So I have a question/thought regarding Jodi/Kevin....

*If* they were in it for the money, why wouldn't they have just stayed in it for the free trips for their family helping out J&K on all of their outings? They'd still be getting the "free" trips and travel and camera time without having to do as much "work" as if they'd have their own show or whatever. Just something I thought about it.

I'm honestly kind of surprised that more hasn't "broke" as far as news since the season primere. I mean for pete sake's the lady who called 911 to say she and her daughter were kidnapped (and found at the GF at Disney none the less) has people coming out of the woodwork making the morning show rounds and it's only been a day or two....Either the "news" stations haven't put the effort in previously to track anyone down or people really don't want to make public comments about this family and that makes me wonder why.

I'm looking forward to the E! program on Friday - hopefully it's not the same rehashing of gossip that we here on the DIS are already experts on! :thumbsup2 I thought I'd read here that it was at 9 but tvguide.com is showing it's at 10:30.

Some people complain that the stars' marital troubles have become painful to watch, but despite (or because of) those troubles, the fifth-season premiere earned monster ratings.

"The show's ratings have grown consistently, as there has been interest in these real-life issues of this real-life family," TLC said in a statement to E! News. "We will continue to air as the interest continues, and the family wants to do it."

My guess TLC wasn't going to pay for them to go, Now my question for you when they got paid for this interview why didn't they give the money back and say no. We aren't doing this for money we are doing this for the kids. It just funny they were fine with the show when they were on it. I think the time is really convientent once again when Jon and Kate are big news. Kevin and Jodi wanna make sure they get there names out there. They could have came forward anytime. Why did the wait to now until the knew they could cash in, Or atleast get there names in the news.

PLEASE take this for what it's worth....I honestly have no way of confirming it but it's not familiar to me....

An Old Friend Of Jon’s (Not Kate’s) Speaks Up!
By Pete on May 28, 2009 in Career, Personal Stories

The year was 1995 (or maybe 1994. Those years were a blur to me) when I met my good friend Jon Gosselin at Denny’s, next to the Berkshire Mall!

He lived two blocks away, with his dad and brother Mark (who, by the way, has never made in into the show. I guess he didn’t fit into Kate’s mold of the “perfect” American Family, since he liked to get high with my brother Nick all the time) on State Hill Road in Wyomissing, PA, while I was up on Penn Ave. He always used to tell me that he wanted a big family just like mine (I’m number six out of twelve) and I would answer back, “Not if they’re mostly girls!” The reason for that remark: I have eight sisters (big headaches when I was a kid, I know)!

After a while, we started adding to our Denny’s gang, and sooner or later we were referred to as the “Super Six” (because we were called the six best looking guys in Reading, which wasn’t that hard [believe me]). I swear we didn’t make that up — it was pretty goofy if you ask me. There was Casey, Jason, Mike, (some idiot who crashed my Jetta, and wouldn’t pay for it … so I won’t mention his name), Jon and me!

We all sat through countless hours of diner squatting, breaking up my brother’s weird parties when my parents were away, buying crappy cars (Jon had this one small Subaru piece of crap that would shoot flames out the tailpipe every time he changed gears … it was hilarious) and taking many trips to nearby Philly to hang on both South and Dock Street (South Street Diner was where we wound up on those nights. I was crazy for the snapper soup).

This camaraderie followed for a few years, until it eventually had to end … like all good things do. So in September of 1997 (one month before Jon met Kate, I read) four of us moved to the Art Museum District of Philadelphia, while Casey went to the University of Minnesota, and Jon stayed at home to fulfill his destiny (if you want to call it that … man, I feel kind of sorry for him). Now, in all that time that I knew Jon, I would have to say that anyone talking crap on him should pretty much stop right now …

We always talked nonstop about getting rich and famous (VW turned down our convertible Jetta idea, but then later on produced the EOS. Let’s not get into that one … I’m still peed-off that I can’t legally do anything about it) and this is just what he did. I still don’t think it was a bad idea to get some college money for the kids, seeing as how they now have eight mouths to feed (I don’t think their original jobs could have cut it) and even though I don’t condone cheating, I could kind of see why he did it. In my mind, I don’t think Jon is the real problem that’s giving fodder to all the media-frenzied networks and grocery store rags … in my version, I blame Kate!

