Party with the Paparazzi
05/20/2009
Editor’s Note: Kate's blog was written on Saturday, May 16.

This morning I woke up after just three hours of sleep. I had gotten home long after midnight from my last speaking/book signing tour for quite awhile. I was happy to be at home with my kids who I have missed A LOT!

I realized it was Saturday and that today I had promised the kids they could go to the party store and help pick out decorations for their Backyardigan party on Sunday!!! So I hopped out of bed and started to feed breakfast, play outside with the kids and lay out their outfits for the trip. They were really excited to help and especially excited for their party.

Jon was unexpectedly away. We mistakenly got our wires crossed and I ended up having no help from our babysitter, so I decided I'd brave this adventure by myself!!! To be very honest, I wasn't sure how it would go. Due to the overwhelming popularity of our show, our kids haven't been in a store for quite some time. This was going to be A HUGE TREAT.... or a repeat of the Toys R Us episode. I wasn't sure which yet.

After lunch, we were finally all ready to go. As we departed for the store, five additional cars joined our crew and myself as I drove the big blue bus down the road. Had you passed us, you may have thought we were a funeral procession. But no, it was just me and my posse, I mean paparazzi, and crew.

Once we were pulled into the parking lot, I instructed the kids to unbuckle, which they did very well, before I opened the van door to let the monkeys out of the barrel. We all held hands and made a train into the store quietly and efficiently while flashes from the ever present (and did I mention maddening?) paparazzi flashed until I thought I had developed sudden glaucoma.

Whew! Once in the store, we were safe and free to have fun. The squeals of happiness and delight were beyond joyous as they all scrambled to choose things for their birthday party the next day. Alexis chose fluffy frogs for the pinata, Aaden chose a different variety of plastic frogs (one can never have too many frogs evidently), Hannah chose plastic cameras, Collin chose clear glow-in-the-dark lizards, Joel wanted to know if the frogs were candy. Cara chose plastic skateboards. Mady helped pick the candy, and I honestly forget what Leah chose...oops!

So, once our cart was brimming with delightful things to make any child go wild and any parent go berserk, we were off to the checkout. The kids were ready to redeem their 'prize' for good behavior (a balloon). We did so and were off.

The madhouse awaited us once we set foot (actually 18 feet) outside and each child willingly clutched the side of the cart for safety as we made our way back to the van. We loaded up all of our surprises, and our paparazzi and crew and road the train home.

Be sure to watch our season premiere on Monday, May 25th at 9/8c.

Oh boo hoo! Poor Kate would have to handle her children ALL BY HERSELF! Like John doesn't do it all the time while she's traveling all over. And I'm sure she expects that her babysitter should be able to do it by herself, but not Poor Kate. This woman is unbelievable. We have no money, but let's get pregnant with 8 kids, then expect the world to pay for everything because they owe me because I carried all these babies, but please, don't expect me to actually raise them or be able to handle them all. Again, sounds all very familiar -- very OctoMom-ish. I was once a big fan of this show and J&K, and thought the Duggars were crazy. Boy, was I wrong.

I didn't get that impression at all.....she was annoyed because their wires were crossed and she thought she would have help. I only have 2 kids and I get the same annoyance.....

she can't win with some people can she??

I guess the thing that stood out to me the most is that she complained about the paps the entire time. It's a TLC blog - how about you tell us about the kid's party or what you did for the weekend (aside from the shopping trip) or something. That's what stood out for me. Honestly, I think the whole "crossed wires" just meant "Jon wasnt' around and I'm trying to cover for him" and that's that. She also didn't mention that her bodyguard was with her so she wasn't "by herself"....something's just not sitting right about this with me. :confused3

Notes on the blog: give me a break. I bet Kate could sugarcoat poop if it made her money. Oh, that's right, she already did. (Remember the episode where she took pictures of the girls poop in the potty chair?)

My aunt had 7 and did it without any help from her husband or a babysitter. She also didn't get freebies, didn't have a sense of entitlement and didn't feel like the world owed her anything just because she gave birth to 7 kids. She didn't get free trips to Disney World or skiing (with free equipment included) or any of the other thousands of dollars worth of freebies this woman gets, simply because she gave birth. And basically that's what this all boils down to. I chose to give birth to many children, now pay me.

