I just watched the segment on GMA that talked about the complaint to the PA labor board. Personally I think it is ridiculous, however; zWHY DID NO ONE CARE UNTIL PAPRAZZI CAUGHT JOHN WITH A YOUNGER GIRL? That really drives me cray! No one questioned very much, the Gosling's were not even followed by paparazzi until the Jon cheating scandal broke! Yes there were always critics but this seems to have gotten out of control. I can see why Kate is so angry; I wouldn't want America telling me how I was supporting my family was wrong. Whether our not you agree with them at some level it is none of our business. If you don't like it don't watch- the show will be cancelled!

How do you know no one cared until the pictures of Jon surfaced??? I think people did it just didn't get much air time because the main stream news couldn't care less about what was going on with the Gosselin's

Actually there were a lot of people on the web caring about the children and their welfare before the Jon scandal. The mainstream media just didn't pick it up until it was in the magazines.

Once again, Kate made it our business by putting her life on TV. If you put it out there you are going to have people who agree and disagree with how you are doing things. She has to take the good with the bad. Just another reason I would never do a reality show. I don't want people judging me on how I do things with my kids, my husband, or my finances. You can't bring cameras into your life and make everything public (including your child's potty habits) and then say that they have no privacy. It is of their own doing.

That's just wrong on so many levels. I like my nice Kona coffee with a splash of fat free half and half. I cannot even stand any bit of sweetness in my coffee(and I like my sweet stuff) but 3 splendas?!?!?

I am a coffee freak - I have 4-6 cups a day.

Well, the truth is that you like coffee and I think I don't. So, I doctor it up and then like it plus i get a sugar type high all at the same time!

Anyway, my DH probably couldn't make a "cup of candy" to save his soul! And we've been married 22 years!

Ok......I had a dream this morning that I was hanging out with J&K and the tups.! I was helping Jon trim the hedges (maybe because that's all I have been doing lately??) Then the puppy woke me up from that dream and I went back to sleep a few minutes later. Then I had ANOTHER J&K dream where I was telling Kate about the fact that I had a J&K dream.

Yes, I agree but just because that was the way it WAS doesn't mean it is that way now. 6 months agao I didn't get up and jump on the treadmill either. I think we can take one look at Kate and see she is exercising somewhere, sometime. You just don't wake up one day and look like she does--tummy tuck or not.

Kate keeps saying everything is "for the kids" (and well, he does too but we know that is not true either). I don't think everything Kate does is for the kids anymore. I think that has been their pat answer and they have continued to give it but the reality is, they aren't fooling anyone anymore.
It sounds good (for the kids...) but it really does not appear to be truth.

I'm sure she's working out somewhere...that I do agree with.

I think we all understand that people change - we've been discussing how the Gosselins change on this thread for quite some time (and I jumped in around the middle) so I think that's well understood aside from people in our "real lives" that we know change as well.

Question - how do you know Jon doesn't do things for the kids even though he says he does? The bolded comment above just really stuck out to me this morning.

Of course people cared before. Like I said above, this thread on the DIS has been going on for quite some time - long before the pictures ever surfaced. This is not a new "fascination" with the family. I'm sure they're getting much more media attention now because of the pictures but also because of TLC's season premire, of which J&K are producers.

Once again, Kate made it our business by putting her life on TV. If you put it out there you are going to have people who agree and disagree with how you are doing things. You can't bring cameras into your life and make everything public (including your child's potty habits) and then say that they have no privacy. It is of their own doing.

part of the problem with having your life documented 24/7 .. it's easy to go back to the videotape and see where someone said ______. SO much of Jon and Kate's life has changed. for better or for worse, they've said something in one episode, only to contradict it later. and there's always going to be a person that has it on tape or bookmarked that they said or did something different. and I mean that for both sides of the discussion, not just the bad stuff.

I think that part of what the viewers of the show have struggled with is how quickly Kate and Jon have changed. They have become shells of their former selves. Fans don't "know" them anymore, can't relate to them anymore .. the recent behavior doesn't make sense because it isn't something the old Jon and Kate would do. And of course, the anti-fans use this to their advantage, ready to point out any and all inconsistencies with their story.

it's unrealistic to expect that Jon and Kate wouldn't change, but in some aspects, they've changed so drastically it's hard to keep up.

the criticism of Jon and Kate Gosselin started long before February. it's been going on at least a year.

Jon was helpful in the first dream, but in the second dream he was just on the phone and wouldn't help me or Kate do anything!!

I think it can only be a good thing that authorites are looking into if their is a child labor infringement. If their isn't, then fine, no harm done, people can rest that the children were looked out for. If they are found to be going against child labor laws, than thank goodness, someone will look out for the kids even though their own parents won't.

I think there is a misconception fo what "child labor" encompasses. The kids don't actually have to be doing hard "labor" to be working. If they are doing anything to earn a living or money it is child labor. Money is being put in the parents hands because the kids are being followed by cameras and microphones for most of the week. The only reason any money is being made is because of the kids. In my book, thats child labor. Kajillions of hours of it every week, to the point the kids don't even know what their reality is. Yeah they are just playing etc, but still, they don't have any choice if the camera man is there or not. It is forced on them. They don't even know any different.

