Planogirl said:Dawn, you also don't have an objective view! That's quite obvious.
Personally, I would take one Jimmy Carter over a dozen warmongers or over 100 people who do nothing but gripe but that's just my unobjective view.

Nearly dumped my little dog (sleeping in my lap) onto the floor!I don't disagree (as I said earlier) with those who say that he was an ineffective President. I just don't agree with some of the more hateful things that have been said about his activities since his term in office. Those are two different subjects.DawnCt1 said:Its a good thing that the American voters disagreed with you and voted him out. The world map would look very different these days. I don't think that there are many people who can look at the Carter Administration objectively and say that it was a success.

goofygirl said:Why do you say that? The world map would have changed regardless. I think Communism was on its way to falling anyway regardless of who was POTUS. I know the Repubs like to credit Reagan with that which is ridiculous. They actually believe that the Berlin Wall came down because Reagan said it should be torn down. Gimme a break!
Reagan also cut from the poor and was called a "Robin Hood in reverse", giving tax breaks to the rich, and putting more money into arms and Star Wars, while school lunch programs got cut. IMHO, Reagan is the most overrated POTUS in history, and Carter is underrated.
Puffy2 said:At least the hostages actually came home alive (even if it was done as an insult by delaying their release until Reagan took his oath). We have hostages taken and murdered on a regular basis with this Iraq thing, and NOT ONCE has the media voiced any outrage at Bush's inability to gain their freedom.
Jimmy is also a nuclear physicist .
What many conservatives really want these days is a strong, deeply religious, very patriotic dictator. They nearly have it with Bush.
gina2000 said:Carter also was the first president to finance the covert Afghani operation in which the US funded Afghani rebels against the Soviet Union when they invaded in 1979. That war is largely credited with the downfall of the Soviet Union. The aftermath, unfortunately, resulted in a rising of the Taliban in the mid 90s.
No one president is completely successful nor a complete failure. While Carter will not be remembered as an outstanding negotiator or an effective president, he does have some important, albeit overlooked, accomplishments associated with his term.

Planogirl said:I'm puzzled.... The Conservatives always say that things were good during Clinton's years due to former Presidents. So why weren't things bad during Carter's term due to former Presidents? I don't see how you can have it both ways. Maybe you can explain that to me Dawn. Or you Joe. Or anyone stirring the pot on this thread for that matter.
As for President Carter, I admire him greatly and don't see anything wrong with him trying to work out issues peacefully. I realize that many of you think that attacking and killing is the answer to everything but many of us don't.
Also Dawn, you mentioned a worst President award. Who hands that out and where can I read about it? Let's not get into biased sources from either side if we can avoid it.
Bush is strong, religious, and patriotic.
Nearly a dictator?? Pray tell, what is this based on?Bush is strong, religious, and patriotic.
Puffy2 said:and just to clear up the education history of Carter:
http://www.engology.com/engpg5ajimmycarter.htm
"Carter began his career as a naval engineer after receiving a B.S. degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946. In 1950 the navy decided to build its first ship since the end of World War II and Lt. Carter, who had become a submariner, was assigned to represent the navy with the precommissioning engineering for a new type of submarine. After the navy decided to build two nuclear submarines, he was selected for this service. He was assigned first to the Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, D.C, then to Schenectady, N.Y. as senior officer of the crew of the "Sea Wolf," which was under construction. He took graduate work from Union College in reactor technology and nuclear physics, supervised the training of the crew, and assisted with the construction of the power plant. "

1. Illegal wiretapping of Ameican citizens.
2. Expanding the so called Patriot Act to monitor library records of American citizens.
3. Seeking to monitor the internet searches of American citizens.
4. Paying the media to report on stories that are favorable to the Bush Administration policies.
5. Punishing insiders who speak out against Bush Administration policies.
6. Planting "reporters" in press confrences to ask questions favorable to the Bush Administration.
7. Requiring "loyalty oaths" before allowing Ameican citizens to attend any Bush so-called "town meetings".
8. Arresting peaceful protesters for "wearing clothing that speaks out against the Bush Administration" at these so-called "town meetings".
Good grief, that's just of the top of my head. What is WRONG with some of you people who continue to support this fasicist administration? Will you only wake up when they finally take your cable tv, foot ball games and delicious snacks away? As long as you have bread and circuses your good, right?
