Jon and Kate Big Announcement?

That's unfortunate. Jon seemed really bullied by Kate, though, so I think it might actually be better for the kids. Having bitter, argumentative parents isn't better than having happy, seperate parents.

I'm not sure if the show ruined their relationship or if it was doomed ever since the beginning, but I can't help but feel bad for the kids, especially the young ones.

The two don't even seem like they're friends anymore, sadly, I doubt the divorce will go smoothly.

The idea of letting the kids stay at the house with the parents switching around is a really good idea though, hopefully it will make it easier.

i feel so bad for anyone who's marriage fails.

i don't think kate is evil or mean. i think she is a good mother (obviously or she wouldn't have a television show and best sellers) but i think we all need to remember that they might not be exactly the same way away from and infront of the cameras. none of us live with kate gosslin, and none of us will ever know what really happens behind their closed doors, when the cameras turn off.

as a fan of the show, my heart is breaking for her, for jon, and for the children. as a human, i cannot place blame in a situation that i am not part of.

i feel bad for everyone in the sad situation.

Not really. Pity, sympathy, and great advertising are how they got the show.

I think Kate's a great mother, too. (And whoever said something about not letting her kid have water, trust me, when you become a parent, you'll realize why she ignored her. We talked about that in my math class). She just seems very, um, aggressive in front of the cameras with her husband.

um. not really.
first they had the sextuplets, then Discovery was doing a miniseries on the parents of multiples. they were ONE family out of i think six that the show centered around. their family was then invited to guest star on oprah, because the ratings for the discovery special skyrocketed. TLC picked them up after oprah. 3 seasons later, kate writes her first book. a year later she's book touring with a second book to follow. her speaking engagements bring thousands and thousands of people from all over the country. they are given hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of opportunities by countless fans who own businesses. they live on a 26 acre ranch, and make more than 3 million dollars per season.

i definitely think it is robbing them and their fans to chalk all of that up to pity. people genuinely like this family.

Yes, she denies her child water because she's thirsty and says there's no time, yet right after that she can take a sip from the bottle? Yet there was no time?
Nope, sorry, that's not a 'pick your battles' moment for me. If you have the time to get a sip from a water bottle, so does your child.

um. not really.

Hm, don't know where anyone said it was all about pity?

In the beginning, yes there was definitely pity involved, mostly from the locals. If you found out your neighbor would have 8 kids in the coming months, would you not feel bad and want to help out?

IDK, maybe it's just I hear a bit more because I live only 2-3 hours away from these guys. Who knows. But what I do know of her, and what I've heard of her, I don't like her. She is demeaning and rude. Does she do what she thinks is best for her children? Yes, every parent should. But she is overbearing in doing so.

ITA. It is very obvious that Jon and Kate absolutely adore their kids and would do anything they can to make sure they are happy. They just couldn't protect them from this situation, and that's very sad.

you just said they got the show because of pity and sympathy. i disagree.

Yes, I know I did. You somehow got that I said it was ALL pity, which I didn't say. :confused3

well the good advertising is false, pity and sympathy are synonyms, so what other conclusion do you expect anyone to come to?

they didn't have good advertising. they got picked up for discovery due to local news shows. then after the one show ("raising sextuplets and twins") oprah called them in. after one appearance on oprah, tlc called them. how is that good advertising? one discovery special put them where they are.

.
If she had given her water, then she would've cried for something else. Like when children are sent to bed, and they come up to you saying they're thirsty. They're not really thirsty, they just want to stay up longer.

It is a 'pick your battles' thing. Kate's the mom; I'm sure she can tell whether or not her child is really thirsty.

Parenting in the real world is a lot different from the stuff you see on TV.

Yes, good advertising is part of the reason they got the show and the show kept going. Seriously, have you seen how many items they name-drop? People who watch the show go "oh, Jon and Kate use it so I should use it too".

Refusing your child a sip of water, then going on to take a sip yourself is NOT a pick your battles thing. That's just downright hypocritical. If I can afford enough time to take a sip from my water, so can my child.

I'm not saying it was about time. Maybe the kid had just drank a bottle of water? We don't know why she did it.

I truly don't think any of us should judge their parenting abilities. We only see what goes on in front of the camera, and reported by the tabloids. Who knows what their family is truly like?

I guess the show is going on hiatus till August. I think it was a good decision. They need to get their lives put back together and to let them be a family, and to have the kids have private time with their mom and dad.

Good idea, those kids don't need any added stress.
Do you know long it's gonna be off air for?

huge name brands like walmart, juicy juice, and coke are all censored on their show. they don't really name drop. yes, they do select things, like the crooked houses, the bakery, and american choppers. but all of those things are sponsored by their network. if its not sponsored by the network, they cannot show the logo. its not really any different than any other show on TLC. american chopper and the little couple and little people big world can show the same brands that jon&kate+8 do.

the episode was SO sad last night. i just can't believe when Jon said that he was "excited" about what was upcoming....really...he's going to be seeing less of his children but excited?
