Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

The Star has never been a magazine I would purchase, based on other headlines I've seen in it, that have been proved to be wrong, nasty, or hurtful..
-----------------
Well at least we can agree on that.. Quite frankly I was still "iffy" about People magazine - until I read the article myself.. Even then - if had been nothing more than "sources revealed" - it would have been "questionable".. But it was clearly Kate speaking for herself - so that's as close as one can get to "straight from the horses mouth" at this point..

Don't know where Jon is - and I'm hoping he doesn't issue a nasty "come back" that will only serve to inflame the issue more.. Hopefully he's out looking for a real job..

What does this mean? To open an account means what? Did the government put money aside, or is this an account that they feel people will put money in? I assume they will need to attend a PA state school to get Tap (to use any money in that account, if there is any in it)?

That is why, for my gift to the Gosselin Family on this very special occasion, I am opening accounts for all eight of the Gosselin children through the Tuition Account Program, which I had a hand in creating when I served as Pennsylvania State Treasurer.

Contributions to these accounts will accrue throughout the children’s lives and be available to them once it comes time to attend college.

If you would like to make a contribution to the Gosselin Family’s TAP account, you can do so by making your check payable to “TAP 529,” writing “Gosselin” in the memo portion of the check, and sending your contributions to: Gosselin Sextuplets and Twins Accounts, TAP Bureau, 218 Finance Building, Harrisburg, PA 17120. More information on the Tuition Account Program can be obtained by calling 1-800-440-4000 or by visiting the Treasury website and clicking on Tuition Account Program.

Happy Mother’s Day, Kate and Jonathan. Pennsylvania is proud of you and this wonderful six-pack whose birthday we honor today. Congratulations, and many blessings for a healthy, happy, and prosperous future for your family!

Just finished reading the People article. Well, Jon is an idiot, I think we ALL can agree on that! But let's not forget that Kate is a clever, determined woman. She has said numerous times that she loves what she's doing, wants to have her own talk show, loves being in the studio. Not only that, she makes no apologies for who she is and how she acts. She knew that this story was important for her to get out there, she's no fool. As a matter of fact I think she's the most shrewd person I've ever come across. Anyhoo, back to the article...

If all the things she claims are true, then it is sad. She is painting a very disparaging picture of Jon, how he didn't want to do the show so she told him to get a job, volunteer, go back to school, etc. It's all very interesting. She wants people to believe that she is the one sacrificing and working hard for her kids. I don't know how I feel about that yet. Apparently she is the ONLY one working for kids by criss-crossing the country to promote her book. It still is a hard pill to swallow thought that she NEEDS to be doing the show, promotions, speaking engagements because of the kids and their future. Unless she and Jon are completely brainless, they should have lots of money stashed away. That argument is getting old in my opinion. Their college fund was started by the Lt. Governor of PA so all Kate really needs to do is have enough $ for them to eat and pay for the house, if TLC hasn't paid for it at least to some extent (they had to construct an interview set in the new house). Again, there are so many large families and they are making it work. I think Kate's problem is that she wants a certain lifestyle (big surprise) for herself and her family that necessitates a larger income than other families. Therefore in her mind, she NEEDS to do all this. Also, if she was SO worried about money and was worried about Jon not wanting to do the show, then why on earth buy such a large house?? The timing of Jon voicing his unhappiness about the show with the new house all fits. I just think that was a foolish move on both their parts. Jon is complaining about how unhappy he is, Kate loves what they're doing so let's add more stress by buying an enormous house! That won't add any pressure or make Kate feel she needs to work more.

Wow, it really does sound like some trashy novel, doesn't it? Well, I can only imagine what the 1st episode will be like then.

Oh, and as far as the affair with her bodyguard, I don't think she did. She isn't THAT stupid and knows if it got out, she'd be done. In the article she addresses this and says she's worked too hard to take herself down in that way. I actually believe that part. Of course I could be wrong...

Bottom line, they both are responsible for their actions. Honestly right now, they are acting like children...he said, she said, blah blah blah. Both of them need to stop running to the tabloids and go home together and hash this thing out. Believe it or not, they owe that to their marriage, each other and their kids.

You really articulated that well, I agree. Seems like being home more would have helped her husband work through his issues. Men can be complicated that is for sure. Funny I always think that we as woman are wired to select a mate that we feel would be a good provider and protector. I guess Kate didn't really know Jon all that well before she got married and pregnant. I think it was only after a year of marriage she did the fertility for the twins. Goals I think are something that should be discussed in the courting stage. Mutual goals are very important to build a good foundation for a long and happy marriage.

It' s the kind of stuff you'd tell your closest friends in private. The problem is that they no longer have any friends.

I would think even telling my closest of friends woud be impossible. I would probably choose to seek a counselor to tell. A person who has a better understanding of these types of issues.

Well at least they still have the old house. I'm sure it would be cheaper all around, if kate has to go it as a single mom. I'm just not picturing her sacrificing anything for the sake of those kids.

Wonder if Jon has thought of opening his own bar.

Really she's the one doing the work right now, basically she'd have one less mouth to feed. So monetarily I'm not sure she'd be hurting too badly if TLC decided to rework the show with just her. Honestly I buy her as a driven career woman more than a stay at home mom. Who knows she may do very well, a lot of women who are ultra successful have that *itch streak running strong.

