she only mentioned the cost effectiveness a couple of times. the bigger benefit, IMO, is all the tax stuff they mentioned.

and this is a totally stupid question, maybe ... does the sun shine enough in Pennslyvania (or any other part of the northeast) in the winter to make solar panels worth it? I didn't listen to the lesson about turning the sun into energy, LOL.

they're not ragging on him about that .. but people have noticed how "familiar" he was. and I did point out there was witty banter ;)

i have to wonder about the solar panels in pennsylvania as well. we know of a contractor who did his whole home up with solar and despite having a back up system (strictly back up, not enough to run a home for weeks on end) he's had to pack it in on multiple occasions both of the last 2 winters and find alternate lodging for himself and his family. the way he tells it the solar's great so long as the system is getting the solar exposure but if you go too many days and use up all your stored capacity, while you might be able to deal with dim lights and no television, might be able to use your bbq to cook meals-going without hot water and heating your home can make it unlivable. and if you live on acreage that utilizes a well-you won't be getting any water pumped into your home at all :scared: (and if it's like many well systems you have to take care not to lose power or you can end up with burst pipes in the winter and a fortune in repairs).

I cannot imagine that.
You would think the guy would of put in a back up generator or had some power to his home.

Okay, I actually liked the Green Show last nite.
ya Steve was at times obnoxious, but I think he knew he had to make the show fun, or it would of been boring. I like the way he talked to the kids, he did not talk down to them, he used words above my head, explaining how the panels worked, but like Jon said, he made it fun, so the kids could understand.

In the beginning Jon was pretty excited to talk, but as the show went on, his face became more and more withdrawn.

I wouldn't have noticed half of what was on the show, if you guys hadn't talked about it. LOL.

Anyone want to do some detective work and go back and look and see if Jon was wearing the sweater in the bar photo's as he was wearing while he was in the interview chair? I have a feeling that Jon came home from his mom's house right before this show was taped. I have a feeling Valentine's Day show was thrown in there for good measure, so no one would question were Jon was. Valentine's Day was a Saturday and I'm betting the workers and Steve came the following Monday. JMO.

Surely there will be a marathon between now and then. We could make bets on how many times newbies hop in to talk about how mean Kate is, how Jon is a saint, how they would come across just like that if they were on tv, whine about freebies or ask what happened to Beth and Jodi.

Or we could make that table of contents we were talking about to point people to when they ask those questions. :rotfl: I still have the second thread in my subs, I think. :thumbsup2

the table of contents is a quality idea!! I like it!

Grr... I bought both of those DVDs so that I could watch them go to WDW. I've seen the episode of them going to the beach after WDW...

The Disney episode will be on tomorrow, Wednesday, at 10:00am. Is there a way for you to record since it's the one episode you wanted that is not on the DVD's? That is soooo annoying. I love the Disney episode! You'd think they would have included that one too. Goodness, I see tons of Disney commercials on TLC so I can't imagine why. :goodvibes

I skimmed the blogs last night, and I noticed some chatter about what Jon was wearing, what Kate was wearing and how it related to some of the later shows. I don't remember if anyone mentioned that he might be wearing the same sweater. If I get a chance, I'll look later.

Hey Madge,
Here is my shout-out to you when we by-passed your town.
My sons thought I was nuts.

My son had my camera cord and he left it in his dorm room, he finally returned it to me this weekend-that is why I never posted earlier.

woo hoo!! that's my exit!! :cool1:

Ok I watched the "going green" last night. I don't think the show was really all that informative honestly. Yeah, they got some solar pannels AKA "roof jewelry" and I like that they went over the tax benefits of them. I would like to have seen a break down of what it cost "up front" to buy and install them to give people an idea - maybe explain the different kinds of different parts of the country or something?? I thought the little green pop up boxes with info were WAY too small - very hard to read the words inside them! I liked the changing the light bulbs - too bad it was only a couple of minutes of the episode - that's something that most people could actually do. I wish the focus of the show would not have been (in my opinion) putting some roof jewelry on, listening to Kate complain about the people there doing a job for her and her family and hearing how good Kate's cookies were in between "playful" banter between Kate and Steve. Kate's inside using energy left and right while Jon and the gang are outside trying to save it!

