Imagine that I set up a camera in my infant's bedroom and film him/her all day and night. I then broadcast the footage of the baby eating, sleeping, crying and pooping on my cable channel (BabyTV, all baby, all the time). I haven't violated any child labor laws, because my child is not laboring.

ITA. I don't see it as the kids "working" by any means. I'm not saying that it may or may not have a bad affect on them in the long run, but I would never say they're "working."

Oh, thank goodness you guys slowed down for a bit.

Unfortunately, I know a lot of couples who just aren't in love anymore, but they go through the motions for their kids. I know a lot of times on WifeSwap (real scientific, I know), when they've lived in someone else's shoes, it helps them bring some life back into their marriage. I wonder if it's just the stress of life pushing them apart. Like Kate said, there's no going back...but in this case I'm thinking of life before eight children.

Kate's older, right? I know it's been a Jon bashfest (which I never thought I'd see on here!! ), but he had to do a lot of growing up in a short amount of time. I absolutely give him credit for that. He was a 20-something guy who all of a sudden was a father of eight. Kate's age (plus the fact that women tend to be more mature than men, especially in this case it seems) and maternal instinct gave her a leg up on him. If he cheated, none if this is an excuse for that. Nothing is, but I imagine the stress of raising a family of ten huge. The celebrity adds to the stress, yes, but if they weren't doing the show, then it would be the stress of finances. I'm wondering if it would be the same for them.

OK, this was my respite...back to my house full of kids. At least I get to send some of them home in an hour.

I heard on the radio that TLC had confirmed (to ???) that Jon and Kate make $47,000 each per episode. They hold separate and joint contracts. Kids aren't paid, but are part of all of the show contracts? I don't get it.

I just don't see TLC paying them that much for a cable tv reality show. Granted it is a popular show but not that popular. Most people I know have never heard of the show...well until now anyway.

I think Kate is only 2 years older? I think the whole thing is just sad. I was be upset if my DH was running around with some 20 somethings. Hanging in bars. Really with 8 kids who has the time for that? What is even sadder for those children is the way they have cut every member of their family out of their lives.

I want someone to ask Kate "where are the kids right now?" "Who is watching them?"
Clearly it isn't Jon.

What? She's still going? Ridiculous. On Larry King last night she talked and talked about how the kids are her focus, how important they are and how excited she is their b-day is on Sunday. Wow, she's literally going to be in AK tomorrow, home for their b-day Sunday and then gone for 3 more days? Her priorities are whacked.

I disagree. The kids are working...they have to deal with the camera crew, production crew, audio crew, lights, saying the right thing for the camera and the biggest, dealing with Kate while she freaks and over-reacts to situations on camera. They numerous outings that are way to long to list, they do talk shows, Oprah, etc. Sounds exhausting to me.

No kidding! How does she expect us to buy her whole "I'm doing everything for the kids, their our priority" when she's gone. Especially in the midst of the scandal. Unbelievable. She's exhibiting such bull-headed stubborness to keep doing what she wants to do. Ridiculous.

because here's the thing .. she was in NYC last night doing Larry King Live. And depending on the travel schedule, she's flying to Arkansas today .. did she go home first? The sextuplets birthday is Sunday and she's not home with them on their birthday weekend? and then she's home 2 days and gone again. wow.

I don't know of any speaking/signing today, but the schedule was taken down, so who knows.

What is even more sad is that those few days that she is home they are probably filming for the show.

She's just a regular Mom getting up every morning with her kids....my foot!

So she speaks to women's groups? Like at churches? Zondervan in a Christian book publisher, right? I think if Jon and Kate are Christian that they should probably get some heavy duty Christian counseling. Their marriage really strays from biblical principles. Maybe they started out in abetter place and have strayed as they've gained an "independence" from God with less of a need for Him with fame and fortune. Anyway, it sounds very off track to me and I would think Zondervan would be very unhappy with all of this from both sides. I saw a letter in Homelife magazine which must have featured something about them a month or so ago. The letter was saying how she couldn't believe Lifeway was featuring them as some sort of role models for couples or parents or some such thing. That was the first I even realized they were *religous*.

when I saw her in March (at a church), she had been somewhere the week before .. possibly with the family, filming .. and was at an appearance the following week. I saw her on a Sunday, and Kate's next engagement was Thursday. No idea if that's a regular schedule or not.

I really don't know why I keep coming back to this thread.. I guess it's just because I'm so concerned about those poor kids..

I wish someone - anyone - even one of the twins would say, "Can we stop doing this show now and have a normal life??"

I can see lots of messed up kids and lots of "tell all" books down the pike..

I think right now the kids are better off with a nanny. A nanny is providing for their everyday consistancy. It's clear that mom and dad certainly arent focusing on the kids with everything else going on.

IMHO Kate only cares about the kids to the extent they make her money. This applies to her marriage which is one of convenience, and to her schedule. If you watch the show close enough, you'll realize how nasty she can be at times. She ignores the kids at times, and relies heavily on the nannies. Not that Jon is much better.


She can say how concerned she is with the kids, but then look at her schedule. You don't see her canceling the show? It makes her too much money to stop the show.

SHe said in her interview "I choose happiness, I choose to survive anything" and exploiting her kids for money and going on speaking engagements to promote herself and her book are what make her happy. That is what she has chosen. So I think she is just going to "survive" or ignore Jon's idiocy because it might interfere with her "happiness" which is her "career"

Kate does what is best for Kate. You need to remove the rose color glasses you have on.

Kate did not marry Jon out of convenience. She stays married to him out of convenience. Whatever it takes to keep her house of cards together. That way she can wring every dollar out of their situation. I be willing to bet that they would have divorced long ago, if it were not for the show.
