But you agree that you will not be able to form your own opinion of the actual shows, yes? And those are the little details this thread likes to beat to death.

Again, I'm wondering why/if you think gossiping on the internet is less exploitative than watching the show (neither of which I, personally, think is) since that was your original reason for not watching the show.

I bet there will be youtube links to click if I need to see a specific issue that is discussed here to form an opinion. By not watching the show, I am not part of the huge ratings that may keep them on the air. I think they should be off the air. Again, I enjoy discussing them here and hearing what others think. It really doesn't make much sense to me to watch a show I think should be taken off the air!

Debating here is not exploitative b/c it does not increase their ratings at TLC. I would never pay to hear Kate speak, I would never buy her books. It's the same thing by not watching, IMO. Btw, I have done the weekly nielson ratings booklets a few times.

Like I said, I've never seen her deny that Beth was a part of the book they wrote together in any of the interviews (when you saw her, she was still selling just the first book?). It would be pretty hard for her to tell a crowd that she is the solo writer, when the other names are on the cover. If she were giving a speech I could see that she would say, when I was writing the book..etc etc. She is considered one of the writers of the book, even if she didn't put pen to ink. There would have been no book without her.
Did she say that she wrote the book by herself (the one with Beth), or was she just talking about herself at the time, and there was no point to mentioning Beth? Until I hear Beth say, from her own lips that she felt that Kate was denying Beth helped write the book, I think it's just semantics (I think that is the right word I'm looking for.
I saw Kate in March, and at that time, only Multiple Blessings was available in stores. Kate was not at the church promoting the book as part of a book tour ...in the speaking engagement I attended, Kate referenced "my book" several times, and mentioned when she wrote the book a few times as well. With that said, Multiple Blessings was not a large focus of the speech.

How can Beth speak to things Kate has said in appearances she never attended?

This article has been shared before, but it's an interview with Beth about her involvement with Multiple Blessings:

"They lived it and I wrote it," she said.

I'm confused. How does my tivoing (is that a word?) sending anything to the sponsors or companies about my watching habbits? What I tivo goes on the hard drive of the box I have, and it sits there until I watch it or erase it. Is there more to it than that?
I can't imagine tivoing something gives them much info, because they don't know if you ever watched it.

edited to add - I found this on wiki, and if you believe it, you can have your cake and eat it too (watch and not be counted):

TiVo states that all usage data is currently aggregated by ZIP code and that they don't track individual viewing habits. In the United States, users can request that TiVo block the collection of Anonymous Viewing Information and Diagnostic Information from their TiVo DVR by calling 1-877-367-8486.

ITA, but the poster I was referring to said he/she wouldn't be watching the show because it exploited the kids and would "catch up here." What's the difference? If you want the dirt and discuss it on the internet, it's not a whole lot different than watching the show as far as "exploitation," IMO. In fact, it just makes you a less informed person (as far as the show) since, like you said, you can't think for yourself and form your own opinions. They'll all be based on second hand accounts.

I don't see how discussing the show is exploitation? :confused3

Hey, that's not very flattering to us on the thread here! :lmao:

Yes, I have seen that interview, and I even posted it the other day (I'm sure it's been posted a few times). It starts off at the title with :

Beth Carson of Leesport co-writes a memoir titled "Mutiple Blessings: Surviving to Thriving with Twins and Sextuplets" about the events surrounding the births of the Gosselin family's sextuplets.

I don't know if Beth has seen any of the interviews where Kate has said she wrote it, if so, I've never seen her protest that Kate was not part of the writing. I am familiar with "she lived it, I wrote it", said by Beth, however, no matter what Beth or Kate says, the book gives them both credit for writing it, and Kate seems to think she also wrote it..(again, as does the publisher, via the cover). It does not say, as told to, on the cover, as many books do.
I guess if I was at a speech given by either of them, I would not give it a second thought. Both names on the book, I assume they both had a part in the writing. It certainly wouldn't make me think either of them were liars for saying they wrote the book. Actually, I really don't care who actually put the words on paper. I thought the book was lovely, and I enjoyed it.

Just as an aside, since Kate had just written the second book, could she have been talking about that one, since MB was not a focus of the speech? Perhaps she had moved on. Just wondering.

So, only if the show has high ratings it's exploitative?

ETA: Also, in this day and age, internet tracking is just as important as ratings (if not more important since it's such a popular method of marketing and demographic research these days).

