks very unhappy. I think she knows her show is headed for the end and their is nothing she can do to save it. Without Jon in his role as husband and father is changing the dynamics of the family show! As past posters have said, they don't want to watch a single Kate dragging her 8 kids around doing stuff that normal families couldn't afford or wouldn't be allowed to do.
Nothing lasts forever and I think we will see that soon with this show!!!

LoraJ,

That's really obvious! You're right, too, if it had been the other guy, he would have been in the pic. Sure can tell the litle one wants those cameras to go away!

I was speaking more to the cash for pictures issue, and the impossible to prove things Kate & Jon have been rumored to have said and did during their speeches. specifically, how truthful they were about the state of their personal finances and the circumstances under which Jon was fired. Those are things that will NEVER be proven or disproven. Water under the bridge, IMO.

As for records keeping, any church I've ever been part of (which isn't many, LOL) does things as you describe.

the first thing I thought of was Kate told her to hide her face.

Just saw the rest of the pics. I agree with your assessment. poor thing :(

Ok....once again I am going OT.....but I just had to share...

My DD's are in DISNEYLAND PARIS RIGHT NOW!! They went to Germany to visit their dad...I am so jealous....not that I want to see their icky dad, but I would like to be in Paris!!

If she was talking to them now and saying they were broke, I would. agree..not good. In the begining, I assume they had a lot of bills. Either way, as you said water under the bridge.

That's what I was thinking too, that Alexis or Leah (I know it wasn't Hannah since her hair is so long) was hiding. I'd bet Kate told her to bury her little head in her shoulder. That would drive me crazy, having the paps trying to snap pictures when I'm going anywhere. I think that if it were me, I'd keep my little ones at home and do my errands alone. Of course that isn't fair to the kids but they certainly don't deserve to be hounded when they go with their Mom. What a weird situation to be in (for the kids). :sad2:

I kind of say the same thing about the Duggars. :rolleyes1

You and 95% of the CB! Honestly, a Dugger thread here always took a beating. I feel like they were one of the most misunderstood families ever. I could never get the nastiness that would come out about them but it was pretty doggone bad (not that you feel that way about them, Michelle).

Their lifestyle isn't for me for sure (although I do homeschool). I only have 1 chiild and that's plenty for me. The thing I misunderstood the most was Michelle's bangs. :scared:;)

Of course, suddenly the Duggers don't get quite the reaction here they once did.:goodvibes

I think the Duggar's are happy, and their children are beautiful, but omg...enough is enough Michelle...stop having babies!! I'm hoping she just enjoys being a Grandma now....she's my age and I can't imagine having a baby at this age!! :scared1:

I agree, I think they are happy and have been lucky that all their kids are healthy. Their children are beautiful and I'm curious how they'll turn out, my guess would be that they'll do well. I can't imagine having that many kids!:scared1: When DH and I were newly married, we said we wanted 6! Now we're happy as clams with only 3. :goodvibes Still for as much criticism as the Duggars have received (yes Buckalew I read those crazy Duggar threads too!) they seem to have a great handle on their life, marriage and their kids. There's something to be said for being debt free too and paying for things outright. Kind of a nice dream...:goodvibes

Ok...so I should start by saying that I haven't watched any of the new episodes this season. I have them on DVR, but I can't bring myself to sit down and watch them because of all the stuff that is going on.

It's at the point with me that the only people that I'm willing to believe almost anything they say is Jon or Kate. They are the only ones that know exactly what is going on.

I flipped through the magazine with the article about how they are being asked to leave their church. I can see how this is bringing a lot of bad publicity to the church, but how can "Christians" turn their back on a couple that obviously needs all the help they can get? :sad2:

I love the show and especially the kids, but I think it needs to quietly disappear so Jon and Kate can either work things out or get a divorce. It's just sad because when you look back at how happy they were during their vow renewal in Hawaii or when they said they could never get divorced because Jon wouldn't be able to afford the child support for 8 kids.... :confused3 :sad1:

Wait, I have not heard this. Is the link here on the boards? What magazine?
