I have a question about Jiko- is it really loud in there? We stayed one night at the AKL last year and there was a large crowd waiting for seats, and it seemd very loud. The food looks great, but hubby and I like to actually talk to each other during out solo meals- usually we are a crowd of 7 + ..... should we look elsewhere?

Hi, me and my boyfriend had a meal there in the summer and it was fab, I didn't notice any noise it was a really lovely atmosphere. We were sat in a run of 2 seater tables so it was just couples either side of us, and we didn't find it loud at all! Enjoy it is a fab place to eat!

Jiko is quiet, Boma the buffet which is across the way is much louder. Maybe you were hearing the noise from Boma.

Be assured though it doesn't cross the barrier and make Jiko loud at all. Jiko is elegant and quite quiet.

We've always found Jiko to be quiet with a much more adult clientele than many of the other Disney signatures. However, the waiting area, which is shared with Boma, is horriblly chaotic. We have went to Jiko as a group of 8 adults and we've also been in smaller groups, including just my husband and myself. It's been great every time.

Nope you can hear just fine in Jiko.

The loud crowd is usually outside of Boma.

Thank you- we were excited to try it, noise was my only concern! It's a moot point now and I feel much better!

We were there last week and were seated in the "wine room". No noise whatsoever. The restaurant was beautiful as well. :thumbsup2

Do you think you can request that room?

I honestly don't know. I was pleasantly surprised when we ended up in there though! I even said to my husband "I bet people request this room!"
Give it a shot. It can't hurt to ask!. :thumbsup2

Though Jiko is quiet by Boma standards, there can be plenty of children there running around on any given night. Don't go expecting a quiet, candlelight atmosphere--you may be disappointed.

When DH and I were at Jiko several weeks ago....we definantly did not get a quiet table. We also were sat along the bench seat...a line to tables just for two. The table were really close together. The two gentlemen on the one saide of us were very subdued, but then they seat a couple in the other side of us. This couple were both doctors....believe me anyone around us knew they were both in the medical profession. They talked very loud and I learned more about geriatrics and OB/gyn....then any person would wish to know at a nice signature restaurant. We also did not like our waiter (Oscar) at all.

Even tho we were on the DxDDP we did not order dessert because of the server and the loud couple next to us! I told DH I wanted to leave and did not want dessert because if we had ordered...we would have had to pay a higher tip......and he just plain and simple, did not deserve it.

Oh well, we took off for DTD and Raglan Road for a nice chocolate martini, which smoothed my riffled feathers.;)

We've eaten at Jiko numerous times and have never had any issues with noise.

I dont think you will have any problems. Part of the noise you experienced is due to the fact that the entries for Jiko and Boma are right next to each other. They are both wonderful, popular restaurants so the waiting areas tend to be louder and more congested. Once in Jiko, I think you will find that the atmosphere is at par with what you would expect in a higher end restaurant....appropriate for dinner conversation-not very noisy The food is fabulous...if you like cheese, I would recommend starting with the African cheese plate if they still have it. It is FABULOUS.

Actually, we have found that when Jiko's is running a full house, it can get a bit loud, at least in our experience.

Sorry to butt in, but being a somewhat picky eater, will I be able to find food that I like there? Just made the reservation for our February trip as my bf wants to take my mom and I there. Will I be happy there? (Some of the spices scare me)

Thanks!

We ate at Jiko last week and found it to be reasonably quiet. Granted we ate at 8:45 on a Wednesday night.

And to the previous poster who was worried about being too picky, check out my dining review in my signature for pics.

I think you will be able to find something. The food is wonderful. The flavor profiles/spices really are nothing to be scared of...they're really good.

We've found it to be pretty quiet. I think weeknights may be more so than weekends.

We were fortunate enough to be seated in the wine room during our last trip as it was our anniversary. It was probably the best dining experience we've ever had. It was elegant without being pretentious.

I am an adventurous eater, but Jiko did scare me. The use of spices made me a little wary, but when I tried the food it was just so amazing. All of the spices that were used were meant to enhance and bring out the flavor of the food. For example, fillet mignon tends to be the least favorful cut of beef because it has the least amount of fat, but the way the prepare it at Jiko made it the best steak I've ever had in my life. It melted in my mouth!

My advice is to try it! I've head very few people say they did not enjoy it!
