John Edwards chosen by Kerry as VP

I dunno. Maybe they like his barbeque? :teeth:

I heard on one of the local talk shows that Kerry is the #1 and Edwards is #4 liberal in the Senate, according to their voting records. This was said by Greg Garrison, who is a conservative talk show host out of Indy.

This is clearly liberals vs. conservatives.

I think Kerry made an excellent choice -- can't wait to see John and John tae their oath of office in January and put this country back on the right track! send George back to Texas!

It's OK. We'll take him back in TX and find something for him to do. Just think of it as our payback to the nation for helping send him to Washington in the first place.

All this talk about the Kerry/Edwards ticket being wealthy....
so what?? Look at who is in the White House now, those
2 won't exactly be standing in bread lines when they are done.

Besides, did Edward's law firm ever rip off our military for
millions of dollars??

I think Edwards is an excellent choice. And, if my extremely diverse office is any indication, the initial reaction of a majority of folks agree as well.

OMG i know i'm only a brit an will never understand the American Political system ( i don't even understand my own!)

but surely it's wrong to have a guy who talks to the dead as your VP

...oh whoops sorry guess i'll be going now!

You sidestepped the question Dawn.

No matter though. We all know there isn't anyone Kerry could've picked that you would approve of so your dislike for Edwards is hardly surprising. What's funny is that you can't find anything of substance to complain about so you resort to cheap insults.

My bet is that you secretly wish Kerry had picked almost anyone BUT Edwards.

Ah but you're wrong. The most liberal senator picks the 4th most liberal. It really does define the Democratic party, don't you think?

No, actually, I'm not wrong. You're still sidestepping the question.

Interesting bit of history sent to me by a friend:

A list of lawyers:

John Adams
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
James Monroe
John Quincy Adams
Andrew Jackson (That one surprised me- Old Hickory had no formal education, yet he became a lawyer; but then again, in those days you studied law by being apprenticed to a lawyer.)
Martin Van Buren
John Tyler
James Polk
Millard Fillmore
Franklin Pierce
James Buchannon
Abraham Lincoln
Rutherford B. Hayes
Chester Arthur
Grover Cleveland (he was president twice- separated by a term, hence the discrepency between 42 presidents and 43 presidencies)
William McKinley
Theodore Roosevelt
William Howard Taft
Calvin Coolige
FDR
Richard Nixon
Gerald Ford
Bill Clinton

-------------------

Seems to me that puts John Edwards in pretty good stead- considering the percentage- and considering that among the notable non-lawyers one finds:

US Grant
Warren Harding
Herbert Hoover
(not to mention Reagan and both Bush's).

This is a major step for Kerry towards the center. He bypassed Kennedy and went to the forth liberal. :p :p

And you're still sidestepping....Then again, I can't say as I blame you. Facts are hard to come, tossing out meaningless quips are easy.

Just remember that Kerry is bipartisan...he got alot of his money from his wife who in turn got it from her Republican husband...the late Senator John Heinz. I am not a lover of Kerry but he will definitely get my vote now that he has picked John Edwards. I'm glad that Kerry went with some young blood--not Gephardt, Graham, etc.

A while ago, George W. came to our city and made a big deal out of the Pennsylvania doctors leaving the state--he had a meeting at a competing hospital and promised to do something...what has he done...nothing.

As far as the idea that John Edwards has no foreign policy experience...I actually think maybe he has more than the current president had when he was elected.

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln also had no formal education.

Although Lincoln wasn't a personal injury lawyer.

I think Kerry made a wise choice...and a good choice in selecting John Edwards for VP....

an....this may not carry an significance to anyone...but it does to me...Edwards was HIS choice...

as I remember, then candidate Bush hired Cheney to help in the VP selection in 2000...Cheney came back that he was the best choice, not anyone on candidate Bush's list... and this was backed up by former President Bush......

this choice was accepted without much further ado...

that episode always left me uncomfortable with now President Bush's leadership qualities and abilities......

so....for that reason..and many others....

the Kerry/Edwards ticket will get my vote....

Actually it's Kerry/Edwards vs. Ignorance/Arrogance.

I had never heard that story until today on the news. It kind of left me going "HUNH????" They put him in charge of the decision, and he came back and announced HE was the best choice????? wow

You know, I'm 100% convinced that Kerry could have chosen Jesus Christ himself, and the conservatives would call him an unemployed, hippy communist from a broken home that likes to hang out with prostitutes  And they'd have at least three witnesses saying that he supported the war in Iraq before pulling that support, too :teeth:

Isn't it an absolute hoot watching Eddie (Enron) Gillespie, the former Enron lobbyist and current RNC chairman, call John Edwards a trial lawyer as if it was a truly dishonorable, crooked thing. Grant you it isn't as honorable as being an Enron lobbyist.............. ;)

But, I'm curious...since when does experience mean so much to a Bush supporter ? He was completely clueless about foreign policy before taking office...couldn't even name several prominent world leaders. Targeting edwards while supporting Bush just makes you look hypocritical.

Excuse me, what do you mean "was completely clueless"? Bush is still completely clueless. What kind of a moron would commit troops to Iraq and not make provisions for any kind of insurgency?

I don't think "military experience" has ever been called 100% essential by John Kerry. I think he has stated that his experience gives him an insight into the military that Bush, being a chickenhawk (my term, not Kerry's) can not appreciate, since he never served. Again, twisting the facts doesn't prove your point, it makes you look desperate.

Desperate is the word. The Bush orgasmatrons would give their eye teeth for one of those PH's Kerry has.

Yes FaithinKarma....it left me going "HUH?" when it was happening....

You see, Tom Ridge, a fellow Erie-ite, was Governor of PA then....and ALL the Erie media ...and other PA news outlets...kept reporting Ridge was on the "short list" for VP pick....

they were gushing about how someone from Erie PA could be in such a hgh position and with such National prominence...

so, when Cheney got hired to be the advisor, the media waited....probably had the stories written and the headlines made ready for print...with the expectation that Ridge was the natural selection...

then...Ridge was not selected...and the Erie media started eating crow and making excuses...sidesteppng the issue that Cheney selected himslef and Daddy Bush also Ok'ed it...

then, the Harrisburg media caught Ridge...i think it was October 2000....abd reported that Ridge was never on the "short list" for VP......and Ridge admitted he lied during this reporting period...

the main point to me...and still is...that Cheney got the nod...and he wasn't on the list either....but now President Bush didn't think enough about Cheney to put him on HIS list....
and didn't stand up for those he did have on his list....

no matter how I look at it.... a poor example of leadership
