Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

Well if the cops were called then Kate is in a world of trouble. At least if they are like the cops around here.

OT a bit: It's my birthday and I'm laying around the house waiting for the bus to come and take me to Charm City Cakes to pick up my birthday cake "cause you know it's just tragic having to make your own cake. :lmao:

Well, some parents use a paddle or stick. DH used to have to go get his own hickory stick, I believe. I dated a guy whose mom left something like a wooden spoon or swatter on the fridge to whack them with. My mom used her hand and she spanked hard.

When I moved here teachers used a wooden paddle and then there were a few teachers who had holes drilled into their wooden paddle. It was quite a culture shock coming from NJ to TN because in NJ a teacher could not lay a hand on a student. Here, they'd paddle you in the middle of the classroom. Then, it moved out of the class to the hallway. I remember hearing the echos of the the paddle and the student. *shivers*

Anyway, we spanked some. And DD would always grab her bottom to protect even before the spank. Honestly, other things worked better than spanking but I also have a rule follower and a pleaser.

I think you can't win when you get into the spanking/no spanking arguement...if this thread goes there we will either only hear one side or it'll be all downhill from here.

Not around here--esp. if it is all on tape and one can see it is just a open handed spanking on her bottom. If they caught abuse on the tape it'd be a whole other story.

BTW, Happy Birthday! Hope your bus arrives shortly. If it doesn't, rip your DH a new one on TV!;)

agreed. I intentionally left my opinion out about spanking vs. not. I do not want to go there at all.

Happy Birthday! Have a great time at Charm City and don't forget to look surprised when the tour bus shows up in your driveway!:thumbsup2

Yup, I'm not touching that argument with a ten foot pole. It was pretty foolish for Kate though to do something like that in her front yard with photographers around. Sometimes it seems as if she's in her own world. Remember the Toys R Us episode where she was screaming for Jon? He was completely embarassed and her answer was that she didn't even notice people around, she said she never notices other people. :confused3

Thanks everyone! and :rotfl: I knew you guys would get me sick sense of humor!

I assume she wasn't beating the kid and she figured she had nothing to hide. Do others (who spank, not talking about if you should or shouldn't, cause that would prob get this thread closed) only spank when inside closed doors? I bet if she brought the child inside, there would be pictures of her doing so and then the caption would be, Kate yanks child inside and screams abound, so she must have been beating her.

I'm not saying whether she was right or wrong to do so outside. My point is simply that people are hyper-critical of her right now and are looking for any excuse to cause more drama for this family. It seems foolish in my opinion to spank your child and cause a scene when there are photographers camped outside your home.

there were other ways to handle that situation, even if the end result was a spanking. no need to have it played out in public.

This is a TV show. TLC wants to do a show on the kids and crooked houses. Maybe TLC paid for them, maybe they were donated. I don't care. I just want to see the kids have fun with them. The company can donate them if they wish for the placement value. That's what companies do. Maybe this company also donates to charities. I have no idea what one has to do with the other.

I assume the houses are going where they are going, because that is where the kids play..where there is a driveway to ride their various bikes/cars. Someone else on this thread said that area is pretty blocked in with trees, so maybe that is the best place for privacy. I don't live in the area, so I can't say if it's a good idea or a bad one. I just know that in my neighborhood, as I've said before, we have a ton of kids out front and parents sitting on the stoop watching them. Seldom do the kids play in their back yards. Even the basketball hoops are out on the street.

Thanks for pointing out its a TV show. If I didn't know better I would of thought it was a way on how to acquire free products and trips! Many posters have been commenting on how the Gosselin's get a lot of free stuff. This is just another example of someone advertising their product using this family. The problem is this family could afford to pay for these houses. There are a lot of charities who would love to raffle one of these houses off but they won't get the chance. So possibly TLC is paying for all this stuff for the Gosselin's but not for any of their other shows?? Who paid for Jon's $150,000 motorcycle or the scooter? When it was donated to the Ronald McDonald house she came right out and said the choppers made it to donate.
I have seen tons of kids out front playing while their parents sit on the stoop watching too--only not million dollar houses that have paparrazi recording their every move and have a giant private backyard.

