So how many of you have ever had a job? Was it hard to start applying. I applied at a local movie theatre and the email they sent to me seemed kind of rude. I was just asking if there was a number that I could contact about my application. I might be overreacting but it kind of upset me. Is there any tips that you guys have that might help me? I live in Connecticut and lets just say there aren't that many jobs around. So I applied absolutely everywhere I could see myself working. I was pretty picky when it came to jobs. I knew where I didn't want to work which pretty much eliminated a lot of places but regardless I applied at American Eagle, Gap Kids, The Disney Store (go figure), Old Navy and many others. My problem was that I had no work experience. That's what killed me on every application. Eventually I figured out that my internship counted as experience, but it still wasn't the right kind of experience employers were looking for (I found that out at my interview at Old Navy). I did get a job at Sam's Club. Now I never wanted to work in a grocery type store, but I had to start somewhere. So after a while I gave in and applied there and I got the job. To tell you the truth it's not so bad either.

So my advice is don't be too picky, you have to start somewhere especially if you don't have a lot of experience. Also contact the places you applied to on the "progress of your application" (that's always a good line to use). You said you wanted a phone number to the movie theatre you applied to. Did you e-mail them for the phone number? I would call one of the main lines and see if they could transfer your call to the management office. If you don't call, go to the movie theatre and talk with the managment staff.

yea, I live in CT too. And seeing as I wont be 16 till the end of the summer most places wont even give me an application. But I applied to a pet store and I still haven't heard anything. But what you should do is just go to the actual place and ask if there are any job openings and then they will either say yes and give you an application, ask you how old you are and depending on your age will or wont give you an application, or say no we aren't hiring or we arent looking for anyone at the moment.

I applied at Subway and got it. But then the problem arrised. When would I work there. I was doing school and swim team. So eventually I realized that I wasn't going to work there because of how busy I was. I somewhat regret that but now I am doing 20hrs of sports a week so work isnt really an option.

Past experience is a great thing to have when getting a job, but if you don't have any it is hard to start out. The first job I got was with one of my brothers older friends helping him set up audio systems. This was at age 14. 6 years and 5 jobs later I now work for Walt Disney World, and have had no problem getting that job or any in between then. My advice see if you can get a job with someone local that you or your family knows then put it on your resume so the next time you apply for a job you have some past experience.

You what really sucks? That most can't get work without experience, and you can't get experience without work. It's one of life's really cruel conundrums(sp?). Anyways this summer I was going to apply at a few places. But instead I'm just going to be the regular baby sitter for these people across the street. Kinda pathetic but oh well.

I have been applying everywhere for about the past month. No one seems to be hiring. I picked up 14 more applications today. My only advice is be persistant. Give the company a call and tell them you are still very interested in the job and like to know the status of your application.

A good way to get work experience without a paying job is to volunteer. I volunteered at my school's blood drive at the beginning of the year, and I also tutored kindergartners at my local elementary school.

I've never applied for a job, but I do have one. It's always best to start out with family jobs. They give experience and never ask for much. Then you apply for jobs that require minimal experience, then after a while when you get enough experience, you'll be able to get any job you want. My dad is... amateur mechanic, amateur electrician, entrepreneur, etc. He mainly builds and opens restaurants nowadays, and normally sells them to family. He needs the skills of mechanic and electrician to help fix everyday problems at the four or so restaurants he opened in our area. Best advice for applying for jobs: variety.

It was easy for me to apply, I applyed to one place, Wegmans Food Markets and got hired, blah I have to go through the job applying business in August, I recently moved and had to leave Wegmans, it wasn't cool. lol.