Obviously by not watching the show, the pp feels she's not supporting the exploitation of the family/kids. That's one less # on the ratings listing and if enough people do that, the show will lose it's status as TLC's highest rated show and ultimately will end.

no. the book signing (at a local high school, not part of the church event) that took place after the worship services was for Multiple Blessings. I don't recall if she even mentioned that a new book was coming.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this show won't ever be taken off the air as a result of ratings. The funny thing is, those who don't support the show are the ones keeping it in the public eye. They bring more attention to it via internet buzz (including threads like this, blogs, etc.), newspaper articles, letters to the editor, et al.

So are they friends with Beth still? Does Kate have any friends?
I don't know that she isn't. I have assumed Beth is her friends, since she hasn't come out and said otherwise..unless you know something I don't. I don't even know if anyone on this thread has any friends. I know them about as well as I know Kate LOL!

I assume if Kate has any real friends, she sure as heck is doing whatever she can to keep them a secret, so they don't end up fodder for the rags. I do see that when the rags take pics from far away at their house, they seem to have people visiting.

I do wonder if Kate is smart, and when possible, ignores the rag mags, the nasty blogs and emails. She knows what is true and what isn't, and maybe she doesn't think she needs to defend her every move. I can't wait until we all convene here tomorrow night, and if any of use will change our minds, one way or the other.

Now I am sucked into the marathon. :happytv:
I am mostly intrigued by the new show premiering tomorrow night "Cake Boss."
I drive by there all the time. I think they have been on Ace of Cakes or some Food Network show. I went last year to see what all the hoopla was about it got a cupcake and it really was not that great. Maybe I was there on an off day. :confused3

Anyway, Kate is totally the opposite of me with her being so OCD, but she still does not give me the reaction that so many have of her. But Jon drives me nuts. I saw the vow renewal episode and it made me sad.

I can't believe I missed all of Jon's remarks the first time I saw these shows. When he said what his fortune was, about something good being right next to him, Kate thought it was so nice, but then he made a remark that wasn't nice (she was next to him). That was just one..he made little digs all through this show. Was I so concentrated on the kids and Kate that I just didn't hear these things the first time I saw it? He also wasn't all that nice when Kate didn't realize that the Korean items he bought had ice cream in them and should have been in the freezer. He admitted she had only had the rice ones in the past. So why didn't he put them in the freezer, instead of making her feel bad?
He doesn't always talk that nice to the kids either..and he knows he's on TV. I have just found a couple of these shows very interesting. I always htought Kate was very acerbic to him, but I'm clearly seeing it is a two way street.

I hear ya!

I think the thing is most people on the blogs and threads, etc. are women. Women, moms especially, are sooooo hard on other women. I mean, we can complain about men, but when it comes to other women, we are so critical. When it comes to other moms (especially moms who don't do it "our way"), it's off the charts. That's why I think Kate gets the brunt of the criticism. I mean, look at what happened when people think Jon is cheating. Half the comments out there justify it because Kate is Kate.

I know! I was watching and noticing that Jon is just as rude as Kate. I'm sure most people are going to disagree and say that Kate is an evil woman and deserves all the rude remarks that poor Jon throws at her, but I think that's crap. They're both rude to each other, but in all honesty, I don't think they're as bad as people make them out to be. I'm sure not everyone here is perfectly sweet to their spouse. And these shows are being edited to make them more entertaining. And drama = entertainment.

I was watching some of the marathon on Saturday.

They showed one behind the scenes show where they were talking to J&K about how real the show is, etc.

At one point they were talking about all of the crew, how some of them had been there since the beginning, and how crowded it could get. They showed some shots of Kate telling them to get out of the room, it was too crowded, she hates the lights, etc. Jon was saying how he liked the crew in the house and talking to all of the people. Kind of ironic with what is now going on.

Regardless whether you like Kate or hate her, or whether you like Jon or hate him, I think everyone who is a fan of this show is hoping that they can somehow work it out and make their family work!

Oooh, I so agree with this. I don't understand why women are so mean to each other instead of building them up!:confused3

So many people have talked about Kate's tummy tuck but no mention is made of Jon's hair plugs.

And truly as a Mom of two, if someone offered me a free tummy tuck, I would jump on it!

So many people have talked about Kate's tummy tuck but no mention is made of Jon's hair plugs.

I think that Kate's tummy tuck was more necessary than Jon's hair plugs. Kate had 6 babies in her stomach at once. Jon just has bad genes.

Just out of curiosity, why does alexis sleep alone? Why doesn't she sleep with her sisters?
