Jill Duggar's wedding

I googled that and yes he did. Did you know he was Pistol Pete at Oklahoma State as was his dad?! I'm thinking he probably had a great time in college.

The not holding hands and side hug only thing to me is just weird. Found an awesome blog about a couple that lived this lifestyle and courted that way...very interesting turn of events for them.

I had read that Derick and his dad were both mascots for the same college. Here is something on it with a pic:

And, this (scroll down to see both Dillard names):

And that last line is why I have a problem with the Duggars. I have a problem with any belief system that basically forbids freethinking. If one of the children decided to go against the beliefs they would ultimately be forced to make a choice between being a part of their family or being true to themselves, which is just not okay in my opinion. I'm not a fan of conditional love when it comes to parents and children.

Absolutely agree with your thoughts on free thinking, and I too suspect it would not go well for any of the children who chose to pursue an education, a different style of courtship or many other possibilities -- even if they chose a medical career and stayed chaste until marriage and remained Christian in a different flavor. I think there would be quite a problem if one of the girls decided to wear pants -- even something as modest as mom jeans!

I have a feeling the longer the girls are married to men outside their community the more casual conservative they may become. I had a friend who grew up in similar restrictions to the Duggars and as soon as she got married the long shirts and skirts went in the trash. She still dresses modestly but not to the extreme any more. I feel like Jills husband isn't as controlling as Jim Bob and will give her some more freedoms.

The girls also have a stronger fashion sense than their mom. I love what they choose to wear - but cringe at Michelle's "stuck in the 80s" look.

Can you link the blog please?

Ben and Jessa - I go between really liking him and really not. They seem to be more fun than Derick/Jill but Ben is also just a big goofball. He has posted some pretty conservative stuff online that is way out of my way of thinking.

For those who think the Duggars aren't all bad, they follow the Gothard method and the Quiverful movement. Pretty scary if you ask me...

And as for Jana, it's widely reported that when a kid starts to act out they send them off to get reined back in. Read up on the ALERT program.

AND did anyone watch the show AFTER the big wedding? The singing family on the bus? Oh my..

I read online that TLC now stands for The Loser Channel. :rotfl::rotfl2:

I DVR'd the wedding and got about 3 minutes of the family on the bus. I said out loud (I was the only one home) "Oh H to the NO". And wondered how the one kid who was married whose wife joined their big happy bus family could conceive a child on a bus with his entire family on it too.

I think the one thing you have to remember is most of the conversations are scripted if not heavily prompted by the film crew. And add in editing, we as viewers perceive a ton of conversations/emphasis on the first kiss and giving away, not of the wedding, etc... when in reality (no pun) the crew is the one bringing it up!

there was an event (for a politician, maybe?) a few years ago, and Jim Bob was interviewed. He kept tripping over words and tried to do a retake, but it wasn't for the show. It was actually pretty funny. LOL

The beginning like I have to start in 2009?

The beginning like I have to start in 2009?

I'm not Pembo ... but to understand the Duggars, you have to go back a ways. It's complicated. It involves Jim Bob & Michelle and Bill Gothard, but included in that would be ATI, ILBP, the ALERT Academy, Journey to the Heart, and Jim Sammons' Financial Freedom. They started on TLC somewhere around 2005-ish? maybe sooner.

But all the answers are there. It's not a secret.

We're talking about the blog (not duggars)

I saw the singng bus family ! I was claustrophic just watching it.

Ben and Jessa's wedding is this Saturday.

They showed caterers a few times and the person that opened the door in the morning to the church was an Amish women. I am betting they just didn't want to show that part of the wedding.

I noticed that lady, but didn't read Amish from her dress. Just very religious with a small head covering. I kept looking to see if there were any other people with the head covering but didn't see any, so thought she was just a volunteer with the belief of covering her hair in respect

I am probably one of the few people that did not like Michelle's dress. It was such a formal dress, for such a casually dressed wedding. It was too heavy for a June wedding' plus purple, my dd thought it was grey, but my on my tv it looked purple. I have to find a mother of the bride dress by April and I am dreading every minute of it, knowing dresses that ugly are out there.

I didn't like it either. Looked like an artichoke to me! Loved the guys, liked the girls.

ETA- I really liked Jills dress and the bridesmaid dresses. However, I really did not like what Michelle wore at all. It just didn't fit with the rest of the wedding attire for a June wedding. I wonder if they dress and a really low neckline and she had it modified...but if so, went way overboard. It looked like she was wearing a turtle neck. The dress was just so bulky looking. Not a fresh spring look at all :(

I also did not like her dress. It did look like they had modified the neckline

Start with the tab called "Our Love Story"....you'll want to read the next part too. It's a really good and very interesting blog.

Thanks! I started in 2009 with the main blog but that wasn't what I was looking for. I'm on it now!

I think the bridesmaids should have had better shoes (not more expensive-I saw the shoe shopping episode). Should have been closed-toe or at least matching. One of them had on flip flops which I don't really think is appropriate.

There has been mention in the show about how each couple is setting up their own dating "rules". I'm sure Jim Bob and Michelle are giving a lot of advice behind the scenes and that chaperones are not a negotiable rule.

But it looks like things like kiss before marriage, hand holding, side hugs, etc are decisions made by each individual couple.

This is what I do not understand. If the couple has made these decisions for themselves, THEN WHY DO THEY NEED A CHAPERONE? If these are their values and beliefs, are they really so weak that they would toss it out the window if their younger sister wasn't there babysitting them? I find that part insulting. I was super creeped out by Jim Bob having to go up at the end of the wedding to be the one to "give them permission" to kiss. Like she is property. Did anyone else catch his slip when they asked who gives the bride to this man? He said "I DO! Oh, her mother and I..." Creepy!

"Cinder" Ella's Mom YES!!!! I agree with you!! Jim Bob is super creepy to me. The part where he had to be the one to tell them they could kiss was really creepy. And I caught when he said that he was giving the bride away and then quickly caught himself and said her mother and I. The whole thing is so weird. My daughter and I watch the show and I don't know why I watch it because all I do is comment!! Jim Bob is so strange. His laugh, his whole "thing". He is laughing all the way to the bank. I don't know if it is just an act or if he really is controlling his entire family. Somehow (and this is just MY opinion) I think there is much more to this than meets the eye. I keep thinking that someday a lot of stuff is going to come out about Jim Bob. And both my daughter and I agree that Michele must be on something. Her looks and how she talks is not normal. And Jessa! There's something up with her too. I loved how they caught her giving a very "jealous" look. Yes I know that the editing is done toward a certain story, but I think she's mad because she wasn't the first girl to marry. And her boyfriend, Ben. He certainly does not come off as being exactly smart. And he's so young. I hope Jana and Jinger get some sense and get far away. Just my 2 cents.

His obsession and fascination in the sex lives of his children is beyond creepy and disgusting.
