anyone ever heard of him?

he was a jazz musician who died in 1967.

I'd never heard of him until this year. it seems he used to live in my town, and now they're trying to give his old home "landmark status."

Briar Rose,
I hope you're prepared to duck when admitting you haven't ever heard of John Coltrane. He's considered to be one of the greatest jazz musicians ever produced by this country - an unmatched innovator who changed the course of jazz. So..........
be prepared for some gentle ribbing. :p :p

Absolutely!!!! :teeth: He was voted best sax musician of the CENTURY!!!!! He happens to be from my home town, although he moved from there when still a baby. His music can be heard most days streaming from my home. Nobody like him! Do you like his music???

Very cool guitarist. I'd support saving his home...hey, they did it for John Lennon and Paul McCrtney...I hear Ringo's childhood home is due to be torn down tho:(
oops! I thought guitar!:o shame on me!

I love John Coltrane's music! :teeth: We listen to a lot of jazz here.

Most Definitely. John Coltrane and Miles Davis.....The Yin and Yang of Jazz!!

my DS10 loves jazz and absoultely adores his CD's

I would recommend visiting a nearby library. If Coltrane did live in that area, they probably have some of his albums or maybe even some CD's that you would be able to listen to or even check out.
My personal favorite is a song called, 'My Favorite Things'. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm amazed that a songbird like yourself doesn't know John Coltrane, BR. :p

Did you see the movie w/Richard Dreyfuss, he plays a music teacher and his son is born deaf? Wish I could think of the name, I am drawing a blank. Anyway, in the movie, he names his child Cole after John Coltrane. We were pregnant at that time, and DH (also a Coltrane fan) wanted to do the same with our son. We ended up going with Luke in the end.

You should check out his music, I think you would like it.

wasn't the movie "Mr. Holland's Opus"?

a songbird knows music -- or where to find out about music.

Galahad, do you know the one called BLUE IN GREEN with Miles Davis or RUBY, MY DEAR with Thelonious Monk? Both those songs melt the world away for me. Great to put on after a bad, bad day!!! :teeth:
