Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

Not starting anything here, but I just wanted to say that I didn't get that from TotalSnowWhite's statement at all. JMHO.

You're correct.. I misunderstood what she was saying because somewhere in this mess I missed whoever it was she was responding to.. These pages are moving waaay too fast and when I log off and return, I can't always find exactly where I left off..

I don't think Jon and Kate had kids to get government assistance

Neither do I.. And if quoting what she said seemed to imply otherwise, that's not the case at all.. It was her entire stand on "society" being responsible because they promote fertility drugs - an opportunity they chose to participate in..

I don't think that they did either. I guess what bothers me most in regard to J & K was/is their sense of entitlement to all things. Not just government assistance. Just my take on it..

Did you, by any chance, read the post I quoted? That person said it was selfish to pray for "unimportant" things, more or less. I was saying that if we got into a debate about what was more important in life, conversing about another family's problems probably isn't high on the list.

In fact, did you even read my post? Maybe there's some projection going on here, because I think it's a stretch, and a really big one at that, to get that I was saying it was "all or nothing."

I addressed this above - and I do apologize.. I did not read the post that you quoted - the reason being what I posted above.. Yes - I did read your entire post - but without the additional information you just provided, it appeared that you were saying something entirely different..

I was mistaken - and I'm not too proud to admit it.. Again - I sincerely apologize..

I pray every single night - for the Gosselin kids - and all of the other things I mentioned in my post.. This world could do with a lot more prayers - and I think many of us here (you included) realize that - which may have had something to do with my being confused.. If we couldn't post on a message board - and still continue to pray for all of the important issues in this world - that would be a sad state of affairs..:sad2:

Oops! I think we are now discussing "religion" - so I better leave it at that.. :goodvibes

My understanding on the subject of the fertility drugs was she went to the first doctor who did it with the twins. When she went back to do it again the doctor realized she did not need it and so she went and found a doctor who would do the treatment. That is wrong by them and the doctor.

I have never heard that. All I have ever heard is that Kate has some sort of disease where she can't get pregnant own her own. Like they say on the show they wanted one more and got 5 more lol. I applaud them for not getting rid of any of them. I have heard them say how do you choose which one to get rid of

Sounds like we are on the same page. I agree totally with you. I'm glad I just have a board to respond to and toss out my opinions, and that none of this is happening to me. I do wonder if we are being played by TLC.

And to add to my above post, NO, I would never wish for anyone to have an abortion of any type unless it was absolutely MEDICALLY necessary (to save the mother's life). I personally don't believe in abortion, but what may be unethical to me might be the right choice for others.

I do however agree with a poster above who said that the government should put a limit to how many eggs could be implanted. Jon and Kate knew the risks for multiples, and they also knew if they themselves could afford more children, and because of their decision to carry on with the fertility procedures, they ended up with eight very lovely children.

I would never wish for any of those children not to be brought into this world. I do hate that they are going what they are going through now for this will surely have an impact on their young lives. There are children all over the world who are put into horrific situations every day. And do I feel that any of their lives should have been brought to an end before they've even had a chance to live - NO. I do wish and pray however, that men and women would be more responsible with their actions so that their children do not have to pay the price.

I've made mistakes in my life, as well, those that I am least proud of, but I've learned from them and I've become a better person, I think because of the lessons that I have learned. I hope that whatever happens between Jon and Kate, I hope that they become stronger parents for it. In other words, putting their childrens happiness and well-being above all. Kate chooses "happiness", but what does she mean by that? We'll see.

My happiness came from within. Where will hers and Jon's come from? Well, that's totally up to them.

I don't know (I don't even know if they got an extra year), but the same article said the kids did better than most premature babies do, and maybe the nurse helped, with that, maybe she didn't.
And I do agree with you that your cousin is taking advantage, especially if she comes out and says she is. I don't know how you stop the government help, because if you do stop it, it's the kids that get hurt.

I agree with you, the kids are the ones getting hurt if the government assistance stops. It bothers me b/c I know that I am out working every day to try and make ends meet and provide a nice home for my child and insurance for my family and those trips to Disney I love so much.

And then I see people like my cousin with her hand out constantly, and not just to the government, but her hand out to me and other family members also. It's an ongoing thing with her. And then she tells me how they go out to eat every night of the week or buy things and tell me about them that I consider a frivilous want, not a need. You don't borrow money and then tell the person you've borrowed the money from that you just got back from the movies or the clothing outlet and all the new things that you've got.