My word, my poor mother and father had six of us, and my elderly gramma who had alzhiemers to take care of and nobody set up an account for her. I hope she does not read this. She is in PA visiting the Poconos(sp?) with her senior ladies group this weekend, I bet she will. But, I guess this is just a PA thing.

Well, I'm going to predict that we see one or the other file for divorce very soon. The more I think about it, the more I think all of this running to the gossip mags is an effort on each Gosselin's part to get their side of the story out -- in a way that portrays them in a favorable light -- before the divorce proceedings start. Kate is speaking on behalf of herself -- Jodi & Kevin are the mouthpiece for Jon.

It's kind of like they're drawing the line in the sand and let the battle begin.

I saw this statement on a blog somewhere and I could not agree more:

"The only thing worse than exploiting your marriage, is to bring the kids down with you."

the issue would be IF tlc even has the option of reworking the the show. if they divorce and jon pushes the issue about the kids continuing on the show it could get pretty nasty. if he lawyered up right it could be shown that he's been the primary one at home with the kids during kate's solo traveling, and it could even be argued (as many have on this thread and others) that the show depicts him when she's there as the one who appears to do a bulk of their physical care. he could push for custody or at the very least an arrangement that precludes the kids from participation in an on going show. a court mandatate psychological evaluation of the kids could open a pandora's box of reasons the court could use to block the production from continuing (even if both parents wanted it to-i have family members the court did this to pertaining to a schooling choice, parents were united in their chosen means but a nasty divorce triggered a psych. eval on the kids that the court used to mandate how those kids would proceed until they reached the age of majority).

i suspect if they do divorce this child custody battle could end up the gloria vanderbuilt trial of our generation (disclosures and manipulations NO child should ever be subjected to).:sad2::sad2:

that the show depicts him when she's there as the one who appears to do a bulk of their physical care.
Has anyone mentioned on this thread that he does the bulk of their physical care when she is there? I have so missed that, if so. I wonder if it's him or the nanny that does the bulk of the work when she isn't there. I thought his taking the kids for a walk in their woods was something he had to do for the camera's, he so didn't enjoy it. He doesn't seem to be able to get them dressed without Kate laying out the clothes, and I think I have seen him feed them twice. Doesn't seem to me that he has had a lot of their care.
I also wonder if Jon has his signature on the contract for this show, which might play a bit in any court case.

That's a good point. Jon could really dismantle Kate's plans to continue the show with the kids. I could SO see a judge ruling that the reality show was not in the best interest of the kids at the time of divorce.

That battle royale would make for one scary episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8!

Kate mentioned that they still haven't sold their old home. If they divorced, I wonder if Jon would go back to living in the old house. Isn't it right down the street from Jodi & Kevin? And it would be familiar ground for the kids. I could see the positives in that.

But I suppose that's all putting the cart before the horse.

I think during Grey's they said that Kate and Jon would be on the ABC national morning show?

I might actually have to watch. Every day they talk about them on the local radio. (I live close) It is really getting nasty.:headache:

well, he's the one they've shown bathing the kids and helping them brush their teeth. i also thought kate's said that he's the one that gets them up and going each day since she's not a morning person.

even if it's a child care provider that does the bulk of the work when kate's gone it will still come down to a "he said/she said" and those episodes from the show could carry allot of weight. kate might argue that in the editing she's not being acuratly depicted but then a good lawyer could counter by throwing all the statements she's made season after season that the show IS an accurate depiction of their lives.

if they've signed a contract with tlc (or the production company) that will be a battle for the adults to go through. the courts will look to the well being of the kids-and if the mud slinging continues at it's current pace i would'nt be surprised if some gloria allred type steps up and starts stirring up things with children's services.

i am REALY hoping the promo was badly worded because i tivo'd grey's tonight and just watched it-i rewound the commercial twice to make sure i heard it right, and the ad is saying that on tomorrows show "jon and kate PLUS 8" will be featured and one of the topics is their marital issues.

dear lord-if they actualy bring those kids on and then proceed to discuss their marital problems they have no concern for their children's well being what so ever:mad::sad1:

Good Morning!

I just watched the GMA (Good Morning America) "opener" and they'll be talking about J&K this morning as well. Just wanted to give anyone a head's up who might be interested in watching!

no its Kate's brother and aunt Jodi.

The GMA is really nothing. All they are doing is showing the video of Keven and Jodi. You will learn more on this board.

I can't specifically remember what's said on the show... but, it's part of Kate's speech that she goes out and does the book tours, public appearances, etc. and Jon stays home with the children. She reiterates that they do that so there is always a parent at home. Now, she doesn't elaborate about how much physical care he gives them. In the earlier episodes of the show, it was Jon that did the bath routine, though.

I understand he is home (well, sometimes) as the stay at home dad, while she is doing the book tours. I was talking about when she is home. Someone said he does the bulk when she is home. I just haven't seen it. I have heard her say he gets them up in the am, but on the shows, I usually see her giving the day to day care. But I can't see that that would be part of a custody battle, if there even was one (cause it sounds like Jon wants to play, and it's hard to play with 8 kids, unless it was with them). I do remember him doing the bath routine while she straightened up, got bottles ready, etc, and then combed hair as she got them.

So, for Kate's speech, she does say the care is both of them, and not that she is a stay at home mom? It all gets so confusing with so many saying so much different.