Last season ended with Jon saying that he didn’t want to do another season, but I think Kate’s greedy personality just ignored him (just like she always seems to do on the show). Here’s her game plan, as I see it … one more season, 15 more minutes, a lot more money, and a few more book deals (people, if you’re buying these ridiculous things [please tell me you’re not] to see what could possibly be stirring around in her shallow head, you need some help … try the self-help section next time). To Kate: I think it’s time to end the greed, because you’ll eventually have to look back on all of this and see how it tore your family apart. And let me add one more thing: there are ten of you now, not just you! Think about that!

People, this is a great example of where greed will take you, if you don’t reexamine things from time to time along your journey! I sincerely hope you have learned something from all of this (like never exploit your children for monetary gains, no matter how tempting the offers sound)!

Now, to any reporter who reads this: I am not interested in any interviews with you. I wouldn’t be caught dead in your trashy tabloid magazines, or phony “news” channels (I like my news real, thank you)!

40 episodes?!? Wow. I wish shows I actually watch on a regular basis had that many episodes a season.

I wonder if they just use more of the footage (that would've been on the floor in previous seasons) or if they tape more.

Our p.m. drive-time radio show hosts were talking about JK8 today, and they had it all wrong. I was tempted to give 'em a little ring and tell 'em to do their research.

How do you know they didn't???

Now my question for you when they got paid for this interview why didn't they give the money back and say no.

Maybe they did. I can't see their bank account (and don't want to) so I don't know that there's any unaccounted for money in there. I also don't know that the money wasn't donated to something they find important or put up for the kids when they're older to have (J&K's kids). I also don't know that they haven't been hit by the economy and very much needed the money (if they were paid). Too many unknowns (just like with everything else!). :goodvibes

I wondered the same things and would LOVE Desperate Housewives to have that many episodes! :rotfl: It looks like the next two Mondays at least they're having two new episodes each week: http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/jon-kate-plus-8/tv-listings/287169

I've been tempted to do the same when people are talking about. On the rare occassion that I do speak up, it's generally the kind of person who already has their mind made up and won't listen to anything else. Ugh!

I laughed out loud when I read that. This guy's delusional if he thinks he should be paid for suggesting a car be a convertible. :rotfl:

Otherwise the article doesn't surprise me.

I wish that the drama shows I watch had that many episodes. Maybe I could finally figure out LOST then. :rotfl:

I bet we will have a few episodes of "cutting room floor" or whatever they call it.

Isn't it tempting to correct people when they talk about J&K.

Watch out for the Christian talk... you're teetering on a religious conversation.... Let's not talk about what is and what isn't Christian... lest we be closed!

I was going to say the same thing!

I think I can say, without crossing a line .. Jon and Kate have/had a huge following in the Christian community, for many reasons. The theme of her speech is relevant to that.

I wish Kate/Jon would come to a church around here. I think her story right now would reach alot of people. I think it would be great testimony
from what I understand, the speech has changed little in the time she's given it. every account I've read about her speaking engagements before and after the one I saw are nearly identical. which is fine, except it's not really relevant to what's happening in her life right now.. and that's all I can say without getting any churchier. LOL.

http://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyl..._viewers_care_about_the_gosselins_anyway.html

They don’t sing. They don’t dance. They’re not dropped off on some distant, deserted land to compete with one another for survival. So why do we love “Jon & Kate Plus 8” so much?

The show was a huge success even before the Gosselins’ marriage started to erode in the public eye, and Monday night’s season five premiere drew an audience of 9.8 million viewers -- the highest in the history of the TLC network.