It is really sick that anyone could build her own story up and believe it has to continue because she needs to support her kids. Puh-lease, my three friends whose husbands just were laid off needed their husbands jobs to continue to support their families. But guess what? They still ended. Nothing is a guarantee in life.

I sure hope Kate has been saving, because she may just need to move back to the smaller house and work as a nurse while the kids are in school. Oh, horror of horrors! Wouldn't that just be beneath her?

So I took the Becki Dilley book out of the library and have been reading it. Noticing a lot of similarities between the Dilleys and the Gosslins.

1.) Both took a Florida vacation just before conceiving the sextuplets.
2.) Both Moms are nurses.
3.) Both Dads are duds in the employment department.
4.) Both had a parent on the Dad's side die just after having the sextuplets.


The difference between the 2 families

- independence of the Dilleys. Within months of the children being born the father stayed home with the kids ALL BY HIMSELF. If you read Kate Gosselin's book she was not only getting a state health nurse in but had a ton of volunteers. The Dilleys did not.

I'm very surprised that Indiana did not provide more support in the form of a home care worker. Shocked actually. I know of families who have triplets in Canada receiving home care for the first little while.

I've been thinking the same thing. My DH who considers himself to be a pretty good guesser at that sort of thing rotfl thinks so too!

No kidding. I'm still baffled that Kate is so amazed by papparazzi. She (and the whole family now) are celebrities. They're newsworthy so the paps will follow. That's why I just don't get why she doesn't keep them out of spotlight. She complains that they're following her, isn't that what the TLC cameras are doing anyway? I totally agree with what you're saying. Having most of your kids lives filmed for entertainment and then complain you have no privacy? She and Jon created that life for their kids and now they complain. I wonder how many hours of their little lives have been filmed? My guess would be too many. And yes, if you put yourself out there (as Kate likes to say) then people are going to criticize. Right now she's getting that message loud and clear (tabloids, paps and now investigation by PA labor) and still they are filming. It's just weird.

I would be totally shocked if this is the first complaint filed with the PA Labor board. It may be the first one that is being reported in the media, but this is season 5 of this show and people have been complaining about the kids working and the labor laws LONG before Jon got caught with the teacher. I'm sure there have been reports made to DCFS and the Labor Board before this one.

TLC is not some new little production company though, they have lawyers and I'm sure they are working with in any current law or rules, maybe the law isn't good enough, but you can bet TLC knows whatever rules do exsist and it abiding by them. This complaint won't come to anything.

What is funny, or sad, or ironic (however you look at it) is that she is getting a dose of what the kids must feel with the TLC cameras. They have no control, no choice and don't get paid any money. Seems Kate doesn't like the taste of her own medicine.

I just heard a quote, totally unrelated to the Gossilins, but it applies. "Being in the spotlight is totally different than being under a microscope."

When they started this whole thing they were a family, a family in unusual circumstances. They loved the perks and they probably loved the spotlight. How could they have guessed they would change so much that they became a wealthy family on the brink of divorce. And no one can imagine what it's like to live under a microscope with everyday activities being hyperanalyzed by MILLIONS of total strangers.

Look at Susan Boyle this morning. She's in a mental hospital because it was just way too hard to go from a Scottish cat-loving woman to a Superstar who is followed around constantly by cameras. Now you can say, "She is the one who went on America's Got Talent, surely she should know." But how can you really? I can't imagine what it would be like, but I would love for someone to give me free stuff.

That's interesting, I suppose it is like a taste of her own medicine since she doesn't get to choose whether or not she wants the paps in her face taking pictures, etc. I really wonder what the kids think about the show...I remember Mady's no camera sign on her door and wonder how many of the others feel that way?

As far as editing goes, Kate said on Larry King Live that TLC does the editing and that she has no control over it unless it pertains to the kids and is something she's not comfortable with. That made me wonder if she and Jon view the completed footage before it's aired? If so, how can she have been OK with all her little kids vomiting and laying on the floor sick or the time Jon had to help Collin "manually" with his constipation? Or how about the numerous times poor Mady has had a meltdown? I just can't imagine allowing my kids to be filmed like that.

And I'm going to say again, J&K are making a lot of $ per episode in a time where people are losing their jobs, houses, healthcare, etc. Seriously in one maybe 2 episodes they make more than most people make in an entire year. It's just ridiculous to me that we should feel like they NEED the show in order to live. If they couldn't afford the new house (which I think they could) then why buy it? Speaking of the new house, it was purchased by their lawyer so you know that the house is most likely in J&K's corporation's name. Kate is no fool and I'm sure researched the ins and outs of setting up a corporation and what they can get from it.

I caught the end of one of the shows today, the one where the get the dogs, and I saw all the younger kids in highchairs but Hannah. Now isn't she the favorite one? I know I am reading more into it but it just seems odd to me that she is the only younger kid that can sit in a regular chair.
