My husband had no clue who The Weeknd was, but I knew him because of “50 Shades of Gray.”
I suppose you earned it.

I was surprised by him as a choice as well, but it’s been a strange year. All that said, even though I like him okay, I was surprised he was the Super Bowl halftime show performer. His songs just aren’t the typical fun, high energy type songs for a performance like the Super Bowl halftime show.
DittoI had to google who the artist was, and I still haven't heard of him. Guess I'm officially old elevator music bands now.
It is not about being Canadian, he is an internationally well-known artist.
And then there's the Selena/Bella/Justin/The Weeknd square to add to that.
Oh man, the sound was HORRID right out of the gate. So kind of killed Starboy. What a song to kill, an absolute shame to have technical issues right away. But happy that improved.
And then the funhouse kind of took away from Can't Feel My Face, in my opinion.
To me, he is one of those writers/singers where his songs will sound current when they are decades old. I think he is that talented. Especially with songwriting.
Too bad the entire set didn't play like Blinding Lights. But very happy it ended that way.
I suppose you earned it.![]()
Yeah good show, good performance, but it won't be remembered because it there wasn't that sizzle people expect from these the show.It was a good show. Nothing controversial. No political statements. No shenanigans. Just a good show. I assumed the bandages/masks were a take on the plastic surgery recovery bandages he had worn previously. He has that "I Can't Feel My Face" song. He was no Bruno Mars but it was good.

And yet, so many have never heard of him.
That's the guy's name, the weekend?
He’s been nominated and/or won several Grammys over the last 5 or so years, but he’s Canadian, so I’m not surprised many of you don’t know him.

Maybe they wanted someone not as famous, less cheering in the audience and all. Lol.
Yeah, my husband may not have known who he was, but he’s been thankful that I‘m familiar w/ his work. ;-)
That is something I appreciate about The Weeknd, every song is completely distinct. He seems fearless that way.
To be honest I thought that Mahomes did well despite having backups on his O line. He had some impressive escapes and there were more than a few drops by his receivers.I'm pretty sure the only thing that will be remembered from this Super Bowl is watching Patrick Mahomes caving under the pressure. And to be fair I can't really remember any particular halftime show...other than the "wardrobe malfunction" and Katy Perry on a giant tiger.
Performers have been offered payment in the past but I remember reading that U2 was the first to not take any payment for performing. But I do believe that they're given a budget to create their show.I find all of the Super Bowl halftime shows to be too frantic/hectic like they have to jam too much into the time they have. I doubt he used his own money to produce the show. Read an article the other day where the performers don't get paid to perform since the exposure they get with such a large viewing audience is supposed to help their career. No idea who this performer was until I read something about him the other day. His name is spelled that way since there was already another Canadian performer who spells it the usual way.
