Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

Those of you who don't think they're doing enough to say they're green, they've got to start somewhere. This is what they did in, what, a week or so? No one just turns on a (LED) light switch and becomes all green. This is a starting point, and it's probably more than most people do. I know I don't have solar panels, nor do I plan to have them in the near future, but we consider ourselves a fairly green house (not a greenhouse).

What more would you have liked to see on the Go Green special?

I guess I would like to see them actually DO something instead of letting people do things for them and then claim to be doing something. Kate drinking out of that plastic water bottle in the interview chair is one of the least green things she could have done, and one of the easiest ways to be greener.

I would have liked to see them follow up on some of the things Sara Snow taught them, for starters. Do they still recycle? Also, addressing the use of SO many paper products. If it's more beneficial for them to do that, say why. If it isn't, then help them find something that works. I've noticed that the children eat things out of individual bags/cups at meals. It would be more cost effective and generate less waste if she bought snacks in bulk and portioned them out among the children that way. A green episode would have been a perfect tie in to the organic eating lifestyle Kate has preached about so much. They could have discussed water conservation in the bathrooms .. high efficiency, eco-friendly appliances in the kitchen ..

Good points!

Also, when Sara Snow was on - at least she was teaching J&K AND the viewers ways to go green. Not just more freebies for J&K.

Ok, there's a lot of talk here about freebies. My question is where are you all getting this info. from? How do you know it's free? I'm not being accusatory here :goodvibes, just am wondering how people actually know what they're getting for free. :confused3

Also, not to stir the pot or anything  but how many of you would turn down free stuff? If I walked into Gymboree and the manager thought my kids were adorable and offered me free clothes for a year, I'd take it! Is the issue perhaps that people feel J&K think they're entitled to it? I'm just saying...:rolleyes1

Repeat after me. It doesn't matter what J&K do or do not do. They are always greedy and wrong. Especially Kate.

I think the pp was being sarcastic and pointing out, that to some ppl. it doesn't matter what the Gosselins do, they'll still always be wrong/greedy ect.

Ya, I just re-read it! Duh. I guess the  should have tipped me off, huh? :goodvibes

I was doing laundry and thought the same thing about teaching the viewers something. One of the reasons (in the beginning) that Jon & Kate were so popular was because they were doing things others could relate to. I would assume that solar panels are costly, and something a regular JK8 viewer probably wouldn't install on their home. Why not pick simple projects kids and parents could do together?

This was just promo fluff for TLC, though. A "new" JK8 episide (filmed before they destroyed the interview set) tied to the new Renovation Nation show. And not much more.

And I wonder if the workers appreciated being called ridiculous.

I could not believe how rude Kate was being to Steve. Or maybe it's just the way the show was edited that made it seem that way. :confused3

Ok...just now have time to watch it, so I am watching it now!

So far...the kids need to wear helmets..

I totally feel Kate on the "I hate projects" and the people in and out and not knowing where people are. We had a pool salesman here today and I was trying to be nice and interested, but it's hard. I just hate people in "my space". I want a pool, but omg I will be a mess when the installation is in progress for 30-45 days!!

Awww... you are so good at picking up on the details :thumbsup2 I didn't even notice. I knew it was filmed over V-day, because it was talked about on the show, but I didn't even think about the old set.

ITA. I can't stand any projects or ppl. working in/at my home, and yes I will say I get pretty crabby:rotfl:

Okay, so yes I think Kate was pretty grouchy on this episode, but did anyone else think that Steve guy was overly nice/affecionate/talkative with them? I know it's going to sound mean, but I think I would have been pretty annoyed by him after 30 minutes, let alone 3 days. I thought it was really weird that he kissed the kids (and Kate) bye:confused3:confused3 I mean, I guess it's nice that he's so "friendly," but it just seemed odd.

have I mentioned how much it bothers me that those kids were without helmets?

I know that people feel like Jon & Kate are picked on unfairly sometimes, and there's a certain amount of truth to that. But not this time. The no helmet thing is big ... it goes way above and beyond petty comments about stripey hair and orange tans.

would you be less of a mess if the pool was installed for free and filmed on TV? ;) I might be... although, I couldn't say for sure. The thought of being filmed bothers me much more than having work people here. LOL.

I did wonder what the kids thought of him kissing their mom right in front of them.

I also noticed that the interview set was still the old set!

Great points. Opting for the expensive solar panels doesn't surprise me in the least. Sad about the workers--but rather revealing. There's no need to name call honorable hard workers.
Another show, but a good example: After watching Kate's Kleinfeld's visit, I understood her. When offered something quite lovely, she instead undertakes skillfully negotiations so she can bypass nice and move on to something much more "impressive and upscale". I don't relate.
(Kleinfelds--TLC's Say yes to the dress)

it's the stupid stuff like that that I notice. I didn't pay much attention to the host guy being huggy with the family, though. :lmao:

I'm still hung up on the Valentine's Day timing. That's when Jon was gone. They've pretended holidays before, I wonder if they did the same thing for the show? Although, Jon seemed to have gone missing through parts of this episode .. I don't know.

Did anyone else get the good vibes from Mady last night? She seemed so much calmer and nicer all around. I wonder if the puppies have something to do with it? She seems to really love them.

Holy cow, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought that too! He was very affectionate with the kids and I thought it was strange. I know I wouldn't have liked him kissing and hugging my kids. Even if he is famous, you know? I felt he acted TOO familiar with them, like he's been a friend of the family for ages or something. That would've really annoyed me. I agree, he did seem odd, almost as if he was trying very hard to come across happy and friendly. Is he normally like that, I have no idea as I've never watched him or his show.:confused3

I noticed that Jon & Steve exchanged a few words at the end of the show, and one said something about calling the other? Maybe they are familiar with each other? I don't know how much time they were actually there for pre-production and actual filming .. maybe they got close? I don't know. They were definitely exchanging witty banter more than casual aquaintances.

Are you guessing that is the case, or is there new info out there?

I watched some of it on the rerun last night, but I was doing other things and didn't see most of it.

The thing that bothered me was when Kate said the world is going to end anyway, so it didn't really matter that they were "going green". I think she's being pushed into doing this and don't think she'd do it on her own.