I'm sorry, but with me, this woman will always been selfish and self-centered. She wants to be the martyr but doesn't want to do the work, just wear the hat, KWIM? How can she talk about how hard it is raising 8 kids, when she doesn't because she's constantly traveling? How can she lecture about being a good Christian woman while who knows what is going on in her marriage that she's not even trying to fix? How can she lecture about marriage at all, when hers is obviously in the toilet? Who actually pays to hear this woman speak anyway? :confused3 It's like me giving a lecture on being a skinny, rich black man while I'm a middle income, fat, white woman. Then again, that's JMHO. :headache:

Sorry but I have very definite opinions about this and I tend to get a little riled up. No disrespect meant to any of the other posters. :flower3:

it almost sounds like she's going the same route as Princess Diana.... complaining about the paparazzi and all ... good way to gain public sympathy. I saw the blog as spin control for Kate, and nothing more.

I give her credit, though .. she's working hard to keep this thing in her favor.

When Beth and Jody were on the show they said that Beth and Jody acted kind of like protectors for the kids during filming - ie, let's take a break for lunch and film in the afternoon or the kids need a nap, or the kids need a break from working all morning. I believe this came directly from Jody when she spoke out on her sister's blog. She also mentioned that she wanted to stay on the show for that reason - to be somewhat of an advocate for the kids.

I think Kevin and Jody probably did one long interview (as others have also said) and radaronline decided to air it in chunks and now, after listening to the latest one it makes me think that they may also be repeating snippets from others that have already aired. Does anyone else get that feeling from the cuts and pauses and edits that they're inserting repeats? Maybe I've heard so much of this garbage I can't remember what I've heard or where!

Anyway, I may not agree with Kevin and Jody's method, but I think they did what they felt would get their concerns the attention they felt was needed. They both said they've discussed with J&K the things they said in their videos and I think they felt they'd tried all they knew to do and this was a last resort; hoping someone who could be advocates for the kids would take notice and help. I don't know why they felt it was necessary to bring marriage contracts, cheating, fighting, the show not being reality, etc into the conversation, but they did and they can't take it back. Perhaps they hoped people might see them as more credible in the end because they told the truth -- no one knows other than Kevin and Jody, J&K and production people and the innocent kids.

For a year people criticized Jody because she wouldn't speak out more about what happened with her and Beth. Now, K&Jody have spoken out and they're still criticized. In this situation, I don't think there are any winners and there are as many different opinions as there are different rumors.

As much as I'd like to believe J&K are in a committed, loving, Christian relationship and the kids haven't been affected negatively by the show or their parent's choices I don't think that's the case. I hope someone, somewhere can get J&K's attention and turn it towards strengthing their relationship (if that's what they want) and to raising happy, well adjusted, and healthy children. Since it appears the show is going to continue I'd like to see more 'real' Gosselin life rather than hiding people and things and activities from viewers. I wish TLC would make this a 'true' reality program showing their REAL lives - the changes that have taken place and how their lifes really are. Now, that interests me. I'm not interested in watching a planned show.

I'm sorry, but that was simply too much bs for me to stomach!
As others have stated, it's all about Kate, Kate, Kate and how difficult her life is. Poor, poor Kate. Having to fight off the papps, yet forgetting to mention she had 2 bodyguards with her as well as 2-4 crew members who help her anyway. I want to see 'real'. If they're going to tell us their sob story of how their lives have changed because of the show on Mon, then I want to see their real lives. The nannies, the cooks, the bodyguards, etc, etc.

If Kate or anyone else associated with show is going to continue to give the fans the 1/2 truths and fairytale stories like she wrote in the blog they may as well close up shop now. IMO she did more harm than good by wasting her time writing that mess. If she can't tell the whole truth about a situation it's better to not say anything at all. Don't mention Jon, it wasn't necessary. No need to tell us you only got 3 hrs sleep, we don't care. I'm sorry, but I wish she hadn't even written that bunch of garbage. Ugh.

So what will you tell them has transpired? What do you know that has transpired? That John is home with his children whle his wife is out working? That when he goes at night, and when the rag mags take pictures of him with another woman, the children are safe at home with a nanny? That Kate is out on a book tour and the paparazzi took her picture with her guard right behind her, and it looks like she is having an affair, and she dresses badly, and her haircut has too much attitude? Or that Kate's relatives who used to be on the show and stopped when they weren't getting paid enough (because $3300 for lights in their house is being paid) have now gone on radar and spoke about how bad it is for the kids, that Kate doesn't really cook all she says she does and someone else cleans the house, and Kate supposedly has a contract with her husband that he can have girlfriends? Oh, and they argue when off camera. We know that for a fact (not). Of course no one else argues around their children.
Or, that they had a birthday party in the park, and photo's were taken through the bushes with a high powered lense, oh, and the people invited had to pay, and the money was given to charity?

Yeah, that will make the sponsors pull right out.

