Can anyone tell me more about Jillian's than what I've found on their web site? It looks like a fun place.... but I'm wondering how expensive it is. How much per game of pool, for example? Is it a very young crowd? I'm 41, DH is going on 40... would we feel out of place?

Thanks for any info! :)

Ive been there a couple times. Its a lot of fun. I cant really remember the prices. Ive only been when I was in my 20s but if I remember right there were pretty much all ages. Its definitely not your typical pool hall...much more upscale.
We have always had fun there.

If you are in the area you might want to try Jake Ivory's. Its a dueling pianos/sing along type place. Its wicked fun!

Enjoy!

Depends on the night you attend. From Thursday through to Saturday night it's a bit of a meat market with mostly 20-35 year olds. During the week they get a lot of corporate parties and an afterwork crowd. It's a really fun place.

I was only there once and it was for a work outing. It's very big and there were lots of pool tables, ping pong tables, and video games. The food was pretty good but we only had appetizers and beer!

I've been to both Jillian's and Jake Ivory's recently, on several occassions (I work nearby). Being in your age group, here's my take on things.

Jillian's
- Mix of ages, from 20's on up especially in the pool hall area. The floor with video games tends to attract a younger crowd. The bartenders mix good drinks and the food is not bad. They offer calzone, salads, chicken fingers, etc. One co-worker described it as "Chuck E Cheese for adults". :p It's a fun place.

Jack Ivory's
- I was there on a Friday night in the summer. That said, it was very crowded with young (20's) and drunk people. There were tables there but you couldn't sit down, given the crowd. It looked like a "rave" going on in there. We were already drunk when we got there so it didn't much matter and we joined in the fun and singing. I doubt I'd go back, unless I was drunk again.

Weekends
- Landsdown Street is all clubs and bars. Since many College kids and 20-somethings are in the area, this is their "hangout". It can get very crowded and wild down there some nights. If there's a baseball game the area is packed. Watch the Red Sox schedule and go down there on a weeknight if possible, unless you want to fight your way through the baseball crowd and half naked club babes.

Margie:

"Chuck E. Cheese's for kids" is EXACTLY what came to MY mind as I was looking at their web site!! :p

Thanks everyone, for the reviews and info. I think Jillian's looks like it might be fun for a couple of hours. I think DH would enjoy a game of pool, playing some "for fun" Blackjack (we don't gamble for real), and maybe a game of darts and some video bowling. Add a good drink and some appetizers, and I think it'd be worth to go check it our for ourselves. :teeth:
