Ok, so I'm looking up his plan and I come across the following points

- Restore America's Respect in the World and Make us Independent of Mideast Oil
1. Launch and Lead A New Era Of Alliances
Exactly where are they going to get those allies? France? France will not join unless they can lead, they made that abundantly clear during the discussions in the UN over the invasion of Iraq. Perhaps China or Russia? Not if they open bilateral talks with North Korea which he has already promised to do as soon as he is in office. Germany? That would be a big help, especially since he would be coming in after damaging his potential releations with Great Britain, Poland and Australia.

2. Modernize The World's Most Powerful Military To Meet New Threats
Why did they consistently vote to not authorize funding for the modernization? Or do they mean by creating 2 new divisions this will modernize it? News flash for those that don't know how large a division is. The Marine Corps had 4 divisions, and was at (if I remember correctly) 280,000 men and women when I was in. That means about 70,000 men and women per division - let's make it conservative and drop it to 50,000. With 2 new divisions, that is 100,000 more people. I don't think he will be able to fill those divisions with volunteers. So, in reality, we do have a presidential candidate who is calling for a draft, and it is not President Bush.

3. Deploy All That Is In America's Arsenal
He means not just military might, but diplomacy (see point 1), intelligence system (you remember, the one that is so flawed), our economic power (the one that is doing so poorly right now).

4. Free America From Its Dangerous Dependence On Mideast Oil
His plan calls for it to happen in 2020. He won't be president then.

Create New Jobs, Strengthen the Middle Class, and Ensure Educational Opportunity

1. Reward Companies that Create Jobs in America.
This one I have to admit I do like.

2. Strengthen the Middle Class
They will do this by "cutting taxes and investing in health care and education. ". I don't believe this is fiscally possible with the rest of his promises.

3. Invest in the Jobs of the Future
So they will be cutting taxes for those who send their kids to college (a wonderful idea) while giving more taxes to those who would be creating the jobs, so they won't be available when the kids graduate. Hmmm.

4. Restore Fiscal Discipline to Washington
By not voting for fiscal measures that they originally voted for?

Provide High-Quality Health Care, Improve Education, and Strengthen Families

1. Up to $1,000 of Health Care Premium Relief
Why do they need this if they are going to give everyone access to the health care system the Congress has?

2. A Health Plan for Every Child
Sounds great - but financially I don't see it being a reality.

3. Manage Skyrocketing Health Care Costs
2 lawyers are going to manage the skyrocketing health care costs that was caused in part by other lawyers. Thats a tough one to swallow.

4. World Class Education
Again, sounds great, but very expensive - all without added more taxes to us taxpayers who make less than $200,000 a year? Very hard to believe.

5. Every Classroom Has a Great Teacher
Even the children from Never, Never Land. This one is all fluff and no substance - and unbelievable.

6. Every Young Person Graduates
He's going to do this by making schools smaller (ok, good idea, but that means you have to build many more schools) and - oh yea, making the curriculm tougher so that it will be more meaningful - and more difficult for those who are having problems with grades to make it - but they will graduate.

I think his plan is full of wholes. Let the flames begin.

No flames here. I'm still waiting to hear about his "plan", which must be SOOO secret that, when I do hear, he'll have to kill me!

I'm sure the libs will be jumping on here any second, saying that you're just too dumb to underestand. Yeah, that's the problem.

I'm already over my 10 minute per day DIS allottment.
So- you want someone to wiggle their noses and make
Americans responsible oil users? 2020 is MAYBE doable
but you'll have to trash your SUV this year.

Suprise-smaller schools are already being built. Check out
Ohio's Facitlity planning requirements.

AND-is there something
wrong with wanting to improve the quality of teachers in
schools? DH is just finishing his masters so he can teach-he
went back to school part time when we were visiting schools
in our district. Some of the teachers are appalling-I can also
vouch for that as I am a bus driver and see first hand how children are being "handled" by their teachers. This is a noble
goal and ANY progress that can be made in this area is wonderful.
You are happy about NCLB and the lack of support the states have in funding it?

Regarding paying for programs-how was it the current Admin
was going to pay for their war again? Oh yeah, a deficit.
No taxes, just spend money we don't have - great idea!!! sigh

Who better to understand improving the costs of health care
and taking care of tort reform but two lawyers who understand
it thoroughly? A hawk manager of a baseball team?

The things you don't see as reality might not happen because people like you don't really want them to. If we all work together
as a team, we can be socially AND fiscally responsible. Close up
the tax loopholes, keep jobs in the USA and keep children healthy
and able to learn because they are well fed and well rested. In
another 15 to 20 years things could start to look up. If you simply
sit around and say "nay, not possible" it won't happen. Why so
negative about things you SAY sound good to you? Why not be
part of the solution?

Dost thou protest too much?

Hey, I'm not saying that his domestic program can't be done, nor am I saying that we shouldn't try to do many of the things he outlined. However, he isn't just promising these programs. He is promising these programs while we are in the middle of a war, while he promises to lower (or not raise) taxes for those making less than $200,000 per year, while keeping the economy growing, while cutting the deficit. This is what I say he can't do, this is where his "plan" breaks down. A plan that is not possible is not a plan - it's a blueprint for disaster. Just my thoughts.