I can tell from watching the show that these kids are really mistreated, Yep, I can tell they are not enjoying doing all of these special things, and it would be better for the 10 of them to move back into the small house, and sell the van, and have mom and dad be gone each and every day working full time. Prob even over time to feed this batch of kids. Oh, and argue even more, like some people do, over the lack of money. Yeah, that makes sense LOL.

I am certainly watching a different show, because that isn't what I see. I see a lot different in the rag mags about the parents (but have no way of knowing what is true and what isn't)..but even those mags don't say the kids are mistreated.

I couldn't have said it better myself!:thumbsup2
I wish everyone would stop feeling so very sorry for the kids....they have a good life as far as I can see...and their parents love them..of that Iam sure.
In a few years noone will remember them and they'll live the "normal" lives everyone so badly wants for them....but they'll have no worries about getting through college or starting out on adult life financially.

There are aLOT of american kids who need sympathy..who have no loving parents..who live in poverty....but everyones "heart is breaking" for the gosselins??;)

...and their parents love them..of that Iam sure.

how can you be sure?

if those of us who question can be called out on not knowing things for sure ... you can't be sure. I mean, they say they do .. but Jon and Kate have said a lot of things that aren't true.

Oh come on!...Really??...are you suggesting that they DON'T love their kids??:confused3

Say whatever you like about them...but they DO love their kids...I didn't even imagine that was in question. plus I think its pretty obvious:eek:

I didn't get that impression at all.....she was annoyed because their wires were crossed and she thought she would have help. I only have 2 kids and I get the same annoyance.....

ITA. I didn't get that impression either. I think she was just stating the facts of "the day" for her blog; although I'm curious about the Jon being unexpectedly away?? Could be 100% true, but still with everything going on, there's going to be speculation.

Without expressions online it's hard to see what any of us are saying without misunderstandings. I do see that Kate seems to be very good about making this roll into money. So, while I believe she loves her children and is trying to do what is best for them, I've also said some things about what they allow on the show back in the begining and even last year that I didn't think should have been shown. But I have to say, when I read the blog, I read it as a nice thing. She hadn't expected to take them out by herself (I wasn't under the impression that either the bodyguard or the camera people were babysitters), she thought she would have help with either Jon or the sitter, but she didn't and so she did it anyway. She sounded to me, like someone that was proud of herself that she was able to handle 8 kids out in the store by herself.

I'm a happy camper when I take three grandkids down to go fishing, and they don't 'catch' eah other or put out any eyes. I guess I'm not as talented as others, when it comes to a crowd of kids.

I just took it as I assume she meant it. A mom happy to be home for awhile from selling the book, and pleased to do something fun with her whole crew. A little nervous because she hadn't been out by herself in public (yes, I know she had camera people, and a bodyguard but how much can they protect her from the lenses?), but wanting to do this fun thing with her kids.

It is interesting how we all see it from different points of view. I can't think of a single thing that Kate could do right (other than shutting down the show) to please some people. She really is darned if she does and darned if she doesn't. As for her constantly traveling..she was out selling her books, but except for recently, it wasn't always constant.

I'm glad she had a fun day out with the kids, and I hope once they got home, they felt safe in the country and got to spend nice time together. Buying that home seems to be a good thing and use of their money. A safe haven from the paparazzi..well, those without the long lenses, anyway.

Oh come on!...Really??...are you suggesting that they DON'T love their kids??:confused3

Say whatever you like about them...but they DO love their kids...I didn't even imagine that was in question. plus I think its pretty obvious:eek:

Is that enough? Don't you think notoriously horrific parents like Susan Smith and Andrea Yates loved their kids? NOT comparing Kate and Jon to them; but saying "at least they love their kids" is pointless.

Omg! The woman tans, that maybe a whole 30 minutes! And the offit she was wearing is fine. It is not my taste but she does not look like a hooker. It is a short skirt. I am wearing shorts right now, does that mean I don't love my kids because you can see my legs. Give me a break.

It has gotten to the point that people and the media are just searching for something to bash this women about. I am not a Kate supporter, I actually have to turn the channel sometimes because I can't stand the way she talks to her husband but guess what he is a big boy and can stand up for himself. Anybody who lets another person talk to them like that does not have a backbone.

The kids are fine. People are talking about a photo or a kid crying as that meaning that the poor kid is being mistreated. Well I hope that is not true because then I am sure that the authorities will show up at all of our houses that have kids.

I don't think you understood the comment--flipping through the channels the other night I listened to comments concerning J & K. The photo in the airport was shown and one of the guests commented that she looked like a hooker. The other guest said she might as well be one as she is "pimping out her kids for money". I wasn't insulting anyone who dresses like her or wears shorts. Like other posters, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Did she have 6 of the same age? Because there is a HUGE difference between having 7 children and having 8 children with 6 of them being the same age.