I've loaned her money and baby items that have yet to be returned, and I know in my heart of hearts that she could go to work and not be constantly needing to borrow money from somone or needing government assistance. I guess I've gone on a rant. Sorry. Pent up issues, I guess!!!!!!!!!!!! :confused3 (forgive me for rambling)

I'm almost 100% sure that Kate had IUI (no eggs are implanted).

It's done, no worries.

They only got 5? :scared1: Where did the other one come from??? ;)

Kate has PCOS, as do I, so I tend to get very defensive when people talk fertility treatments. I may have to excuse myself from the thread if it takes that turn.

I wondered about that as I typed the message. I wasn't sure which procedure exactly that she had done. There's so much information out there about them, I don't even remember half of it anymore! And I've been watching since the first special that they did...:goodvibes

I hope that nothing that I have said has offended you. That would never be my intent to offend ANYONE on this thread!

I don't have a problem with fertility treatments at all, honestly. I got pregnant with my son on the very first try (believe me, I wasn't expecting it to happen that fast and neither was DH :scared1:!). But I wanted him so badly, and if I had found that I had trouble getting pregnant, as much as I wanted to be a mother, believe me, I'd have done the same.

And I can totally relate to Kate wanting more children and from what I've heard, Jon not being totally on board with that. She said that she mourned that for awhile. Yeah, I'm going through that myself now. I have a four year old, soon to be five and I want another child so badly that I could cry. DH isn't quite so keen on the idea and so I wonder if more children will ever be in the books for me? I hope so, but if not, I've got my own little miracle right here, and that's good enough for me. I'm just glad that I got to experience it once rather than not all.

A lot of people aren't quite so lucky, I know that.

No problems with fertility drugs in general - and I'm sorry to hear that you also have problems.. :( My DD was told she could never had kids - got lucky and had one - lost several more after that.. If fertility drugs were the only way she could have had a child - and they were able to afford it - I'm sure that's the route they would have taken..

This thread is about Kate and Jon - and their subsequent choices.. Please don't leave the thread! :goodvibes

No Beaufort, SC It was really great! Just got back home and had to check in to see if there were any new videos or anything today... :rolleyes1 Now we're going to have a quick dinner then hit the pool with the kids and some friends. They're doing the air show again tomorrow. DH said he'd go back but we already have pool plans for tomorrow. The Blue Angels were awesome - I think that's my first time ever seeing them. Everyone did an awesome job!

/QUOTE]

I ask because dd's fiance is a marine at cherrypoint and he's driving a bus for the air show this weekend. We were going to but ds has a baseball game (then he hurt his arm and isn't playing). Dh and I really like fiance so say "hi" to the marines for us if you go back.

I'm all for responsible treatments. I'd love to be able to have a biological child as a result of, well, you know. This is a family board. However, if it comes down to it, I will try IUI. If that doesn't work, I will resort to IVF (Octomom's treatment), but I would never in a million years implant a crazy number of eggs like that.

The problem with people not familiar with treatments is that they tend to lump it all in the same category.

No, no, no! I've just seen this thread take that turn into "all treatments are bad," and that was even before Octomom! I got into it with some poster a while back. Maybe all the way back in thread one?!?

That statement would be true for me, I tend to lump them all together, myself, as demonstrated earlier! ;)

However you do it, I hope you get your wish!!!!! :lovestruc

Seriously, I LOVE this thread!:lovestruc We have in the last week discussed adultery, scandal, child tv rights, Kate's hair, government rights and fertility treatments! What a well rounded group we are.:thumbsup2

I hate to appear stupid, but I have in the past, so what the heck. If she had IUI, do you get any choice in the amount that will take..how many kids you will have? I guess if not, that would explain the we wanted one and got an extra 5.
We've got a little of everything in our family, from adoption to IVF, to IUI, to a little help from just drugs, and they are all welcome additions.
I marvel at what can be done nowadays for those who need a little help.

And that was just the past few days!

No, while there is a chance of multiples with IUI (as with most treatments), there's no way to know what will take. It's like stimulated "mingling." With IVF, eggs are actually taken out, fertilized and implanted. You choose how many eggs will be implanted, but that doesn't mean each egg will take.