I also thought it was weird that Kate wasn't even outside with the kids with all the equipment and everything was around. Maybe the "nanny" was there (and maybe they mentioned that and I missed it!) but I know if I had a project going on, I'm always right there keeping an eye on my boys because they're dare devils and who knows what they'll try! :rotfl:

I would like to have seen much more about what the "normal" person could do in their home or even a break down of here's the "waste" the Gosselins normally produce but by doing X, Y and Z, they would only make this much.

I got the feeling that Steve somehow knew the family - the way he was talking about letting Kate down when the solar pannels weren't there seemed like he honestly cared about keeping his word with her and it was more than just this one time meeting. Maybe he's always like that? I don't watch him so I'm not sure. As for the hugging/kissing I must have been distracted at that point because I don't recall it. The kids were (from what it looked like) out there playing with them and Kate mentioned during the interview how the kids learned everyone's names and were out talking and playing with them so that might have something to do with it too.

Overall, I don't think it was as well done as it could have been....I would like to have seen more from TLC. Do you think they've kind of "given up" in the sense that they know people will watch the show regardless of what's on it any more? Maybe that's why more effort wasn't put into it (not saying they didn't put effort into it....it was just a weird show).

I'm sure I'll think of more later! :rotfl:

I don't know why this just popped into my head, but... I was wondering if Jon is going to have to go up on the roof in the winter time to get the snow off the panels so the sun can get to them?

Madge, how close are you to Paducah? I grew up about an hour away from Paducah in So. IL.

I liked the green episode.

We got to see more of the kids (loved hearing little Alexis sing) and the dogs, which Kate even seems to love the dogs. I am so glad that they were allowed to be outside (getting dirty) and just being kids.

I really didn't think it was so terrible the way Kate was behaving with Steve. She made it clear that she was kidding and he was giving her a hard time about things as well. :confused3

2-3 hours. I pretty much live in the center of Kentucky .. OhMari was on I-65 North or South (I can't tell) where you pick up the Western Kentucky Parkway that heads towards Paducah. :)

I'm not sure I've ever been to Paducah, now that I think about it. I've been to Grand Rivers and Land Between the Lakes .. but never to Paducah. We had the opportunity to move there for a job once, but opted to stay here.

Ok, the green episode repeated last night and I watched it again. The second time around, I didn't think Kate was that crabby. (Except she really needs to look a little happier on the couch.) :) I think a lot of it was the kidding thing she and Steve had going on between the two of them. And, I didn't think Steve was getting too familiar with the kids. I just think that is his personality.

I agree. I think she has a sarcastic sense of humor, as do I - I really have to watch what I say here on the DIS. I like Steve's comment about her making cookies is her way of showing a softer side - something to that effect.

This episode really made me sad though. There was no interaction whatsoever between Kate & John. I don't think I saw them speak to one another the entire show except on the couch and not sure if they did it then. To me Kate seemed somewhat sad and withdrawn. I really hope they can get back to where they were - emotionally.

My wife watches this show, and I occasionally sit and watch with her.

I commented to my wife, that Kate
did absolutely no screaming at anyone.
There was no "JoooooN'?

She actually walked outside and played with the dogs
I think I heard Jon comment that "Kate ran to the store to buy some baking things".

We used to watch "This Old House"-probably one of the first reality shows and Steve used to drive everyone crazy on that show. I liked him, but there were many times, he was out of his element and had no clue what he was talking about. They never said why he left This Old House, but they replaced him with a "look-a-like", but the show has never been the same. The show turned into a huge "infomercial.

A few times Steve pushed Jon and asked him,
"get your wife"
or "what would your wife think".
Most times, Jon rolled his eyes. There was definately tension on the show, if you knew what to look for.
