Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

This doesn't really have anything to do with recent events, but I'm so curious as to why they decided to stay in Pennslyvania. Kate mentioned more than once she would love to move somewhere warmer. They looked at houses in Virginia and North Carolina, neither seemed to mind the idea of moving more south and out of Pennsylvania, but they wound up in Berks County. And just in a nosy way I wonder what the reasoning was.

I thought I had read it was to be closer to the production company? :confused3 They might not be able to move too far due to their contract(s).

Figure 8 films is located somewhere in the triangle area of NC (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill).

I'm not sure about her saying one thing and then another (treadmill/morning)

I'm not a morning person either. However, my treadmill is my early morning friend also. Still, I would say, "I'm not a morning person."

That was a very good article, when I first clicked on it I saw the photo of the author and thought, wow Steve spoke, lol.
It made me think of 2 things I was taught and do believe.
#1. Watch out what you ask for you just might get it.
#2. Be careful who you step on, on your way up the ladder. You'll probably be seeing them again on your way down.

I thought Kate was not a morning person????

maybe this is the only time she can get her workout in with 8 kids. or maybe she started when her and jon started to have problems and it was/is how she coped/copes. :confused3

there was at least one episode where Jon explained the morning routine -- where he was the one that got up before work (this was when he was working outside the home) and got things ready for the kids, fixed Kate's coffee, etc. every day because she wasn't a morning person. Kate agreed.

Hasn't reality t.v. learned? Now Octo-mom will have her own show. :( http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090531/ap_on_re_us/us_octuplets.

produced by 3Ball productions, http://www.3ballproductions.com/about.html.
“Her television program will not be like the Jon and Kate Plus 8 show,” said Czech. "[Nadya] is looking forward to providing her side of the story."

Above is a quote from Nadya Sulman's attorney, clearly she will be distancing herself from the controversy surrounding Jon and Kate.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Kind of off topic, but I know we've brought up the Dionne quintuplets before. They were five identical girls born in Canada who were exploited by their caretakers -- their playtime was put on display for tourists to pay to watch, their images were used to sell products, they were dragged here, there and everywhere for appearances. They became global "celebrities," (without ever having any say in the matter.) Everyone knew who they were and they later wrote bitterly about how this negatively impacted their lives. Many, many people got rich off these children -- the children themselves went on to live rather sad lives.

When the McCaughey multiples were born, the three remaining Dionne quints sent this letter to the parents. I just recently came across it.:

"Dear Bobbi and Kenny,

If we emerge momentarily from the privacy we have sought all our adult lives, it is only to send a message to the McCaughey family. We three would like you to know we feel a natural affinity and tenderness for your children. We hope your children receive more respect than we did. Their fate should be no different from that of other children. Multiple births should not be confused with entertainment, nor should they be an opportunity to sell products.

Our lives have been ruined by the exploitation we suffered at the hands of the government of Ontario, our place of birth. We were displayed as a curiosity three times a day for millions of tourists. To this day we receive letters from all over the world. To all those who have expressed their support in light of the abuse we have endured, we say thank you. And to those who would seek to exploit the growing fame of these children, we say beware.

We sincerely hope a lesson will be learned from examining how our lives were forever altered by our childhood experience.
If this letter changes the course of events for these newborns, then perhaps our lives will have served a higher purpose.

Sincerely, Annette, Cecile and Yvonne Dionne"

I just think these are powerful words from people who have "been there and done that." Do Jon & Kate not worry about how this is going to impact their kids -- like it did the Dionne kids? Or that perhaps the kids are going to someday resent how their parents marketed them? I mean, "Eight Little Faces?" There is nothing in that book but the children's photos and a few Bible verses. The family is literally making money off of their images.

'Jon & Kate Plus 8' = a waste of time

"Are you keeping up with this Jon and Kate thing?" my colleague asked.

No, I said.

"Everyone's talking about it. It's huge!"

Huge is not the same as important.

"But it's a reality show!"

Particularly true with reality shows.

"You gotta watch! It's unbelievable!"

No. Sadly. It's very believable. Reality TV has now done what we once feared robots would do. It has created its own world, with its own rules, and now is infecting the very society that created it.

Take Jon and Kate Gosselin, a Pennsylvania couple who tried fertility treatments, had twins, tried again, and had sextuplets. They soon become the center of a TV reality show that followed their harried lives. The show, "Jon & Kate Plus 8," is now in its fifth season and is bigger than ever.

"Huge!" as my colleague says.

However, it is huge because the couple is fighting, the husband is suspected of having an affair, the wife is suspected of wanting to have one, and -- gasp! -- who knows? Maybe they'll split up! There's so much tension! Not surprisingly, they are all over the gossip magazine covers.

"This is certainly not what I envisioned I was signing up for," Kate recently lamented during a public appearance in Muskegon. "It amazes me there is an industry that follows you around and writes stories about you."

Exploiting the children

Now, forget for a moment, the sheer audacity of a woman whose family gets paid, reportedly, $75,000 an episode to let cameras follow them around all day, to act surprised that gossip magazines follow her around as well.