“When people watch ‘Jon & Kate’ they feel better about their own lives,” says Dr. Debbie Magids, author of “All the Good Ones Are Taken” (St. Martin’s Press). “A lot of TV shows make people feel worse about their own lives since people on TV are happier and sexier and better able to work through their relationships. But with Jon and Kate, it’s what’s going on in everyone’s home. It’s not always perfect and smooth, and up to now, it was about a marriage that was making it.”

The couple’s highly publicized spats aren’t dimming our devotion to Gosselin family, Magids says, at least so far.

“With the new scandal, now there’s a wrench and it’s not working,” she says. “But affairs also happen in many homes. A lot of people are trying to get past an affair, whether it is physical or emotional cheating, because they want to work it out to keep the family together. They look at Jon and Kate and say, this is what it’s like for them and in many other households where people are struggling, too.”

Viewers can relate to the fact that the couple’s personality styles go against classical gender roles, says Dr. Paul Dobransky, director of www.womenshappiness.com.

“Kate is left brain, aggressive, outgoing and take-charge, while Jon is soft, kind and right brain,” he says. “Theoretically this should be a good match because they are opposites in nature, but the gender roles that they are fitting into don’t work for their personalities.”

Jon’s unusual role as the nurturer and Kate’s as a very powerful woman appeal to viewers, Dobransky says, and fans of the show can sympathize with the couple.

“When Kate makes fun of Jon’s hairline, it’s like making fun of a woman’s weight,” Dobransky says. “The guy has no job, no sources of feeling masculine. Cheating can help a man unconsciously try to recover a self-sense of being masculine. And Kate, meanwhile, wants to feel that she is treated like a lady and that she is very feminine. Jon is not able to do this as he is not working, and not very confident.”

K.P. Anderson, executive producer and head writer for E!'s “The Soup," says that many people follow “Jon & Kate” because they love to see how the kids are developing.

“As the kids are getting older, they are taking on personalities of their own,” he says. “There are a lot of people out there who like cute kids.”

At this point, though, the couple’s potential failure of a marriage is what’s drawing in large numbers of viewers, Anderson adds.

“At first people watched it from the angle of a news story because it’s interesting to see a show where people are taking care of eight children, and all the chaos,” Anderson says. “But now, as the ball of twine has unraveled, they are watching to see if they can watch a marriage fail.”

I was going to say the same thing!

I think I can say, without crossing a line .. Jon and Kate have/had a huge following in the Christian community, for many reasons. The theme of her speech is relevant to that.

I hate that silly rule lol

This just made me :rotfl2:

Wanda Sykes and her wife Alex welcomed twins earlier this month and the new mom opened up to Jay Leno Wednesday on "The Tonight Show" -- and she revealed where she picked up some helpful parenting strategies!

"I watched 'Jon & Kate Plus 8,' Sykes tells the talk-show-host. "I figured they have eight kids, I could get some tips from them."

Poor J Lo..

Jennifer Lopez and Skeletor….er…Marc Anthony were after their own reality show regime for over a year. Since the birth of their twins, TLC and the Lopez clan have been trying to work a tv show deal. “Jon and Kate Plus 8” trumped her chances for a reality show centering around how the J.Lo machine works. TLC wanted the Max and Emme air time while Mama Jen refused to let them put her kids on tv.

After a several stories of Jon being a slutty and having an affair ran rampant through the net and tabloids, a whopping 9.8 million viewers tuned in on Monday night to see how things were going down. This was reportedly the final nail in the Jennifer Lopez reality show coffin.

Via TMZ:

“TLC sources tell us it’s pretty clear the J.Lo ain’t gonna sell tickets anymore, so they have shelved the show. As one TLC source put it, “It was on life support for awhile, and now we’ve just lost interest.”

Oooo I bet Lopez is still livid. I bet she has a Kate voodoo doll complete with reverse mullet and backs her Bently over it nightly.

The only downfall to 40 shows for Jon and Kate. Is I hope they won't have to cut other season of other shows
