The only downfall to 40 shows for Jon and Kate. Is I hope they won't have to cut other season of other shows

This article says Jodi and Kevin were NOT paid for their appearance on the Early Show but it's not 100% clear who's telling the author of the article there was no payment. I personally read it that the "morning show" told whoever put out the article that there was no payment to have them on the show. I bolded the parts relating to the payment.

We'll say this for the disgruntled brother of Jon Gosselin's alleged mistress: At least he ratted out his sister free of charge.

But when it comes to the Jon & Kate Plus 8 clan's own family, prepare to open the checkbook.

E! News has learned that as recently as this morning, Kate Gosselin's brother Kevin Kreider has been shopping his tell-all take on the situation to media outlets for $30,000.

Ironically, Kreider—unsurprisingly estranged from sis Kate—appeared today on CBS' Early Show with his equally outraged and camera-ready wife, Jodi, complaining that the strained reality couple's eight children were being "exploited" and treated as "a commodity."

The Kreiders, on the other hand, insist they're now coming forward not just to fill their bank account, but out of concern for the kids.

"We're speaking out now because we want to be the voice of our nieces and nephews," Kevin told the morning show, which in turn told E! News there was "no payment at all" exchanged for the sit-down.

"We're seeing it turn tide, that they're being viewed as a commodity."

The Kreiders claim that the TLC show, which set a new ratings record with its fifth season premiere Monday night and with which the Kreiders themselves were once on-camera participants, started off innocently enough.

"It quickly turned into more and more demands of Jon and Kate from the network," Jodi said. "There were cameras in the children's bedrooms at one point. And they were filming all year round. These were very huge concerns for us.

"They're being exploited," she said of the twins and sextuplets. "There are signs already…They would say, 'Aunt Jodi, I don't like the cameras on every vacation with us. I don't like them.'

"You know, kids have bad times, bad moments, they cry—and having the camera zoom in on a crying child, I mean, this is just—this should not be a form of entertainment."

As for Kevin, he claims that he has spoken with his sister and brother-in-law but admits that "our relationship has definitely been strained now."

"We haven't seen the kids in a while, which is hard…What we hope is that they will kind of come around, see the effects, see what's most important."

No immediate word from CBS News on whether it shelled out for the Kreiders' account.

Meanwhile, TLC confirmed this morning that the show's fifth season will run for a monster 40 episodes, double the typical order.

Jon and Kate Gosselin may be heading for splitsville, but even a divorce wouldn’t squash their lucrative reality TV show careers.

New York Reality TV School founder Robert Galinksy - who is coming to the Hub next week - says a divorce has the makings of the “perfect spinoff.”

“You get two-for-one here,” says Galinsky, who has trained the likes of Angel Chang of Bravo TV’s “The Fashion Show” and Jorge Bendersky of Animal Planet’s “Groomer Has It.”

Both Jon and Kate have been accused of cheating - and the couple couldn’t hide their contempt for each other during Monday night’s ratings-bonanza, season five premiere of TLC’s “Jon & Kate Plus 8.”

Should the couple part ways, Galinsky says smart producers would follow Jon on his journey - and Kate on hers - and watch how the kids adapt.

“This is not sheer entertainment anymore,” he said. “It’s sort of a sociological, almost a documentary, at this point.”

“If it’s done tastefully, it could be a great experience for us to watch,” Galinsky added.

His advice for the duo?

“Continue to be completely honest and let us watch the true nature of a relationship as it evolves,” Galinksy said. “They can’t hide from the cameras.”

I don't know...if he wants to keep his "play money" and being "popular" or a "celebrity" I think he'd consider it if it had a more "fun" theme to the show - maybe not on TLC, more like Bravo or MTV I think. I could see him doing like a "Real Dads of PA" instead of "Real Housewives of ..." currently on Bravo. Now THAT would be something I would watch!

Maybe Kate didn't believe it as much at that point or everything wasn't as public at the very least. They did look much different sitting there with Mady between them!

ETA: The "no news is good news" comment....yes, I agree that's generally the case but you can't even call to check on your kids or tell them good night or that you love them??? This is a bit personal for me as DH was gone from 5 am Saturday morning until 7:30 Monday night over Memorial Day weekend without a phone call. Granted he sent some texts to me to ask how the boys were (ok 1 asking about the boys) but not so much as anything to say he loved them - let alone me. (maybe this is why I'm so "struck" with the J&K story) I couldn't imagine getting through a day (just thinking about it, I'm sitting here in tears just typing it) without seeing my boys let alone not talking to them at all. There are days I call them from my office (like 5 minutes from my house!) just to check in and see how they're doing and on occassion they'll call me to share "big news" (like the first time DS2 went potty on the potty!!). Now thankfully I've got a pretty flexable job that I can take/make personal calls and the organization I work for is VERY family oriented which also helps. I just couldn't imagine not hearing about their day and telling them that I love them....

That would be great if that's what everyone involved wants. We also have to remember this is before everything became public knowledge (according to the article) too so that might have an affect on how they were acting with/towards each other.

That's how I read the article. If I remember correctly, I think the Emeril one was as well. I think madge or someone posted something from Twitter around the end of the last season about taping the 100th episode long before anything was announced for this season so it's very possible that they've been taping for a few months and there would be episodes pre-instense media coverage.