What did she think? They were making home movies? The fact that she, her husband and pretty much anyone else on a reality show quickly morphs from "normal" looking people to better-coiffed, better-dressed, better-made-up people tells you they are all for being followed around. It is, in fact, their job to be followed around.

They could always quit, you know.

But they don't. And so I can't really engage in conversation over whether Kate or Jon is the wronged party. Or which is a worse parent. Or whether I feel sorry for all those kids, who sometimes use the words "p-people" to describe paparazzi. (Personally, I would have those children removed from the home; five years in front of TV cameras is, to me, reckless endangerment.)

But I can't give the subject real time, because it's not a real subject. These are not real problems. Signing up for a TV show, then complaining that the cameras are ruining your life is not a real issue. It's like dressing up as Cinderella and then complaining that everyone wants you to try on slippers.

The world of faux reality

Take the case of Susan Boyle, the dowdy volunteer church worker who wowed the judges during auditions of "Britain's Got Talent." She has grown so famous that recent reports had her cursing at photographers who wouldn't leave her alone.

Or Adam Lambert, the eye-shadowed "American Idol" favorite who was upset in the final round and now has his sexuality questioned as the reason he lost.

I may empathize with these people, but I don't feel sorry for them. No one put a gun to their heads. Once you turn your life over to the cameras, you move into a Bizzaro World of attention. You are -- whether you realize it or not -- getting what you wanted.

The same can't be said of laid-off autoworkers, young widowed mothers, abandoned children or unable-to-find-a-job graduates. They live in the real world. And you'll excuse me if that reality renders the reality TV world pathetic.

So color me clueless. But count me out. A penny for your thoughts has turned to dollars for your privacy, but you couldn't give me a million bucks to make my daily life a conversation about publicity vampires like Jon and Kate. They may draw attention like a train wreck. But unlike the train, they brought it upon themselves.

I think Kate looks great in those pics and yrs I do believe she had a **** job, I have had one big woop, not everyone that gets one goes for DD, I specifcally told my plastic surgeon I wanted to be bigger but not the girl everyone in the room pointed to and said she had a **** job. No one really knows unless I tell them.

Yes, I agree but just because that was the way it WAS doesn't mean it is that way now. 6 months agao I didn't get up and jump on the treadmill either. I think we can take one look at Kate and see she is exercising somewhere, sometime. You just don't wake up one day and look like she does--tummy tuck or not.

That's all I'm suggesting. Man, y'all don't seem to understand that things change in people's lives. I think at one time Jon was really into his family and kate. Not so much anymore. Things change. Kate keeps saying everything is "for the kids" (and well, he does too but we know that is not true either). I don't think everything Kate does is for the kids anymore. I think that has been their pat answer and they have continued to give it but the reality is, they aren't fooling anyone anymore.
It sounds good (for the kids...) but it really does not appear to be truth.

I wouldn't quite call that coffee though. It was half milk, half coffee with an absurd amount of sugar thrown in :lmao: Oh and at one point in time she had a post it on the wall so Jon wouldn't forget how to make that horrible mess.

:rotfl2: Exactly how I drink mine!! I saw hers in a clear glass mug yesterday while watching tivoed episodes and I couldn't believe her coffeee looked just like mine. I call my *horrible mess* "Candy in a cup" (actually Madame Leona here on the DIS named it!!) Chocolate coffee and vanilla caramel creamer with 3 splendas thrown in! Luckily I don't have to have a cup everyday anymore. kate drinks a lot of coffee--or at least used to.

She told Oprah that she gets up and runs on the treadmill for an hour every day at 5 in the morning.

I also think she looks good and if you look at her on the earlier episodes she is not as well endowed as she is now. If I had the money I would do the same thing.:thumbsup2

This coming from the woman who couldn't get up until what was it 8:00 or was it 9:00 when her kids were babies??? :confused3

That's just wrong on so many levels. :rotfl: I like my nice Kona coffee with a splash of fat free half and half. I cannot even stand any bit of sweetness in my coffee(and I like my sweet stuff) but 3 splendas?!?!? :scared1:

I am a coffee freak - I have 4-6 cups a day.

I just watched the segment on GMA that talked about the complaint to the PA labor board. Personally I think it is ridiculous, however; WHY DID NO ONE CARE UNTIL PAPRAZZI CAUGHT JOHN WITH A YOUNGER GIRL? That really drives me crazy! No one questioned very much, the Gosling's were not even followed by paparazzi until the Jon cheating scandal broke! Yes there were always critics but this seems to have gotten out of control. I can see why Kate is so angry; I wouldn't want America telling me how I was supporting my family was wrong. Whether our not you agree with them at some level it is none of our business. If you don't like it don't watch- the show will be cancelled! :headache:

I remember seeing that sign posted in there kitchen of the first house. At first I thought it was for Jon and I though how stupid, I'm sure your husband knows how you take your coffee. Then I was recently thinking after reading this thread and everything article that gets posted here, that it was for all the volunteers that came through the house. 'Cause I just get the feeling that Kate felt like they were there to surve her and not "help" But that is just my opinion.
