Personally, I have no problem pulling my two daughters out of school for a week to go to WDW every year. I would imagine I would feel the same way if we had a chance to appear on a national morning program!;)

Regis is in NYC.

The Gosselins live near (or in) Elizabethtown, PA. I know this because I live in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. How ironic is that?! :rotfl:

Anyway, E'town, PA is 3 hours from Times Square.

Easy peasy to do it in a day, then!!

I'm watching a rerun, and Jon just said they're going to have the best for their kids, no matter what anyone thinks. He said he'd go to the ends of the earth for his kids. Seems pretty genuine to me...like they mean more than set pieces.

I agree with you 100%.

i'de have to make the decision based on the ramifications of the school my kids attend. the district we used to live in did an automatic failing grade if the child exceeded the number of allowable excused absences (and they were tight on what they would excuse). one private school they attended had zero tolerance for unexcused absences so if you hit a certain very low number it was 'bye-bye'. their last school would permit a very small number of excused days for travel but would not permit getting assignments ahead of time-the kids would be given everything the day they got back and were expected to complete it at home in the identical number of days they missed (so 5 days out of school meant getting 5 full days of in class and homework assignments done in the next 5 days in addition to your regular homework:scared: ) they contended it was'nt 'punitive' but a 'deterant' to those who 'chose' to travel outside the established school breaks (and to their credit they did give one week off during the least peak travel time for family vacations to provide non traditional vacation/travel time for families).

True - I'm always shocked to hear of the ramifications some families face for pulling their kids out for vacation. We're in Mass. and my DD is in middle school; her "team" of teachers publicly stated at open house that they have no problem with kids missing school for vacation; assignments are posted online and she is expected to check that and make up the work in the appropriate amount of time. I'm grateful for this policy; my older DD is special needs and travelling to Disney during vacation times or summer would be extremely difficult! Obviously, there is a limit to the amount of "unexcused" absences she could take - but I believe that number is 10 and we never even come close to that - sick days included.

Children employed as actors are exempt from all Federal Child Labor Laws. Having them apply to youth who act, or not, is up to the state. I have never seen specifics for PA, but work with employing youth in NC daily. In NC, actors and entertainers are exempt from all state child labor laws. The Gosselin children are probably not employed by anyone, because they "don't work." This show is a "documentary."

much earlier in the thread I linked to the federal laws that pertained to child actors. I also linked to the NC code that stated the federal laws that applied.

same here. until my oldest DS graduated from high school, he attended a different school district from his younger brother & sister. The districts had very different attendance policies.. it would have been much harder to pull him from school than the other two. With that said, I think a national TV show would have warranted an excused absense.

but if they continue on a similar media circuit, how feasible will it be for them to continue in a traditional school setting? I don't know why they would, at least all there is now is the book tour, but it was just something I thought of.

I know that there are Olympic athletes that attend traditional schools while training. Most would attend school for part of the day then work on training the rest of the day. They would also be excused to attend competitions, etc. I'm would be bet that the Gosselins have worked out arrangements similar to that that would allow the kids to miss some time for appearances, etc. And I'm sure the school is aware of the circumstances and that they will need to miss school for show related activities. And even though schools have set rules there are always exceptions.

if the Gosselin children aren't classified as actors, then why does it matter what the laws are?

I'm sure if it gets to be a problem, Jon & Kate will consider home school. It would then give them more episodes to film whereas people are starting to wonder what will happen when they are all in school.

I think the rumor is that they'll be homeschooled when they move to NC. Or have tutors come to them. Something like that?

Oh my, I hope not. They would be so isolated. I'm not anti homeschool but I'm anti J&K homeschooling!

I agree with you! but like I said, it's a rumor .. and it's been a rumor for a couple of months now. We'll see.

The lack of child actor laws in NC is brought up by many bashers as the reason for the move to NC. I am pointing out the laws to show that the claims are wrong.

I can't find the ones you posted upthread, would you mind sharing them again?

but the children aren't actors. why does it matter what, if any, the laws are?

I'm not going around in cicles again on the whole NC/child labor laws/child actors laws argument.

ETA: instead of asking me what do the child actors laws have to do with it, perhaps it would be better to ask the posters who bring it up

I'm not sure if you're speaking to me or to Whitney, but I wasn't arguing. I want to see your links. I tried googling, but have no idea what it is I'm looking for.

And I'm serious, if they're not classified as actors ... then what does it matter what child labor laws there are, anywhere? they don't apply to the Gosselins, because those kids aren't actors. I don't understand, from either side, what the argument is. It seems like a moot point to me. I'm just trying to understand. that's all.
