Once again WDWMagic has the scoup on JIYI.
They are saying that the attraction is closing on OCT. 8th for the MUCH NEEDED rehab. The reopening date is June 24th. I hope this is enough time to undo the damge of the last "rehab"
I guess time will tell.

You can read the details over at http://www.wdwmagic.com/whatsnew.htm

Also mentioned of note is the closing of The Lion King show at the Magic Kingdom in Fantasyland. Steve has been told that it will close it's doors for good sometime in 4/02, with Mickey's Philharmonic replacing it some time in 9/03. He also mentions that MP has a very robust budget at this point in time with full endiorsement from Michael Eisner, which is a very good sign of things to come.

Is Tony really involved in this rehab? I hope so!

The thing that concens me is.. can they really do this attraction justice in less than one year and 5 million dollars? Does anyone know how much Buzz Lightyear and Pooh cost to build and how long they took? I think this would be a similar type of rehab (using the same show building and ride track). I suppose we will see soon enough. At least they are trying to fix it!

The show building itself was never altered from its original state. One thing that will definitely not happen is a return of the turn-table. Giant steel rods were driven through it into the ground so that it could perform its new job... as the loading platform for JIYI.

Space42- the atricle on WDWMagic says the 5 million has been increased, but it doesn't say by how much. I too am concerned about the timeframe for this project, but anything would be an improvement over what we have now.

I assume that this won't be a total conversion of JIYI, but rather a series of fixes and replacements while maintaining the theme of the current ride.
For instance, they might tear out that ridiculous color experiment and put something Figment-related in there, but other things, such as the cool ending (I hope), will probably be retained.
$ 5 million should be adequate to turn JIYI from an abysmal to an okay ride.

Yes, this is what I am figuring.

:) I agree. I'll keep my expectations low. That way I won't be dissapointed with the outcome. It wouldn't be so sad if the original attraction wasn't so wonderful. The current attraction is a slap in the face to the original one. In fact, it laks everything that made the first one so great!

Wow, this attraction really stinks. I'm soo glad that they're redoing it. FINALLY!!

So, is there any more information about this.
Looks like next Monday will be the closing day!

I wonder if they are going to announce the new ride then or wait until the press even in December?

My kids just love JIYI in its current form. I guess they are the only ones.

They love the train sound and seeing themselves in the mirror at the end. Their favorite section is the upside room. Anything remotely involving a truck is a hit with my 6 year old. And of course, 6 7 & year old boys find toilets to be hilarious.

Oh well, I know that my guys were in the minority.