Is he going to upset his wife when he closes those loopholes for companies doing business overseas? Heinz has a lot of factories not in the U.S.

Um, I don't get why people bring this up as though this is outsourcing. Having manufacturing plants around the world to distribute to those places is NOT outsourcing.

Not flaming here, but I wanted to say that the doofus can reward all he wants but if he is taxing those business owners out the wazoo, they will have to hire out of the country to recoup the tax increase losses, and therefore no jobs!!! I wish Bush was quick thinking enough to have pointed it out.

O.K., but some of those products are distributed here as well, not just in the countries where the products are being made.

I wish Bush was quick thinking enough to have pointed it out.

If Bush was quick thinking a lot more of us might be supporting him.

I wouldn't even dream of flaming you, so I think I'll pass on the invite. :)

What is wrong with dreaming big dreams? I could understand someone looking over the Kerry plan and believing it won't work, but it's almost as if you're afraid to try.

Do we need to be weaned off Middle Eastern oil? Absolutely, and maybe the solution is right in front of us, but we have to try.

Do we need healthcare reform in this country? Of course we do, but just because other country's have had problems doesn't mean we can't do better.

Why can't we work towards better teachers? Why can't we build a better military? Btw, we're going to have to build up a better military because the one we've got is being asked to do too much and is stretched too thin.

I'm more than a little mystified at the defeatist attitude and I mean that with all due respect.

Can you seriously look out over this country and not get the feeling something is not quite right. And it has nothing to do with terrorism or not feeling secure. We're afraid of our own shadows today and we're afraid to try. We approach this war on terrorism as if Al-Qaeda is the greatest military power since the Roman Empire. Final victory in the war on terror is a forgone conclusion. It isn't a question of if, but of when.

I'm just going to walk away shaking my head and hope we start remembering who we are and what we can accomplish if we try.

but you'll have to trash your SUV this year

so is kerry gonna get rid of his? oh wait its his wifes? oh wait its his? (all depends who hes stumping for)

well if those plants were in the U.S. wouldnt that make more manufacturing jobs here?

(guess cheap labor is ok for heinz, but not other companies?)

A. Why would it be okay for Heniz but not other companies?

B. Once again, why would they make ketchup in PA and ship it to Germany? No one would buy that ketchup in Germany because it would cost too much money. This is not outsourcing.

C. Teresa Heinz Kerry does not make decisions for Heniz.

Form snopes.com:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/kerry/heinz.asp

Currently, 60% of the sales of the H.J. Heinz Company are outside the United States and to accommodate those customers by providing facilities closer to those markets, the company maintains a number of overseas facilities that provide products for consumers in those markets. This allows Heinz to pack the freshest ingredients, tailor its recipes to local tastes and deliver the finished products in a timely and efficient manner. In the United States, Heinz makes its flagship ketchup in factories in Fremont, Ohio; Muscatine, Iowa; and Stockton, California.

Do you consider a McDonald's in France outsourcing too?

Reality check....

If Kerry gets elected and all of his "plans" get implemented, you all know darn well that they will be only half as effective as they could ever hope.

Remember, we're talking about the Federal Government.

My thinking on this is if he implements all those plans and cuts taxes, the burden of paying for this will fall to state and local governments. State and local governments are already overburdened...so who gets the shaft? the taxpayers...but not at the federal level! It will be in the form of an increase in school, county, and state taxes. And if you live in a large city then probably city taxes. I don't know about all of you but living in NY State I pay just about all the taxes I can handle.

Hmmmm...smells like corporate welfare to me. I thought that was bad in libs minds.

Why do we think throwing more money at the problem will fix it, when all the money we've thrown at it to date---even during the beloved Clinton Administration-- hasn't appeared to have improved things.

pretend all you want that someone sitting on the board of directors doesnt make choices.
its just ironic someone is whinning about lost jobs, but the company they have a part in has factories outside the U.S.

keep living in your fantasyworld,in the real world if your gonna talk the talk, walk the walk, bring the jobs back to the states!
before you answer back,think............you want jobs in the U.S. or do you want the germans having cheaper ketchup?
you cant have it both ways, either a company can manufacture overseas cheaper, or they can keep the jobs in the U.S.
its really a black and white issue, either your for businesses going overseas for cheap labor,or your for the jobs in the states.

wait a sec here, im think im on to it,Kerry can do whats good for himself, but then tell the people they have to have it another way.

yep thats it,boy did john ever win my vote!!!!!!

1. Reward Companies that Create Jobs in America.

so whats it gonna be? cheap ketchup for other countries or reward companies here in the states?

can you libs even look at yourself in the mirror knowing that this man is playing both sides to better himself?

Well, this "rewarding" is going to come at a cost. Someone is going to have to make up the increased costs of companies keeping jobs here for the sake of keeping jobs here. Unless keeping those jobs here results in increased productivity, thus lowering costs of the goods and services these companies produce, someone is going to have to pay for the difference. It's a zero sum game.