What do you bet she got a call fro her lawyer and PR person!

I think 5 is too old for spanking but I also think 5 is too old for bibs and highchairs and sippy cups. :confused3

I'm hating Kate right now.

Again, why do they hang out in the front yard of that huge home when they know they are being photographed??? :confused3 They have a lot of land, use the backyard once in awhile.

Uh oh, I think I just answered my own question: Because they are being photographed.

1stluvispooh, Happy Birthday! :wizard:

Wow okay I just saw the clip with the water and it's really cruel. Maddy is asking for something before they are actually shooting, and kate asks for a bottle of water...it LOOKED like she was going to get it for maddy who just asked but then she takes a drink, then puts it down on the chair on the other side from where maddy was. It was almost like teasing her. Then asks to get the kids water after they are done. I don't get that, why can't she share with her child???

Here's the link: http://www.postchronicle.com/news/original/article_212237191.shtml

As a mother, I would have asked for water and then given the child a sip. Kate not only teased her daughter, but she is also sending a message to her that she (kate) is more important than her.

But they don't own 30 acre compounds with paparazzi after them I am assuming. The Gosselins have tons of places to have privacy if you look at the ariel shot of their property. The driveway side (front) of their house is adjacent to a main road. It is riduculous that they stay around front and then complain.

I may have to stay away from this one. but Kate's not very bright, is she!?

This is so true. She's got a million of them... contradictions, Kate-isms, general confusion.
How must they live their lives when no one is watching?

It is a TV show and like many many others has a lot of product placement. Just read the credits on the end of the other shows. I'm thinking the Duggers (who I do like) didn't pay for that trip where they announced the baby's sex. That is how these reality shows work. Much of the money is in the placements..the clothes the kids wear, the places they go while we watch. Not just J & K.

Maybe this place also donates to charity. Maybe this was their idea..that they wanted a placement for advertising. Maybe they thought this was a great way for them to get some exposure on their items, just like the other placements. What makes you think it TLC turned them down, they would then raffle off the houses for charity? Why should they?

I thought someone in the area said the front did have a lot of trees? Do we now know that the pap can't get the same or better access to the back of the house? So the back yard is private? I thought we didn't know that.

Why didn't she just wait in the car and have the bodyguard do it--oh wait, then how would the "p" people get a good shot at her.

Are you kidding? If she had remained seated in vehicle while the bodyguard put the gas in people would be screaming about that too. "Kate Gosselin is too good to put gas in her own car, she has to have her bodyguard do it".

But they don't own 30 acre compounds with paparazzi after them I am assuming. The Gosselins have tons of places to have privacy if you look at the ariel shot of their property.
I just don't know that. Apparently you do. If they went to the back, and the kids couldn't ride their bikes and little cars, someone would complain she was a bad mother. If they went to the back and the paparazzi then had a clear shot from an adjoining property, people would say the kids should only be inside. Doesn't matter what she does, she's wrong. She couldn't win no matter what she did. Someone who drove past the house said it was private where they played. Paparazzi can get pictures no matter where they were outside. For a TV star, who had to get married inside a tent to protect himself, they had helicopters and people with very long lenses all around the property in Arlington, VT (they landed their helicopters without permission in the field of a local campground where we were seasonals). IMO the fault is the paparazzi, not J & K.
They are like dogs with fangs..and they make it look (after taking a 100 shots) like the person wants their picture to be taken. I'm sure Lady Di would love to comment on that. Oh, that's right, she can't.

What do you bet she got a call fro her lawyer and PR person!

 No kidding! My guess would be that her PR person has her on speed dial. Maybe it's one of those phones (like the old school Batman show) where it lights up and blinks red when there's trouble!
