Job Didn't Pay Direct Deposit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....update

The way I look at it is: as long as I get paid, I'm happy! :teeth:

In defense of Shugardrawers, since we work for the same company, if they have to mail you a check, you will be lucky if you get it within the week you were supposed to be paid. Not to mention our company practically shoves DD down our throats and all but insists we take it, yet the can't seem to start someone's direct deposit account without screwing it up 6 different ways first.

Lauri, I'd kill to be on direct deposit but they can't seem to get it set up!! 7 months I've been waiting and whining but noooooooo! Pay day falls every other friday and my check shows up in the mail anywhere from saturday to a week from the following monday (that's 10 days past payday). Which reminds me, with us moving next week I need to call payroll... again ...and whine... again ...so the check doesn't get sent back to them. Sigh...for all the good it will do me.

Our job switched payroll offices last week, but payday was to remain the same. No one's direct deposit went thru!!!!! (all different banks, so not a bank error)

My rent check was deposited last night and if it goes thru tonight, it will bounce. :sad2: What do I do???? This is only my second rent to my new apartment.

Does my work have to cut me a paper check today? Or can they tell me I have to wait for them to fix the direct deposit?

I have no money.

I don't know what to tell my landlord if it does bounce. The truth seems like a lie. :sad2:

I work in payroll....so I would have a couple of questions.

Did they just move offices or did they also change systems.

If it was just an office change then all should have went as planned. If there was a system change most the time you have to add all the accounts to the new system and then send a 2 week prenote to the bank to "verify" all was entered correctly.

If it was a system change then Payroll SHOULD have a check for you today!

No not a month of wages gone by before like someone mentioned...THAT'S AGAINST THE LAW!!!

It could be a month depending on the hours missing and why...but a whole paycheck due to system change...you would not have to wait a month.

If you were missing a couple of days here or there due to you not entering time or the supervisor not entering time then yes that could be a couple of paychecks, but that is not tha case here.

If they stayed on the same systems then maybe the federal reserve never rcvd the file (there was an error in transmission) or they never sent it out. I would assume the first more than the last.

ALSO......Banks have until the end of business day to process a direct deposit file...now almost all banks out of courtesy deposit for morning, but if they rcvd the file late that would lead to them posting it late.

Either way money would post that day and no fees from bank.

Hopefully it all gets worked out.

Hope they get everything worked out for you. After a week vacation to spend with my Mom,upon my first day back at work, I got laid off with another Supervisor. So not only was I totally shocked at this after 9 years with them, but they didn't even offer another of the several openings within the company.

But anyway, the following Wed. was company wide payday. After my manager stated I would be able to pick up my check, they tell me the Tuesday afternoon before payday, no-can't pick up- policy is ex-employees checks are to be mailed. But promised to get it in that evenings mail run, so I would probably have it the next day or latest, the day after (which I would had thought would be about right, since the COBRA paperwork they sent me arrived the day after I was laid off). That Friday's mailrun still brought no check. I contacted the HR dept. and told them I needed my money that day. They stated they would not be able to run a check on that day. I contacted DOL, and they stated I was entitled to be paid on the regular payday (which had past), but due to it was mailed, it now involved a 3rd party (USPS) and I needed to give it to Monday's mailrun. (But they did inform me, they would look into it if needed, but it could be 2-3 weeks until it was resolved). Well, of course, still nothing on Monday. I contacted the HR dept. again and told them I would be contacting the DOL again today. They told me to come pick up my check on Tuesday morning. They have given me a severance deal, and those checks I am now authorized to pick up. I got my money, but a week late, plus they really made me feel like I was not to even come by there, after THEM laying ME off. Needless to say, I will not frequent their retail or outlet stores any longer.

We had this happen at work last November for 3000+ employees!! The agency that makes our payments was trying a new system and apparently the person who pressed the button to make the payments didn't switch it back on and therefore it went through as a test and hence no payments!! To make it worse it was a Friday and we didn't get the payment to our bank accounts until the following Tuesday. Work agreed if we had any charges relating to bounced payments if we provided evidence they would pay for it, luckily my payments weren't due til 10 days after pay day.

This happened to me many years ago. My employer WAS my bank (I worked for Citicorp) and they neglected to tell me that because I changed status mid pay cycle, it wouldn't be direct deposited for that one check.

They were good. Wrote letters to my apartment complex and the two other companies I'd writtend checks to. When the apt complex refused to budge on the bounced check fee, I got it back from my employer.

Let the rental office know. This is not something that you could have foreseen.

In 7 years of DD, only once has my company goofed up, and that's when they paid us TWICE. Unfortunatly, they noticed and the extra money was withdrawn the next day! :(

Better too much than too little! OP, I'm glad you got paid!

Well, what a *timely* thread.

Me and another person at work are responsible for preparing the direct deposit file. We've been doing this for 3 years with only one "hiccup" in that amount of time. Guess what happened today? No one's pay showed up in their account (including my own). The file was sent on Monday. Right now we have no idea what happened as we have a record of the transmission. Egads.

My money was deposited this morning. :)

They never said what happened, just technical problems. They are paying all fees for any bounced checks. My rent check didn't even present for payment yet, so that was good!

And whoever said about me paying before money was there, well I guess you are right. But I gave them the check when I "knew" I would have the money in my account the next day. (have had direct deposit for 8 years w/out a problem!)
Won't be doing that again.

thanks everyone! :teeth:

It was me who said that and I understand what you mean.

But it is considered floating checks.

auto transfers are different as they would be scheduled the same day or within a few days of the expected deposit when it would already be there. Writing a check dated before you have money in the account is different at least in their eyes if they wanted to be stinkers about it. And they do have a point.

sounds to me like they didn't sent the file in time..or at all....lol Glad to hear all is good now.

In the state of Pennsylvania, this is considered check kiting and it is illegal. So, it is probably a good idea not to do it again. Sorry you had this problem though.

okay, thanks. :)

Your jails must be full!! :teeth:

All those who've never written a check until the money was actually physically in their account and available raise your hand.

Don't feel too bad. It may be illegal but 99% of us have, and 99% of us learn a harsh lesson about it at some point.

I don't think anyone was skirting the notion that they may have done in the past. Just alerting that in that instance---it is up to the genorisity of the bank and/or company where the dd didn't transact properly and just an alert to be more careful.

We dont' do that with our checks (anymore)--but it wouldn't be the company's fault if a check bounced b/c it was dated before you actually planned to have money in the account. That's all.

No, no...I agree with you lol. It's not a smart move and it's no ones fault but our own when this kind of thing happens. I just wanted the op to know that while it's illegal, all of us have done it at some point and most of us have paid the price for it.
