Okay - here's MY take (Michele, the DW).
For all those complaining about children and strollers at WDW - GET A LIFE! Adults AND children are what Disney is about. There are going to be rude, inconsiderate people every we go - oh, well.
We have taken our own stroller for the last seven years, never an umbrella stroller.
We try to be considerate - but accidents do happen - and they are usually caused by people just not paying attention.

I hate renting a stroller at Disney. There's the rush to get in there before they're all gone (one more line). The fact that they all look alike - so where is yours? They're hard on the kids' bottoms. Tiny wheels that don't handle bumps well - and try running with one! (That's DH's job. :p ) I really could go on ...

I have been at Disney and heard remarks that it would be a fun place if not for the kids, etc.
I figure those people don't have children, or have them and don't like them. We all need a little tolerance and compassion when dealing with our fellow man. So there. :p

Thank you all for saying exactly what I've been feeling! I knew I wasn't the only one out there.!

I will continue to research and figure out what will be best for my family!

Look out ankles...3 weeks to go!

Check the "Safety Considerations" section on the inside of your park guide map or reference the safety announcements at rope drop... no one should be running anywhere.

Personally, having girls 6, 4,and 1, I recommend a compact stroller with a basket that folds flat and is light weight. I took a jogger one year and found the monorails and trams to be a pain to negotiate with one (They were bulky and didn't flatten well). My 6 year old will only sit in the small stroller briefly and she is 55 pounds they can usually handle the extra weight for brief periods of time. Note: I didn't chose an umbrella stroller, but the next size up.:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

Steve, Dear -

We do use these at other places than WDW - and we do run with them at other places.
Personally, with little kids - rope drop isn't a concern for me - I leave that to the teenagers, etc.
Must admit, in the many years I've been going to Disney - I don't think I've ever read the "Safety Considerations" secton on the inside of the park guide map (never even noticed it) you referenced - I'll have to check it out.
Anyhow-
Lighten up, Dude:)

When the park is crowded, most of the time it's impossible to tell, because your whole line of traffic will just stop and there's a big pile up. If you've got a stroller, I just think you should stay far enough away from the people in front of you in case the line comes to an abrupt stop. So many times strollers "tailgate", and you just know you're going to get hit.

But I know this isn't a debate about strollers. I think, and this is just what I've observed so I don't know if it's true - that they are more lenient when it's not so crowded about the kind of thing they let people in the parks with. I've heard people on buses complaining that they wouldn't let their oversized stroller in and made them rent different ones, and on light days I've seen strollers just like the ones that had not been let in all over the place. I think you can try to bring your stroller in, but be prepared to be stopped and asked to rent one.

I don't see why you have to tell Safari Steve to lighten up. He's just pointing out information he has as a CM at WDW. I, personally, appreciate his informative posts. I agree with him that running while pushing a stroller isn't a very good idea.

Regarding jogging strollers, I've heard in another 'heated' thread here that they are getting stricker about not letting you use jogging strollers if the front wheel sticks way out and if it does not turn. That they make you use one of theirs.

I prefer a lightweight, easy to fold umbrella stroller for my 2 DD's.

Like others have said, though, the rudness goes both ways, absoultely. I've been cut off by stroller people. I've had my ancles hit. But I've also been pushing my stroller and had someone cut right in front of us or stop short. I try to stay at least 2 feet behind the people in front of me if possible.

They will never ban all strollers at Disney because it's is a family place so everyone on both sides of the fence needs to be more considerate.

We had this same dilemma prior to our last trip. We had a front-to-back traidtional double stroller that our oldest (just turned 5, 46 inches tall, 45 pounds) daughter didn't fit into very well. We decided to get a double jogging stroller for our WDW trips since their design allows the kids to get into and out of them extremely easily. We did a lot of research and found the almost-perfect model.

It has a large weight capacity of 150 pounds (most jogging strollers have a weight limit of 100 pounds), had extra wide seats, had large rear wheels for ease of pushing and shock absorption, the foot rest was far below the seat bottom (most jogging strollers have the foot rest only a few inches below the seat bottom), had a sun canopy, and rain and bug guards, AND BEST OF ALL had a two front-wheel set-ups. You could configure it as a traditional jogging stroller with the large FIXED wheel up front or you could take off that wheel and stick on an assembly made up of two smaller wheels that SWIVEL. The swivelling front wheels with the rest of the stroller being like a jogging stroller is exactly what we wanted for WDW.

The fixed, large front wheel of most jogging strollers requires that you tilt up the front of the stroller to make turns. It is also pretty impossible to navigate in stores with those large wheels. Also, I think Disney is concerned about the wheel sticking out so far in front. They think that people will trip over these wheels. If they ever ban jogging strollers from the parks, this will be the reason why.

Anyway, the one we picked worked out almost-perfectly. The only problem is with folding up the stroller during transportation around WDW. Actually, I think this is an issues with almost all jogging strollers (especially double ones) since their large wheels make it difficult to fold-up into a small unit. Any way, the way ours folds-up is a little cumbersome, but I never had to do that during our January visit. We stayed at VWL and took the boat to MK. The stroller fits onto the boat (and even down the aisles on most boats) very nicely. It would NOT fit onto a monorail or bus without folding up though. However, we never rode the monorail or bus during that trip. We take our car to the other parks. Since we have a large SUV (Excursion) we don't even have to fold-up the stroller to put it in the car.

It turns out that the stroller we purchased is the exact same double stroller provided for guests to rent at Disney Studios. So they'll never be able to ban our stroller from the parks. Here is a link to the website for the stroller manufacturer. (By the way, they also have a triple-wide.)

The suggested retail price is pretty steep. But we found it at a great price through another seller. Let me know if you want that seller's info and I'll get it to you.

While I agree with you in theory, everytime I do leave extra space in front of my stroller, someone jumps in to fill it or walks between me in the empty space. This causes me to stop short to avoid hitting them!!

To the OP - if your comfy with the jogger and can manuver it well then bring what works for your family. Since I haven't had experience with a jogger it wouldn't be a good choice for me as I have a hard time with the front wheel. Also your primary mode of transportation to the parks should be considered. A big jogger can be a hassle on the tram or bus.

I guess unless you can get a definative answer from WDW you will have to be prepared to exchange your jogger for a rental if it happens to be "Prohibited" I think it would be nice to find out ahead of time, have you written or e-mailed?

Personally after my girls were older than 2ish I just found the rentals to be the most convenient. They hold a larger chilid, they are easy to get in and out of and you don't have to lug them on the transportation or worry about them getting stolen. It can get pricy but we just figure it into the cost of the vacation.

While we're on the subject, I just wanted to add some more things to watch out for.

Wagons are not allowed at all.

Any stroller that can't fit through the gates at the front of the park will not be allowed (if you have to lift it over, it's a no-go).

Also (just had a problem with this yesterday) the gates near the turnstiles are to be opened by CMs only. Please don't try to open them yourself, and wait until your ticket goes through the turnstile for the CM to open them.
