Joaquin Phoenix is no longer acting

It it's true, my wife will be disappointed. She likes him.

He looked under the influence of something to me, but he could just be sick of it all. He started acting when he was very young.

I don't care...he is very odd. Just another weird celebrity I don't relate to in the least. But, good luck to him in his music career.

It's not like he has stopped performing completely, or is going into seclusion. He's going to be doing music now. Acting is a hard business. If he feels like he's done what he has wanted to do and has found another passion, good for him.

This is the only profession where if people don't do it consistently or want to voluntarily leave it, that either they've failed, have become a has-been, or there's something wrong with them.

His brother is the late River Phoenix. Tragic story, the whole family is unconventional. I love his acting though.

I love Jaoquin. I have seen him interviewed a few times and he is extremely shy (believe it or not). He does not like a lot of people paying attention to him (especially when he is talking or being interviewed). I've seen him say that a few times. Maybe he was just uncomfortable? It would not surprise me though if he was under the influence of something as well. What a life though? He lost his brother at a young age, he came from a family of basically gypsies.
Maybe he lost his love for acting when he didn't earn an Oscar for his incredible role as Johnny Cash, which he totally deserved an award for that. Anyway, I'll be excited to see if he does pursue a music career. However, would that be any better for the substance use? Not that he for sure was on something in that video clip, but.....:rolleyes1 Anyway, maybe he made that comment as a stunt TO promote his music career.
Afterall, he is much of a buzz right now on the web because of that statement, and who knew before today that he had an album coming out?

I think that he is just another whack job that got into acting, and when they begin to get successful, they start listening to the voices in their heads.(mostly drug induced)

I think they are in such an artifical world, surrounded by people that don't really give them good advice or life examples that they make very poor life decisions.

The only thing I see that his agent will use his "retirement" to raise the fee for the next movie that they want him in.

that is, if they can get to him before he overdoses, or gets in a car wreck.

Wow, that was really weird. There aren't too many actors I like, but he's definitely one I'd looked forward to watching him grow and mature (like Redford). So sad if that won't happen.

I would miss him. I loved him in Gladiator and Walk the Line. I think he should have gotten an Academy Award for both.

Ya, he does seem like he's on something, but I think he's been through rehab at least once, and it wouldn't surprise me if he needed to go back.

Hopefully he does do something productive and not wasteful with the rest of his life.

He had a great movie career. I wish him luck with his music career.

If music flops, he'll make an acting comeback. This is not rocket science.

I agree that he looked high on something. And, when did he get a lisp?

Hollywood won't suffer. There are hundreds of "the next Joaquin Phoenix" bussing tables. This could be their big break.

I heard the interview the other day on YO on E!. Didn't Keanu Reeves say the same thing a few years ago too?

I think sometimes they just need a break and will come back when they feel ready.

I think he is a really talented young man, who comes from a very unconventional family so anything is possible.

He probably does have a lot of personal demons. His parents are absolute whack jobs - I remember reading they didn't educate them because they didn't want the influences of traditional school affecting them. Yet they let them go to Hollywood at a young age! :scared1: :confused3

I hope he changes his mind. I think he's a great actor and soooooooooooooo sexy.

Hey...I've got the exact same pair of shades!! :cool2:

Seriously though, Joaquin Phoenix did some research about New York nightlife for his movie, We Own the Night, at a club in the Meatpacking District that my buddy used to run. They worked pretty closely for a couple weeks and he told me that Joaquin couldn't have been more gracious and cool. It's sad to see him like that...he's definitely effed up.

I love him and I think he is a great actor. I can watch Walk the Line over and over again. He was also great in Ladder 49, Gladiator, Signs just to name a few.

I wish him the best and I hope before it's too late that he gets help if that is what he needs - he definitely sounds like he is on something for this interview.
